That is very sad if true. The collapse at the end of last season was due to an injury to Kato. I would much rather be a regular 6-5, 5-6 team forever than be 0-11 and listed as the WORST.2 points

Turned the corner with the program!? Seriously? Seriously...he took a perennial 8+ win team, with 3-straight years in the FCS divisional playoffs; and made them a 3-win team. One more year of lackluster performance and he likely would have been gone. The excuse is always given that a coach is terrible in his first year because it's "still the other guy's players..." At Chattanooga the guys Arth inherited was a 9-4 team that lost in the divisional playoffs. He took that team and made them 3-8. Tom Arth was in no position, to be seen by ANYONE, as the person to "Elevate the Zips program to the next level". Us Arth critics are not "tough" we're simply spouting hard truths.2 points

@UAZipster0305 ?? For your observations. I don’t know why anyone wants to cut off discussion. I’m happy to have you and anyone in the conversation. Just because we see flaws doesn’t mean we’re not fans or that we’ve given up. I too believe in this team and that they will finish strong. Focus one game at a time. Go Zips!1 point

If we play Akron Soccer, we can get a result tonight. Bet those FL boys won't like playing in the colder weather.1 point

I don't know why you chose to make this personal and highlighted the one negative thing I shared. Please read it again. What I posted was a fair interpretation of my observations. Do you think Caleb Porter would have been satisfied with those long, aimless balls up the center when there was no pressure being applied on the ball just because we won? I don't. I also don't know what your level of experience is, but I've celebrated my love for the game as a coach, state licensed referee, and a very high level amateur player. I could have played for most other schools in the state, but chose to go to college for engineering, not soccer. Anyhow, I strongly disagree that the kind of deliberate surrender of possession I saw against VCU happens to the best teams at the highest levels. They certainly weren't part of the Akron program until this year. I believe Embick will get us back on track but to be satisfied with a fairly dominant (but far from flawless) win when we are 1-7 is lowering the bar. This is one of the best programs in the country. We need to be better, and we will be better.1 point

Daniel Strachan is the best player on the Zips right now. His moving to holding MF may be the change that reclaims the season. Last year, it was the moving of Abdi Mohamed to RB. Embick knows how to pull-off this kind of stuff.1 point

"PCCC@Ravenna" just doesn't have the same zing in the football thread as it does in the basketball thread.1 point

Duquesne's message board is talking about the players they're bringing in taking them to the NIT. Oh wait, this isn't the place to post about KD? I thought we were throwing all the crap drama into one thread... I do think it's acceptable to expect this team to go undefeated at home this season for the OOC portion of the schedule. Year 3 of Groce, with his guys here, and what looks to be some solid depth - get er done. Happy October! ?1 point

Maybe I want to do be optimistic and fawn over players. What difference does it make to the players, the university or anyone else and why does it matter to you so effing much? When did you join the thought police? Get a life or create your own site where you and your 3 buddies can bitch and moan all the time. Your posts are obnoxious, but of course that is probably your goal. I've been to every home basketball game and tournament game for the last 20 years and almost every football game. One thing I don't need from an anonymous blogger such as yourself is a reality check.1 point

I do respect what you are saying, but at this point people need to vent. The negative energy on this team does not come from this board. Far from it. It comes from whatever is going on in the coaches office. And we all appreciate your good work here.1 point

Respectfully I must disagree with you. TB took over a "team" that was a total disaster. As in NO WINS, last in the NCAA. So that first year was not his blame, iCoach was to blame. Arth took over a team that had won games and been to bowls in the past few years. Were they really good? NO BUT, at the end of last year, was there any indication that with TB we would have gone 0-12? NO The fact is that this guy is a horrible hire. We have been blown out in 5 games. Receivers are left wide open. That is coaching. Players are deserting the team, with no guarantee they will get a scholarship offer elsewhere. THAT is the coach. Didn't we win 4 games last year? That is NOT good. However, it is not even close to what we are now. This is NOT a rebuilding year, if so we would win 4 or 5 games based on what TB left us with. NOPE This is a coach that is NOT a D1 coach, and has a staff that is NOT a D1 staff. Probably part of the University Master Plan to save money by dropping football.1 point

If it is indeed true that - "You improve through criticism. You do not improve from sunshine and rainbows and apathy" then I'll offer the following candid thoughts - You have 3,870 posts on ZipsNation. I am still waiting for the first good one. You started off strong in 2012 with your avatar, and everything since then has been a banal, verbose waste of space. You offer a stunning combination of ignorance and self-importance. #Facts. Tough Love.1 point

What has he said that wasn't true though? Like it's okay to be negative...oh wait, it's only okay to be negative if it's against Terry Bowden when he was here... The melting of snowflakes on this forum...I mean buck up, what is there to be positive about with Akron Football, Soccer, Basketball (the main drivers on this forum) right now!? Why is there ALWAYS an ineptitude of leadership at UA!? Acceptance lends itself to apathy. Apathy leads to nothing changing. I'm sure as hell not going to stop being negative because I want something to change; and if you really care about something you've got to be the most critical of it.1 point

dre has some of the best posts here...better than the normal crap-show we have on this forum that's for sure. Oh...I'm probably one of the "few others" so you probably won't see this.1 point

Just read an article on the UMass-Akron game that called it "the bottom 25 game of the century." You have to keep your sense of humor in this situation.1 point

How can the worst team in the NCAA worry about burning a redshirt? The way this is going there is no future.1 point

Seems like a reasonably good hire. My only concerns are his age of 65 and that he's already held two other Chancellor/President positions. He won't be at UA for more than 5-7 years before retiring, which doesn't provide the long-term stable leadership that I was so desperately hoping for. Why has Dr. Miller made two nearly lateral moves late in his career? Here's to hoping the STEM and major graduate programs that were cut recently can be restored.1 point
