  1. Riak. Qualify that with they are both great guys and are doing their best on a high level team this year.

  2. The overreaction by some is asinine. No matter how bad our defense was compared to our standards, Toledo still had to make the shots and they did from everywhere on the floor at an above-50% clip. Not many teams, even P5 teams, can overcome that type of scoring, and we fought pretty damn hard the entire game. Anybody that has a basic understanding of basketball could see Toledo played out of their minds today. We got their best game (ever - in school history), took the L, and now we move on. There are some good takeaways from this game from the X's and I'm standpoint, but the biggest takeaway is this: we're at the top of the MAC; we're going to be getting everyone's best effort, and sometimes their best effort might be good enough to beat us. Onto Brick Building, OH.

  3. Despite the FUBAR situation with outdoor track and field, the coaches, staff and athletes look ready to defend their MAC titles and maybe get back to the NCAAs, if last night was an indication. Season started at home with a dual meet vs. Central Michigan, and both our men and women won their sides. Early, early, early...but Lucy Bryan and Matt Keim in pole vault both looked very fit and cleared nice bars in their efforts. Nuh Andu was business like in winning the men's high jump. Marc Migliozi and Andre Golum-Godbot had good showings in the mile and 3,000 meters. MAC defending champ in the 60 Hurdles Patrick Kimball had an efficient win. But two youngsters really stood out in the sprints. Jasmyn Allen, a sophomore rarely heard from last year, had an eye-popping 60 hurdles to win by almost a second, and then almost doubled a few events later in the 60 dash, settling for 2nd. Then freshman Demetrius Jackson had a great win over teammate Amir Willis in the 60, and doubled by winning the 200 later. Dual at Can't State next weekend will give us more clues.....

  4. Part of why Toledo was able to shoot such a high clip was they were able to get Sayles and Riak away from the basket. Both looked extremely exposed on the defensive end when they were forced to guard out on the perimeter. Reece isn't as flat footed as Riak or Sayles so I do believe he would have been able to do a better job on contesting shots when he got switched on a guard. He certainly couldn't have done worse than what Riak did on Marreon Williams.

  5. Willie looks like one of Uncle Drew's counterparts.

  6. Zips hopefully can use their defensive prowess to keep the RedHawks under 60. Good to have a team that lives and dies by defense instead of the 3 point shot. Zips going to be putting a lot of miles on the bus this week and then return home for Buffalo.

  7. I would LOVE to get toledo in the MAC tournament. They're Dead Meat. They'll never shoot 58% from 3 again. Akron has FAR superior talent. Next time we just won't over pursue on closeouts and/or maybe just switch to a zone. Winning really isn't "rocket" science if we see these dingbats again. Plus, Akron is a far superior university and city in every possible way. Go Zips!

  8. The bracket matrix I posted a week or so back has us at a 9 by the highest bracketologist and an average of a 12 seed. Before today

Many of you will remember Will Meyer from this epic game Ben Lundt- GK for Akron - 110 minutes - no goals allowed Will Meyer - GK for Louisville - 110 minutes - no goals allowed https://gozips.com/news/2017/12/1/mens-soccer-akron-punches-ticket-to-college-cup-edging-louisville-in-penalty-kicks-4-3.aspx
