What a fun exciting game, and topped off with a BIG W against the Flushes.
I got there during halftime from work, my son was able to see the whole game. I actually caught a first level parking spot and got home 45 minutes before he did. LOL.
So much energy, with the seeding on the line (they didn’t know BG lost lol), the rivalry, sitting in a section with mostly Flushes. This ranks as one of my favorite sporting events. It’ll help get the guys ready for the tournament.
This is going to be a fun, nerve wracking tournament. The first of two.
Briefly spoke with Groce after the game and he won me over.
My first time attending a game since the upgrades.
I am very impressed. Was a great atmosphere last-night.
Im definitely all in
**DISREGARD THE FOLLOWING INFO. THE SECTION NUMBERS AT THE ARENA HAVE CHANGED SINCE THE ARENA RENOVATION** Since we're conference champs, we will always be the higher seed/home team. According to the info I have from 2016-17 and previous years that means sections 126/127/C126/C127 for Thursday and all others I THINK. 107/108 would be across from our bench, but assigned to the lower seed in the second game. I've used this as a guide over the years to buy tickets near our section on my own at times. At one time the info was available on line, but in recent years you needed a password to access the tournament manual. It hasn't changed much in recent years. I notice the arena website doesn't have a color coded seating chart by cost of seat posted yet, if they're going to do so.
I think Zips fan block is in 107/108. On the Rocket Mortgage map for the MAC tournament the "Home" bench is in front of that section. Zips, god willing, would always be the home team. I went through Travel Zoo for my tickets. @clarkwgriswold can be found camping out in front of the Verizon in Macedonia waiting to get his. I prefer to pick out my own seats as opposed to the athletic dept doing it for me. i saw ticket range from $13 up to $42. $42 gets you in 108 or 106 and near the floor.
Bracket Matrix has us at the 2nd 13 seed. We're fans of whoever plays Yale, Liberty, Stephen F Austin, East Tennessee State and Vermont
Assuming we keep winning
Thanks Daniel. A true wordsmith
"I do think the coronavirus is a serious threat, but I feel like, you know, this is a big sporting event, you know, like, we gotta come out here to support our team," said University of Akron student, Daniel Schullek.
I don't see us attracting athletes like Xeyrius as true freshmen. At least not on a consistent basis. I think under Groce we'll always utilize transfers and juco to some degree. You almost have to if you want to be successful as a mid-major in todays college landscape.
My guess is Groce would prefer to bring in balanced recruiting classes as Freshman and let them grow up in the system. But I agree with the sentiment @Blue & Gold has touted and that is "Get old, stay old". So if for some reason a player doesn't work out and moves on, he will likely be replaced with someone who can step into that role and perform on schedule. Which would mean an occasional transfer.
Two different ways of getting to a successful conclusion.
I'm curious to see if Groce starts to develop more from freshmen as opposed to jucos and transfers now that he has things up and running. I think he had to go there to get the program up to speed and he sure did a great job of finding them. I just want good kids who win, I could give a $h!_+ their origin, but KD always stayed away from jucos with the exception of Evans.
Outside of Zeke what coveted recruit did Dambrot get? Did Big Dog even have an offer outside of Akron? If anything I'd say Groce is known more as the recruiter. Dambrot just had a nice plug and play system and found under the radar guys that fit it and developed them. Part of why Buffalo had our number in the tournament is they had more athletically gifted players. Groce has brought those same type of players to Akron.
I have no hard feelings towards the guy. I appreciate the 13 year run he provided us. Any animosity I've shown in this thread was more towards those fans who were more Dambrot fans than Zips fans. I'd love to see a season series between the two schools get established. Have it on a Saturday night and honor Dambrot's accomplishments prior to the game. I'm sure he'd be met with cheers.
