And this is why if I had to pick one or the other (not that there was ever a choice), I would have preferred to get the COVID issues out of the way in preseason/OOC compared to conference play. Its much more important than the chance to take Illinois to OT.

I was thinking about it today, and despite recent wins against some decent teams and a couple of bad ones, Akron hasn’t been playing very good basketball. And that concerns me a bit going into this game. I know the first matchup wasn’t even a contest, but they just beat Toledo a couple games ago and the road trips in this league are never easy. I would argue that the Zips have played one really good half of basketball since then where they’ve played to their potential—the first half at Kent. And Groce’s comments have kind of reflected that. I’m ready to see these guys get hot again and “flip the switch” to start playing like we all know they can. A positive in this observation? They’re winning when they don’t play very well, and that’s a trait that last year’s team developed as the year went on. The wins at Buffalo, vs. Ohio, vs. EMU, at WMU. That tells me that this team is really damn good. Of course, we all know that. But I found it interesting. Not long ago, when this team wasn’t playing great it was losing to EMU and NIU. Now it’s beating teams better than them while not playing all that much better. Just a thought. Go Zips!

You are correct - which is why I was discussing the Buffalo game as they would be a high ranked team that Akron and Toledo would still have to get through - and that could be the determining factor if the two are still tied at the end of the year. I just did it in a much more long winded way 🙂 Bobcats have already beaten the Bulls so they could own the tiebreaker against them and move up in the rankings (but they also still have a game against each other).

The schedule is posted. Looks like four game weekends (with a double header on Saturday) is the new standard on college baseball. That's going to be tough on the pitching staff, especially for (basically) a brand new program. Throw in a week day one-off against usually a local non-con opponent and off we go. That makes sense, no more trips to California and Texas, no non-conference overnight $tays. Maybe the virus brought about some common sense. Although I wanted to play Marshall again, our first win since returning My big question is will fans be allowed? Or just family? If fans stand along the fence or sit on the grassy knoll, will we be sent away? It's not an admission sport anyway. If not ZDN did a pretty good job of making the games available.

So according to the MAC web site these are the currently scheduled remaining number of games for each team. This is of course assuming that these all actually get played. This also depends on how much you trust the MAC web site since they currently have a final score listed for a non-existent CMU-WMU game on this coming Saturday. So anyway max number of games looks like 19 (several) , minimum number 14 (EMU, NIU). I don't know if I'm just attuned to these or not but I found another one. In an old episode of King of Queens, the character played by the recently deceased Jerry Stiller found a copy of the Akron Beacon Journal at a newsstand. Of course in the same episode they mentioned the genius of Kevin Spacey so maybe that one's not going to age all that well.
