  1. I haven't been on this board for 5 years with an old account, but I think it is time for the Zips to get the right man at the helm and get our program back and going. I won't get into what I do much, but I am a media member and I pride myself in knowing names of individuals that are likely to move in the coaching carousel. Besides that, I am an Akron fan first. One name that I am intrigued by is Matt Brock, special teams coordinator at Mississippi State and outside linebackers coach. I was once a special teams coach, and the fact that he coaches a position in addition to special teams is an absurd time commitment. He is one of the most respected names of coaches that I have heard of under 35 years old. He was the teams coordinator at Bowling Green a few years back and is familiar with the MAC and Akron from what I am told. He is also noted in many articles that sort of discuss what I am saying. Here is just one example. https://www.newsbreak.com/news/2355473370904/names-to-know-the-ultimate-cheat-sheet-for-the-2021-coaching-carousel

  3. As I sit here, a beleaguered, defeated Zips fan, once again feeling aggravated and deeply embarrassed, I present a common-sense list of schools we should NOT be scheduling at our program's present state. There will, naturally, be year-to-year exceptions to the schools heretofore listed, but this list can function as a simple rule-of-thumb that any normally-functioning adult will understand without explanation. P5 Programs to AVOID: ACC: Clemson Florida State Notre Dame Miami (FL) B1G: Ohio State Michigan Wisconsin Penn State Big 12: Baylor Oklahoma State Texas Oklahoma Pac-12: Oregon USC SEC: Alabama Auburn Florida Georgia LSU Texas A&M To our adult decision makers, this comprises only 20 (less than 30% of P5) schools we have no business scheduling right now. Not difficult. This leaves over 70% of P5 schools from which to choose: 11 ACC schools: Boston College Duke Georgia Tech Louisville North Carolina NC State Pittsburgh Syracuse Virginia Virginia Tech (borderline) Wake Forest 10 B1G schools: Illinois Indiana Iowa (borderline) Maryland Michigan State Minnesota Nebraska Northwestern Purdue Rutgers 10 Big 12 schools: BYU Cincinnati Houston Iowa State Kansas Kansas State TCU Texas Tech UCF West Virginia 10 Pac-12 schools: Arizona Arizona State California UCLA Colorado Oregon State Stanford Utah Washington Washington State 8 SEC schools: Arkansas Kentucky Ole Miss Mississippi State Missouri South Carolina Tennessee (borderline) Vanderbilt Idiots.

  4. I mean...it D-1 Sports is about "Exposure" and all that other bullshit that people blabber on about, isn't the schools on your "do not schedule" list actually the ones you'd want to play? We should schedule OSU as often as they'll allow us TBH. At the very least it gives more eyeballs within the state to Akron, and give the poor current students at Akron something to take pride in that OSU is playing their team?

  6. There's a need for a thread? I'd rather close my eyes, plug my ears, and pretend this game isn't happening. 34 days until Akron v Ohio State!!

  7. After writing this yesterday, I kept thinking more about Bob Stoops. His retirement isn't set in stone - he came back to coach a few games for the XFL Dallas Renegades before the league folded. He has brothers coaching at Kentucky and at Youngstown. His kids go to Oklahoma and wife is big in Mary Kay (based in TX), but this might not be such a long shot as it first seems. If I were an AD, it would at least be worth a phone call. XFL coaches were supposedly paid in the range of CFL and FBS coaches based on what I can find, so it probably in the 500k-750k range.

  8. Agree that TB lost interest and it seemed to me like he was merely collecting a pay check and doing the minimum. No doubt Arth is working harder. But, once again, football isn't a drain on the university. in a matter of 3 weeks, the program brought in 3.6 million. managing that stadium must cost a ton but they aren't going to abandon it or tear it down.

  9. We did under Coach Rembielek, but apparently the Zips are not with Coach Sabo.

  11. In addition to a better product, what if we just gave tickets to those people already paying for them? Meaning, since the taxpayers of Ohio already support MAC football because it can't support itself, why not let them attend the games they are already paying for? Let's confess that MAC football is a public works program that benefits the taxpayers and let them take advantage of it.
