  1. Take away the home opener games and the homecoming games, this is the most excited I've been for the actual football game in a while. We are due for a conference win at home in front of fans (something we haven't had since October 27, 2018) 😅

  3. It is sad because it is small time thinking. Below is my reasoning. First, if KY wants out, don't let the door hit you in the caboose. These contracts tend to have buyout clauses and if they want to exercise it, that was the agreement. Bye. Why is it sad? The official frames the situation as presented. When talking to a fan and especially one who owns the fan board, put a positive spin on the situation. Say you wish the game remained the same but you believe the athletic department will put together a game and game day experience that will be just as good for the athletes, students, alumni, fans and general community as it would for KY.....and then freaking do it. The idea that our destiny lies in the hands of P5 schools is one that I dislike the most. It's the small vision the MAC has for itself and it absolutely reject it out of hand. It's the idea that what KY fans may do that defines a successful day that I dislike. Our success isn't defined by KY flags and fan counts. It is defined by Akron using a football game to benefit the athletes, students, alumni, fans and general community that defines success. That can also be accomplished by playing any G5 school.

  4. I happen to agree, I despised it the first few months, but grew to like it being that all the teams were wearing it, and I like wearing what the team wears. With that said, I will give Guthrie the the benefit of the doubt in wanting to create a more streamlined and cohesive brand. He has been quoted in interviews wanting something to represent the brand that feels collegiate and not cartoonish--again, not really something I agree with, but okay I see his point. If you look at many of the biggest and most successful schools in the country, they have some kind of block lettering, iconic logo that is the first letter of the school. Fair enough. As much as I love the Z, it was better served as a secondary logo. The A-Roo, though now I unfortunately associate it with the helmets that went 1-11 x 3 instead of 2005, was the best of all worlds and it's a shame we ever went away from it. The most important question is...at what point/year do we see it as a throwback helmet? That is the day I officially will feel like an old man.

  5. Without getting into any debates over the logo, I will say, in my opinion, it is way too basic, simple and unsexy. I'll never buy a piece of Zips gear with that logo. Why anyone would create something so basic, focusing on an "A" which is common to about 100 universities (Alabama, Auburn, Albany, Arkansas, etc), is beyond me. When athletic directors build their resume they usually want to tout stats saying they "created a new branding that increased gear sales by XXX%". It won't happen with this "A". It's is a whiff. If you like the new logo, great. I have no desire to debate it's merits. I just think it is lame... unimaginative... and boring. I'll wait for the next AD in a few years and see what he/she has to offer. In the interim I'll just wash my "Z" and "Roo-A" logo stuff on the gentle cycle.

  6. Maybe a handful...I believe the course usually goes through campus. That said, Akron needs the marathon and any other people-drawing fun events they can muster.

  7. I imagine some marathoners might think the same thing about Zips football fans. 😉 One thing they both have in common is they need to FINISH.

  8. I was going to say something about marathoners being borderline mentally unstable and if a few get run over by a few Zips fans trying to attend a game, nobody would probably care. I won't though because that would be mean and I've tried to move beyond that kind of thinking.

  9. The Zips should be 3-1 right now. This is far from a crappy team. There isn't a team left on the schedule Akron can't beat. They just need to put it together.

  10. JD was a great guy. Never gets the credit he deserved from people around the University. He achieved actual greatness by actually winning something meaningful.
