  1. What we don't 100% know on Kent State was how much of their struggling was also because Burns was an awful game day coach. Maybe (and it's a stretch) they really weren't THAT comically bad last year and they could surprise people with a couple wins. Still agree with Akron blowing them out here, but I wouldn't be shocked if Kent was just "run of the mill bad" this year and not otherworldly bad.

  3. Sounds like the basketball event last night was much better attended than the football event. That also tells you something. I golfed with a couple of Akron football alums last week and asked them about their current relationship with the program and they both voiced frustration with the fact that the only contact they ever have from Akron football or related groups is when they want money. While basketball has nice events for its alums and draw their fans into the mix to further engage the fan base, football falls short. While we see regular clips of the basketball players volunteering at the Rotary camp and having fun at Wacky Wednesdays, we see nothing like that from football. I've also been told that there's a major donor with some serious NIL that's holding it until Morehead is gone. I hope that's not a growing trend.

  4. Since schools are now able to pay up to $20 million directly, the realistic solution would be to schedule a 2nd or even 3rd P4 every year. If OSU is paying $1.4 million, use 300k (or whatever) to cover travel expenses and invest the $1.1 million in NIL. If you don't have money to retain your players, you can't compete in the MAC. Others on here complain about playing a 2nd paycheck game, but I don't see another workable solution.

  7. I'll add one more note regarding Akron and NIL - A goal of the Zips between now and December is to reach $1,000,000 in NIL money. This would be spent to keep the best players in the fold and stem the "talent drain" we witness every season. I don't know how they'll get there considering where our NIL balance sheet stands today. Time will tell.
