  1. he wanted to play. there is nothing wrong with that. not everyone wants to wait 3 years before getting into a game. i'm sure he'll be happier too.
  2. my money would be on soccer getting it first. rifle is decent and close to breaking into the top ranks, but no where near close to actually winning it all. someone can shoot me for saying it, but i'm being realistic. i think we can beat navy this year and win both of our leagues, possibly make ncaa's but there is still another jump between the bottom team at ncaa's and who wins it all. we need to find some consistency among the team. we'll see.
  3. i'm not on the team so i don't speak for them, but i think a lot of it had to do with what they believed to be excessive physical training and not enough on the technical skills side. i know they run a ton. i've seen them do it. yeah you need to be fit i don't know why you need to be able to run 5 miles to play softball though. personally, i have no problems with the coach. she always seemed nice to me. but you also have to look at losing stancliff and the pitcher that went to osu (bodecker i believe). i also know there was a huge fight between a bunch of the parents and the coach after the last game of the season (was there). we'll see. i think some of this crap will get the team to play for each other and they can still find success.
  4. university of oregon... there's a match up i would love to see
  5. uh...yeah. the ticket office kinda dropped the ball on this. i went in a couple of weeks ago and asked when they were going on sale. they said they were waiting until sometime during the first week of school so that every student had an equal chance at buying them. so i spoke to them wednesday and asked if they had a date nailed down yet. it turns out they found out that they need to return all unsold tickets next wednesday and later checking my e-mail i saw that they went on sale that day. i bought 2 tickets today (me and my friend's) and they still had a hefty stack. they better open up ticket sales to everyone come tuesday. i don't care if the guy next to me isn't a student as long as he isn't a buckeye!
  6. did i miss something? what happened to sean hakes?
  7. And it could be the Rifle team that gets it! sure...
  8. not to put words in her mouth... but there's a real underlying tone to the piece basically saying "i don't like my new coach." being a friend of several softball players, i know the transition was pretty rough but i have a feeling that this year things will be much smoother and they will be better.
  9. with dorms that close EVERY person living there better be at the games. no excuses when it's just a walk across the parking lot.
  10. talked to the ticket office the other day. army tickets are on sale now, and ohio state tickets they haven't officially announced a date, but will probably be the first week of school to give all students a chance to be on campus to purchase tickets. student prices are $10 for army and $60 for ohio state. oh and harvey and lindsay are gone
  11. when i heard stefan ostergren was playing for the cascade surge i got really excited because not only was he going to be in my hometown playing, but i've had connections with that team in one way or another over the years and i know it's a good organization. this is from my home newspaper the statesman journal: source
  12. 1) this particular match was a national level match, so you have hundreds of kids shooting. there were 3 "flights" (we call them relays) each about as full as the other. they make the lines large to hold more shooters so they can allow more people the opportunity to shoot at a national match. 2) these air rifle shoot flat nosed pellets. they can be shot through other air guns, but as zipsrifle said, the kind we shoot are much higher quality than what you can buy down at dicks. i can also answer the backstop question. if you look at their targets you see that it's just a little box that shows one bull (individual target). there were 60 bulls on a roll and those boxes were designed to let the shooter scroll through their bulls to shoot without having to get up and go change it. also inside those boxes is a steel plate and that is what is preventing the pellets from going everywhere. the curtain was a tarp material and was there more to even out the background (as far as color goes) than to stop any stray pellets. that's what's so nice about air rifle shooting is that it can go anywhere and all you need is a pellet trap. if akron decides to give us the space for a new range that my coach is asking for, we could be hosting world cup matches very easily. and i'm talking about international matches!3) yes. air rifle will always be at 10m (33ft). for .22 we shoot 50 ft because we have to shoot indoors, but at an international level you would be shooting 50m outdoor. some high power matches go as far as 1000 yards.
  13. i was wondering when those would come out... i see myself in the documentary
  14. true but there is still a big difference between shooting smallbore or precision with minimal gear and sporter air rifle with no gear. yes it can improve your scores when you make the switch, but you still need to make the switch or you won't even be looked at by collegiate coaches. i know what you are saying zipsrifle because all shooters started out with next to nothing.
  15. they in the sporter category, which means they shoot simpler rifles without the fancy jackets and stuff. they wear street clothes and shoes. while i'm not trying to take anything away from their accomplishment, they'd need to switch over to precision classification to really get looked at (precision rifles are what we shoot in college).
  16. shotgun shooting is not ncaa, nor is pistol. both of those collegiate championships are governed by other shooting organizations. the pistol is run by the nra and shotgun is alcu (i believe). we just went over this in the classes yesterday (that are part of the championships).
  17. this won't be an annual thing because this particular match the nra has it bounce from west coast to east coast every other year to allow for people who might not have enough money to travel to this years event make the one the following year when it is closer to them. however, maybe a few years down the road newt can put in another bid. there have been talks for years about building us a new range, and the original stadium plans had us in there. if we could get the right dimensions (a 50m by 50ft range with an air range upstairs) we could easily be hosting other national matches, maybe even world cups quite regularly. i hope this match shows the administration that newt's not joking when he says that. yes this is great for recruiting not only because it shows off the facilities, but because it also shows that the university is pro-rifle team, and with the recent losses of programs across the country that kind of security is hard to come by.
  18. i want a horseshoe style stadium... put something in the endzones!
  19. first of all, don't you mean osu wins until the national title game? people focus too much on just two sports. look else where and you'll see akron beating osu (softball, soccer, rifle, track)
  20. i don't know how you can call gator supporters "little" when clearly they have established their dominance in both basketball and football with national titles (beating the buckeyes in the process). just because someone chooses to be a gator supporter when they play osu is just coincidence
  21. well as nice as it would be to have the stadium, it's pretty crappy to say sell or else we'll take it and leave you with no place to go. i can understand wanting to stay where is bar will get business, and frankly, it's nice to have these little shops and restaurants close to the neighborhood. i just wish akron was like more college campuses and had more of these businesses serving students.
