Long article. Maybe, just maybe the management at the Beacon is coming around to the Zips.
With the results from the games last night, if the Zips can win Saturday they would stay at least two games ahead of the bottomfeeders and get them closer to a first round home game.
Thanks. Don't care for either of them. Yes, Bob and I had a testy email exchange after he ripped the hiring of John Groce. He's a nasty piece of work that one. He doesn't have an original thought. People write him to complain about something and he calls a few people. Writes down some hearsay and they print it. Or he reads someone else's article, finds his next target, and lazily interprets what they wrote and makes it "opinion."
I agree. They, especially that nasty douchbag Bob Dyer, have no sense of bettering the community...only tearing it down. However, there is now local ownership which may change that perspective. One can hope.
Considering the polar vortex is hitting tonight, I'm relieved the Zips are at home and not slugging it out in DeKalb or Mount Pleasant. I'm taking the Huskies, Bulls, Rockets, and Eagles for the win tonight.
That's not a contribution. BTW one of the secretaries at my office was at the game. She said, "what's up with your center? He can't catch the ball." I explained that it's the passing. They are bounce passing the ball to him at his ankles. She was like....ohh..that makes sense.
Some good news: I was driving downtown yesterday and on the Beacon Tower they now have an electronic news feed...and one of the headlines they had up there was "Akron 67 Northern Illinois 65". Maybe the new owner gets it that Akron IS the local team...not PCCC or OSU.
I am an actual victim of the T-shirt cannon. I took one right to the face. And since I sit in the lower bowl, it was like a line drive. Fortunately, I didn't have eyeglasses on at that moment.
Those last 3 home games (to me as a fan) felt like MAC tourney games with all the anxiety, tension, directional schools, and last second three-pointers. Guys can use a rest I think.
Hard to win at NIU because there's no crowd. Hard to win at OU because crowd is too big. But Akrons crowd is in the middle and teams can't win at the JAR.
A must win before heading to Toledo. Week off hurt or help? Maybe good thing before two game road trip? Or will the Zips be rusty? IDK. I think some rest helps a defensive-minded team as opposed to a hot shooting team that just needs to keep rolling.
Akron #1 in defense. Last in offense. Ohio #11 in offense and #8 (behind Akron by 10 points) in defense. A definite on paper advantage.
Come February and tourney time, LCJ hopefully will stop shooting early in the shot clock while the Zips are nursing a lead.
*A complete sweep at home of the directional schools
Watching replay, Jackie Windon made good point that a couple of these passes to Deng were poor and too low. One bounced off Dengs shin and one bounce pass was at below the knee as well.
