very happy for Jackson and the program. Looks like a 6th seed and a date with Ball State. Winning those early games over the garbage teams paid off in the tiebreakers. I guess they could drop to 7 if Western beats Buffalo

Geez...CMU is bad. brick after brick.
-
they should hold on for a short (and i'm sure) meaningful trip to Cleveland even if they lose unless Buffalo, Miami, and Ohio all win.

There's a thread Hilltopper started which has a discount code. My understanding is that the cavs ticket holders can use their seats but most don't so when those open up that's the time to purchase.

Bad publicity for the entire city causes them to salivate. When u open the beacon website...not a front page pic of Kent's team or God help us Sincere Carry. Instead a fired basketball coach accused of something that we really don't know what it is. Who coached a program they barely covered.

it's paywalled. anyone have a summary? although, I can see from the headline this appears to be only an allegation that the ABJ stuck on front page.

1. Love the night game. Know EXACTLY where the Zips stand before tip off 2. With some help, NIU is going to have a monster fan base up there! Let's get there early Zips fans! 3. Relieved it's MIami and Groce's brother facing Toledo in first round as opposed to one of the horribles. Steele will put up a fight. 4. Everyone talking about a semi final re-match: STOP!!! One game at a time. Nothing is certain. 5. Miami played tough at Buffalo and in their last few games. Is Steele going to keep that massively out of shape Mirambeaux next year? 6. NIU blitzed EMU. 7. Toledo hasn't had a tough game in a long time. My $ is still on them.

Considering the Zips are locked in against NIU or Buffalo and no matter what will face a monumental task next week, I have no dread or expectations as they face their rivals on the Kent Car Strip. However, I truly want to see some Groce March Magic, which we got a preview of Tuesday, 2/28 start now.

I didn't realize NIU/EMU game was earlier today. And that should be the end of Emoni Bates's college career. Bates went 3 of 16 for 6 points. No words at this point. The #8 seed will be either Miami, CMU, or BG. Miami controls its destiny. Will they pull off an upset in Buffalo like in 2020. If Miami loses, they need Western to beat Central.

Article on Bates, I found on Kittens Attack. I think it bypasses the pay wall. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/02/sports/ncaabasketball/emoni-bates-nba-basketball.html?unlocked_article_code=FoXUwGW1mj3KRvKLqbiM7XKnch5ivVOkaZUMby82a50AlAUFNpx2unE2D_kztUVlhGHFxpI4fnYKDFDP1VNoo_R-kAXynRDBae-dD02gg8YVgRaLu_69B4fOhxGnKNJDoxnEu-2nnI05YUk3uILLflBJRYUBFfrnRGpwzwVfwWpdg0ICwrymGIGPxGDFcoYmwIdVlYUl1BVvSBKwkHp-_Z_IYGMztzqQsPvQmU8rFE90vO271N8o4Xi6RBJlay9d-hqBr51NKm0nSGjA7y6VdA6WK-hQNuTn38P7pyLR0Gl9ZejvYJHrBA71eym63rdrjaP05j1-cTZvm5imxI2Yjzfzlh6blSmwKUZ991ksUMywdQ&smid=url-share

God love ya.

The end of the YSU/Detroit Mercy game was similarly ugly! As @LoyalZIPwould say count our blessings we don't have the likes of Detrois's Antoine Davis and YSU's Dwayne Cohill on the floor every night. Davis selfishly threw up off balance shot after off balance shot in the final minutes. He missed the NCAA records by 4 points. I'm sure Dad can find a post season tournament for them so he can get his 4 points.

Big Game Tonight! Momentum heading into next week.

I can't figure out what was going on between these two guys. why was the first guy up in his face like that?
-
My mindset is: this is Toledo's year until I see someone else cutting down the nets.
-
when multiple teams have the same record they do a "round robin" between all of them. who had the best record of the three against the other two.

http://bball.notnothing.net/mac.php?sport=wbb. this also works for the women's bracket. clear as mud.
-
Zips will play either Buffalo or Northern Illinois.
-
They should make it to Cleveland, right? The women's draw at the bottom is even more of a cluster than the men's. Akron can be as high as 6 or as low as 9. They are very, very fortunate Ball State is playing Miami on Saturday. If Miami loses and Akron loses, Akron gets in...otherwise...I can't figure it out.
-
reminded me of this: if you click on the link, you can see the events that got 2 refs suspended. Ball State again..AND Eastern was at home.
-
Watched a replay of the last minute because Phelps said Groce will want to watch the tape and find out why that Ball State player was wide open for 3. The answer: As Ball State inbounded the ball, a Cardinal ran directly across the key and knocked Clarke to the ground. Simultaneously, another Cardinal was literally holding Tribble. This happened directly in front of "Lerch the ref" who waved off the contact Tribble received.
-
Santiago hasn't played since the Akron game.
-
Ha. that photo stood out to me as well. Emoni Bates would maybe last an afternoon at a Groce practice...if that.
-
Couldn't ask for a better final home game at the JAR. I watched replay and the technical got the Ball State lead down to 9 and Trendan's only 3 points were huge and took the lead down to 6. While he had a bad night, he made a huge basket. I think we were all correct in how this was a replay of the Toledo game. The differences were many, of course, but simply Ball State isn't as good a a team as Toledo and Akron could over take them. Helluva game by Ball State on the road. And despite the protests at Over the Pylon, I thought the ESPN guys gave the Cardinals plenty of credit.
