  1. Not only solid winnable games but also reasonable game times, not Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday games. Perhaps rather than scheduling these big paydays at the first of the season how about the MAC becomes the OOC week the SEC schedules near the end of their season? Then the fans aren't turned off by early blowouts and we can play Can't when both teams have reasonable records (like 0-0).
  2. Also the Blue Jackets and the Crew. Although I saw The Crew the other day and they appeared to be running in mud, they looked so slow. I moved out of the Akron area in 1982. I can say that I've been to Thistledown as many times as I've been to a Zips sporting event since. So that competes too.
  3. I was headed south on I-77 the other week, I always stop at the Goodwill between exits 35 and 36 in NC. It is just west of the race shops and tends to have a selection of NASCAR items that get donated when crew members switch teams. So when I was in there I found a 4XL Kansas City Chiefs shirt with MARCH and 59 on the back. Not being a 4XL guy I left it. So a week later coming back through I stopped again figuring I'd get it and find someone that could wear it. This second time through I couldn't find it. So the moral of the story is the time to buy an item is when you see it.
  4. Any chance you can get Darian Cotton? My all time favorite Cyclone,
  5. Great performances and congratulations to all Zips that competed in Oregon and all season long.
  6. ZipsVoice, thanks for the info. I know a couple of times we were the top non power 5 conference scorer.
  7. Wow great news! does anyone know what the Zips record is for points scored in an NCAA championship meet?
  8. I'm going to go slightly off topic here but SIUE coming over for soccer got me thinking. Their "normal" league for athletics is the OVC. They were playing soccer in the MVC and now are moving to the MAC. It seems pretty haphazard to me which schools play in other conferences for sports their league does not sanction. Would there be anything to gain if these three conferences (MAC, OVC, MVC) made an agreement regarding taking in members from one another for what are traditionally non-revenue sports? For example the MAC has 6 mens tennis teams (one being Binghampton) and the MVC has 5 (one being Stony Brook). It seems like going together would help scheduling, maybe travel, etc... I'm not sure if there is anything to gain but I would think it would be worth looking at. Any thoughts?
  9. Back in the 70's and 80's SIUE soccer benefited greatly from the big St Louis soccer scene. They will be a great addition. http://www.siuecougars.com/sports/m-soccer/2016-17/releases/20170602ekhbew
  10. I'm also planning on driving up from NC to see this game. I root for the Zips and the Hawkeyes so there is not doubt who I'll be rooting for. As we get closer I'll be needing some tailgating info from all you experts.
  11. Blew it ? Really? The very good players that they get one of every five years either go to St V or transfer to Massillon. Ellet generally wins more than they lose, and once in awhile they have a really good year. They are the "Iowa" of NE Ohio football and content with it. At some point you have to realize what your program is. And they have.
  12. It was under different circumstances and reasons but Fred Hoiberg lived off of transfers and JUCO's for years. He knew he wasn't going to get kids because of the glamorous location. At some point you have to know what you are.
  13. A young gentleman with a storied past looking for a place to land....... http://www.indianhillsathletics.com/roster/15/1/1802.php
  14. 1a. hire Joe Jakubick as full time shooting coach, that should also help with #3 above, and I agree with all the rest.
  15. That is a lot of D1 talent the past few years without an enormous amount of success.
  16. I was discussing the MAC being a one team NCAA league with an old Akron guy who now happens to live in Houston. His comment was the same about the Cougars as we all say about the ZIps. That is a need to upgrade their OOC schedule. He said they get one or two SEC games a year and hopefully pick up someone decent in a tournament but for the most part it sounds just like a weak Zips OOC schedule. So... how about picking up Houston home/home for future schedules since we are in the same boat? Not the P5 everyone wants but certainly better pick up than Hampton.
  17. Marshall has had enough chances, I do like WKU though. Northern Iowa also has a dome, brings a quality basketball program, wrestles in the MAC currently and is a lot closer than NDSU. I don't see what NDSU brings that UNI doesn't.
  18. If Northern Illinois would leave for the AAC what school would you like the MAC to go after? I would prefer Northern Iowa (sounds like they may be ready to jump up in FB) but I can't think of others I like.
  19. 40-23 Last year anyway VMI was able to score some points.
  20. If Connecticut joins the Big East (as rumored) would anyone be willing to take them in as a football member only? I would, but I'd want some big concessions from the Big East like 2 dozen mens basketball games, plus some scheduling in m/w soccer, volleyball, etc...
  21. If you get a chance in 2017 to go to the game at APP State take it! Awesome atmosphere, not so much tailgating but the shops and restaurants are packed. I you plan on going to the Daniel Boone Inn get there early.
  22. My first choice was not Tressel but Sandra Pianalto. I have no reason today to think otherwise and she goes right to the top of my list.
  23. I'd go with Steve Cockerham too. But for one play I'd say Dave Pruner. When he tackled the kick returner 3 yards out of bounds in the middle of the Temple bench and the brawl broke out, it was classic!
  24. Digging a little more into the MVC there are four schools that are affiliated with the MAC for either swimming and diving or wrestling. These are U of Evansville, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, and Southern Illinois. In looking at their mens BB schedules only one (Southern Illinois played Cant) scheduled a MAC school last year. Three of the four schools have good mens BB programs and could be resume builders for a winning MAC team. Would it be too much to ask (or demand) that if the MAC lets you in for non-revenue sports we want 1-2 mens BB games a year?
