  1. If a freaking San Diego St team can go 34-3 this year and be ranked top 5, I have every faith that the Zips can get there. Especially with a jr and sr year Zeke. Once he learns to finish on offense, Akron beats the NDs and Temples out there.
  2. These guys did a lot better against the Irish than I expected. We also got a glimpse of what this time could look like next year. Notre Dame had no answer for Zeke offensively. If he ever learns to finish those shots, he should and NEEDs to get 20+ points every game. Nobody in the MAC will stop him, and few major teams will be able to slow him down either. Him getting those kind of points will free up everybody else too. I loved the way Diggs took over and made things happen. Without his energy and points, this game could have turned ugly. If he cleans up his game, I really look forward to next year. Going to miss those seniors a lot. They are taking away a lot of talent and experience, but there is still a lot of talent left on the team and they got some good experience with this year's run. If this year's freshmen can build on their success and experience, then next year they should be right back here, with a much better seed. Here's hoping Coach D can get them ready, and put together a great schedule next year.
  3. I think you're right. It looks like if we win out, no matter what else happens, we'd have the #4 spot. But, that's gonna take a couple of huge road wins, and wins at home against two teams that have already beaten us this year. This team needs to win out, at least in the MAC schedule. Creighton is only relevant to our 20 win streak. Winning out not only locks up a good seed, but gives the team a real shot at the MAC season title. I expect Miami to drop a couple games near the end, which is the help we really need, so why not. Come on Zips!
  4. I don't care about seeding for the MAC tourney as they've proven seeding doesn't matter to actually winning it. I'd rather they be more concerned with at least playing their way into the NIT. It would be great to actually have something guaranteed going into the MAC tourney for once. I might die if they won the season -and- tournament championships in the same year.
  5. Nik got some very easy points in the paint tonight by backing down his man. Why didn't they keep going to that every possession until NIU stopped him? That would have opened up opportunities for other players... And the fouls tonight were way out of hand. Amazing the game ended as close as it did.
  6. Its not just that they throw up prayer threes so often, its that they never have anybody in position under the basket when those prayers go up. I could live with the 3s if it meant more offensive boards and easy put backs. But as it stands, the constant threes are just as bad as turnovers.
  7. I could have said the same thing about any WAC team a few years ago. Times change. You never know when the right pieces can fall together. We've finally hit rock bottom with this football team. Oh well. It may not get better this year, but it will get better. And hopefully for UA, it will happen sooner. That stadium is a huge cash cow for the University. You want a new basketball arena? A good first step is to pack the Info and get the Athletic Dept some money. A couple good seasons attendance wise could put a good down payment on that arena for the basketball team and even bigger stands for the soccer team.
  8. I've seen the commercial a few times. I've been trying to find it online, but with no luck. It does seem to strongly advertise Akron Soccer more than any other team and sport. Perhaps NCAA thinks that Akron is photogenic? Either way great exposure for the Zips.
  9. Seeing MAC schools get out of the bottom 10 is always comforting. I really want to see this conference return to BCS busters.
  10. This is one of the greatest things I have ever seen
  11. Worst team in the MAC? Give Eastern Michigan some credit. Its not easy to consistently be the worst team in the worst conference. Also don't forget Akron isn't the only MAC team with a loss to D1AA.
  12. The last thing we need is indecision at QB. I'd be all in favor of using Rogers more during the game, to make a couple plays here and there, so long as Nicely is the main QB (or vice versa).
  13. Why can't we create that great atmosphere and still charge $20? Who cares if 18-20k shows up. That's 20k having a great time at Akron and paying $20
  14. Rodriguez didn't lose to Appalachian State. Lloyd Carr did. The Lloyd Carr with about 5 Big Ten titles and a National Championship. And guess what. They fired his ass for that bullshit. We should follow suit. My bad, it was Toledo he lost to. Which is just about as bad.
  15. Are you guys serious? After 2 games? While we're at it, lets put in the back up QB, 'cause he has to be better than that crappy guy that's on the field. Michigan didn't even fire Rich Rodriguez after he lost to App St and had their worst season ever. And now that he has had some time to put in his system, Michigan is back. I'm not saying iCoach will do the same, but you have to at least give the guy time. He is putting in a new system with players that were recruited for an entirely different system.
  16. I think this hinges on which player you cut. If you cut the goalie I have to imagine much more scoring
  17. What would the possibility be of organizing some mass correspondence to the ASG? Sometimes the student gov can actually make a stronger impact on the university than anything else for these kinds of things. My guess, most of the upper level administrators are unaware of the big demand for some good jerseys.
  18. Interesting article. I actually don't believe that the super sized conferences will be any threat to the NCAA. To me, it's the colleges that get left out that are the biggest threat to the NCAA. What incentive will there be for the lower schools (IE the MAC, WAC, CUSA) to stay with the association when they know they are never going to make any money in it? Do they drop to a lower division? That has to make quite a number of schools that didn't quite make the new BCS field salty. It would probably never happen, but if the power conferences all go mega, I would love to see the lower tier D-1 schools combine with some of the up-and-coming lower division schools leave the NCAA and form their own association and create their own national championship. The NIT used to decide the basketball national championship now you have the field of 64Imean65Imean68... might point being you never know what might happen.
  19. Depending on the stands, they can generally be completed very quickly. There simply isn't much to them. That's why the Info is playable without being completed. The most time consuming work is interior detail. If they go the cheap aluminum rout, they could have everything completed for this season.
  20. I suppose anything is possible. But that seems pretty outlandish at this point. Big 10 presidents were pissed after they added Nebraska. They felt their academics were too weak. Sorry, but WVU doesn't bring the academics to the table. I didn't know the commissioner and AD's had that much authority to override the presidents...I would have thought it was the other way around. The presidents voted unanimously to approve Nebraska. The statement that they were pissed is a little dubious to me.
  21. Hmm Boise's move throws a wrench into my predictions. MWC is trying to make their conference more BCS worthy. Adding Boise and sniping a few decent schools from the former Big 12 will really strengthen their chances. WAC won't be picking anybody up. They have already stated that they are looking at several FCS members to add. I still would rather see Texas in the SEC than the PAC, but they have been making more and more hints that the PAC is their ideal conference. A&M on the other hand could be the deciding factor. They are still leaning towards the SEC. The Big Ten appears to have decided to stop its expansion with Nebraska. I saw on ESPN recently that they notified the Big 12 commissioner about the Nebraska move and also told him that they would not be taking Missouri nor any other Big 12 team. I think in the back of my mind I'm hoping that none of these conferences go 'mega' just yet. A few more years will give a school like Akron to make a few more adjustments yet in the hopes of getting absorbed into one of the bigger mergers. Right now, we don't have a chance.
  22. Actually both schools are about 300 miles closer to places like cincinnati, pitt, and west virginia than current member South Florida. For some of the more northerly members of the big east they are comparable and also provide better competition than south florida.
  23. I still don't see the conferences going super-sized yet. One important thing is standing in the way of that and that is the Big East. The mega-conferences won't work if the Big East doesn't break up. While it make make sense for most of football, the Big East is arguably the best basketball conference currently. If the Big East falls apart, a lot of schools will be homeless in what used to be a conference that could compete for the national title. With that in mind, what happens to Kansas and Kansas St will probably be the biggest sign of what will be to come. None of the remaining 'power' conferences want Kansas St which is 'tied at the hip' to Kansas. There is only one power conference in a position to take both, and that is the Big East. It isn't a major move for football, but for basketball that really puts a lot of power in the Big East. I see Texas going to the SEC over the PAC. Texas will fit in with those programs better. Football is just bigger in the south. And of course where Texas goes, so too will Texas A&M. The only real question mark left is Oklahoma. The PAC needs another school to balance out. Probably not the ideal spot for either the conference or OK but it will do until the next shake up happens. I don't think the PAC will invite OK St, and they will move to the Mountain West, which is making a real claim for a BCS deal. The rest of the former Big 12 will probably end up in CUSA. This is where I see the MAC being affected. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Marshall is the odd man out and ends up looking to the MAC again. They haven't done well since the move, and the MAC needs another team to balance Temple. And say what you want about Temple, they are committing to building a good program there, and will likely be MAC title contenders soon and it is always good to have a winning program in the conference. It would be great to see their basketball program here too, but the MAC needs major improvements in basketball before it can pull Temple away from the A-10. My wild card is Notre Dame. My guess is that they still play independent, and wait for the next big move before landing a conference. ACC 1. Clemson 2. Boston College 3. Florida State 4. Wake Forest 5. North Carolina 6. 24. I'd give my left leg to see the MAC drop its bottom feeders and pick up a few good schools that will be left in the dust. Realign the conference, and actually make a serious run at become a good conference. But that would take a commissioner with half a brain and university presidents with half a pair.
