  1. See basketball SOS discussion please. UA basketball is a winning program and has the luxury to worry about sos. But until the football program starts getting more W's than L's, I don't care who they play. Winning is still better than losing at this point.
  2. I think this debate is laughable. What it really comes down to: Winning = good Losing = bad Lots of wins = really good Lots of losses = really bad Doesn't really matter who provides the W's and L's.
  3. You know I always had a pack with my roommate that if we were still single by our senior year we would join the cheerleading team. On second thought though, this dance team idea might be a better idea (better odds for us :-p).
  4. I've been following Ron Paul since the 2008 primary. It is very sad that this country did not elect him then. Though he seems posed to make a strong run. If the C4L and YAL really set up the ground work now, Paul might actually be a front runner in 2012. He's the only GOP candidate that could really pull independents from Obama. His son Rand Paul is running for senate in Kentucky. I used to think all people in government were complete crooks. Dr. Ron Paul has cured my apathy.
  5. Who said they had to get matched against MAC West teams? So you're proposing a challenge where only the MAC East teams are involved? If we're doing a conference challenge, then somebody from the other conference will get stuck playing the crappy teams and i don't see them agreeing to that.Obviously the sarcasm got lost in the translation.
  6. Who said they had to get matched against MAC West teams?
  7. I honestly think the conference needs to step in here. The big conferences do. I know the Big Ten and the ACC are required to play several preseason matchups annually. The MAC needs to get some conference deals with the A-10, Horizon, and/or Con USA, preferably all three.
  8. Could we drop the political BS?
  9. It's just as stupid for the bowls as it is for Infocision stadium. The guy naming out stadium could have named it anything he wants, but decided to plug in his own company name. It's just not classy. Why can't they come up with a good name, then just let the sponsor plug away advertisements in the stadium/on air for free?I still think everybody is still going to know who the sponsor is for the Peach Bowl by the annoying level of ads anyway, without going all out and renaming the bowl to the Chic-Fil-A Bowl. I rarely go to Chic-Fil-A anyway, but their whoring out of the bowl name makes me want to go there even less during bowl season.
  10. I doubt the city will ever let the University close another major street like Exchange. The previous closings really angered a lot of people. But youami is probably right. It wouldn't be used much unless the University put in escalators.
  11. Well according the ABA (the group that accredits the program) the "old one" is awful. So it's a "must do" project. On a side note, and I know we've all mentioned it before, why does everyone in Akron hate the University so much? Not everyone in Akron hates UA but your point is well taken. Many do and I have observed that they tend to be people who are just unhappy with themselves; those who like to see themselves as elitists, anti-culture pseudo hippies and those who are just plain stupid, anti-education hicks that still make up a large portion of the Akron population. You see this last category make up a large portion of our sister university's host community to the east. This category is also made up of those who still think downtown should return to being what it once was in the 50s and 60s, which will never happen.Worse than those who hate UA are those who are indifferent to it. They only acknowledge the university when they want to exploit it to achieve an agenda that is political or self-serving. The mayor is one of these people and the leadership at the ABJ is made up of these people. They are very parochial Akron dinosaurs who like individual facilities or services of the university ( E.J. Thomas Hall, the new stadium) but beyond that make UA invisible. These are the people who separate UA's athletics from the university and who want UA to build a new arena downtown instead of on the campus where it belongs. And don't let them kid you. They hate that the new football stadium is on the campus and not downtown. They are also the group of people who make too big of a deal about the Polsky Building being a pseudo-university facility. At best they see UA only in pieces and parts and cherry pick the parts they like at the expense of the university as a whole. It is this group of indifferent parochials who keep The University of Akron from coming off to the region as a real and authentic institution of higher education. To them it's just the same old "Akron U".thought you were gonna make an entire post without complaining about a downtown arena! silly me.stop the personal attacks. they are getting old.So are your rants
  12. The only people who spend 45 minutes looking for a place to park are just lazy. I found a place every day within 5 minutes. Heck, I never have to even look, because there are lots open all day. And I arrive during peak hours too, between 10am and 2 pm. Everybody wants to get those precious spots in north deck so you drive around for 30-60 minutes instead of parking a little farther away and walking for 10.I do think the U needs to build a bridge of some sort over exchange. There is an ever increasing pedestrian traffic and it is coming into conflict with motorists. A simple bridge will solve a lot of problems. The parking deck is not the most appealing building on campus but it doesn't need to be. Nobody is going to be turned off of campus because they drove past a big parking deck on their campus visit. If they are, good riddance, they'd probably drop out anyway.
  13. If you delete 'Bobcat Attack' it's impossible to tell which team/fanbase in ohio you are talking about.
  14. I think you are all worrying too damn much about who we play OOC. The MAC right now is pretty weak. If we can start taking care of the Conference, those OOC games will start falling into place and the Admin can have some leverage about what nights to play..
  15. I've been asking this quite a while now, and nobody has ever given me an answer. Is there a single sport that Easter Michigan competes in nowadays?
  16. You know, if Akron was actually playing -somebody- then some of you guys might have real points. But Browns over Zips is a no-brainer. It doesn't matter how bad the Browns are, it is still a bigger event than Akron Vs OOC fodder. With the way the football team goes out of their way to schedule around the Suckeye's, how hard is it for the basketball team to schedule around NEO's darling (it doesn't matter how bad they play, the Browns are always going to be the darling of the area).
  17. I thought the goalie couldn't move before the ball was touched?
  18. I'm a little surprised CMU didn't get bid for Motor City Imeanpizza Bowl. Why wouldn't they go for the home town draw again? Seems to me like Marshall and OU would be a smaller market for them.Little Caesars Pizza BowlDecember 26th, Detroit MI, 5 pm, ESPNMarshall vs. OhioThis Bowl Could Be Great Because ... Marshall gets to go back to its old MAC days and pretend its the champion. Ohio gets to go back to Ford Field and pretend it won the MAC title against CMU. This is Marshall's first bowl game since joining Conference USA and just the second post-season game since 2002.This Bowl Could Suck Because ... Ohio plays tough, but it's not all that great. The Herd comes into the game limping after losing three of its last four and four of its last six. The Initial Knee-Jerk Reaction ... You have to really, really love bowl games to be pumped up for this. However, while neither team plays much offense, it should be a close, competitive battle between two teams that'll try.Scout.com is putting UCLA in. They don't think the Knights will beat Navy.GMAC BowlJanuary 6, Mobile AL 7 pm ESPNTroy vs. Central Michigan This Bowl Could Be Great Because ... two high-octane champions from non-BCS conferences should put on an amazing show. Levi Brown and Troy throw the ball as effectively as any non-BCS team outside of Houston, while Dan LeFevour will be close out his phenomenal career looking for his second bowl win. Expect lots of scoring, phenomenal quarterback play, and a game every bit as fun as any of the BCS matchups. This Bowl Could Suck Because ... this has been the worst of the bowl games by far over the last few seasons. In the last five bowls, the victors have won by a combined score of 282 to 75. Ball State didn't even show up last year in a 45-13 loss to Tulsa, while Bowling Green was a disaster in a 63-7 loss to the Golden Hurricane in the 2008 game. The Initial Knee-Jerk Reaction ... Troy's defense isn't like the Troy defenses of past years. Brown will bomb away for over 300 yards, but LeFevour should be spectacular in his final game. This should be the best GMAC Bowl since the classic 64-61 Marshall win over East Carolina in 2001.http://cfn.scout.com/2/557866.html
  19. We need those kind of uniforms in Akron.
  20. I would honestly love to see:1. Mark Stoops2. Ken O'Keefe3. Paul Winters4. Luke FickellStoops is a big name and a great football family. If we could land him, it would be huge and think we'd have some success. Plus it would be great to beat YSU out for him. O'keefe's got Iowa's offense rolling pretty well and he recruits in Ohio. I think the fact that he knows Ohio recruits so well should put him at the top of the pack. Paul Winters we all know. Be great to have him back if we can. And say what you want about tOSU, the Fickell has their defense going pretty well. I would love to see a defensive minded coach at Akron. Please, please, no Glenn Mason, Mark Synder, Jedd Fisch, or any other coach whose program sucks or sucked.
  21. If perhaps many years ago, Akron was in the same position it is in now, LK may make the move. But now? There is no reason for him to leave. He has dynasty there. I don't think you could convince somebody to leave an amazing success like that for the stress and uncertainty that is Akron Football. Especially since he is, IIRC, 59 years old and probably close to retirement. If I were him, I'd go out on top with the best football program in college football, than risk taking on an Akron team that may not turn into a success.
  22. I always figured it was Columbus's home town bar...
  23. We also have one of the lowest paid assistant coaches payroll as well. I think this is nearly as important as the HC spot, as its usually these guys that spend the most time with each respective unit and teach the most.
  24. Which is why it is great to see so many teams do well. The payouts aren't as much, but hey, its something. Too bad we can't be in that mix though.Scout.com has their projects. They just went the teams with the best record so far. Makes me really wonder who is going to get the shot if NUI and BG tie.Little Caesars Pizza BowlDecember 26th, Detroit MI, 5 pm, ESPNBig Ten No. 7 vs. MAC Projection: Notre Dame* vs. Central Michigan*No Big Ten team projected availableInternational BowlJanuary 2, Toronto, Canada, Noon, ESPN2Big East vs. MAC No. 4 or 5 Projection: Rutgers vs. OhioGMAC BowlJanuary 6, Mobile AL 7 pm ESPNACC vs. MAC Projection: Middle Tennessee* vs. Temple *No ACC team projected availableEagleBank BowlDecember 30th, Washington DC, 4:30 pm ESPNACC No. 8 vs. Army or C-USA Projection: Northern Illinois* vs. East Carolina*No ACC team projected availableThat Central/Notre Dame match they have seems to be most interesting. I'd love to see Central beat up on the BCS's darling. Rutgers and OU looks like a great game as well.I actually really hope that Can't State wins their last game, because they won't be going anywhere at 6-6 and that means our win was the main reason they didn't go bowling.
