  1. Right now we have 5 teams that are already bowl eligible-Central Michigan (9-2)Northern Illinois (7-4)Temple (9-2)Ohio (8-3)Bowling Green (6-5)There are also three teams on the bubbleCan't State (5-6)Western Michigan (5-6)Toledo (5-6)Can't State plays Buffalo, Western Michigan plays Ball U, and Toledo plays Bowling Green. If all three win, MAC gets 8 bowl eligible teams this year. Who do you think makes it and who do you think stays home?I don't think anybody has a chance, outside of the top four, but one of those other 6win teams might get lucky...MAC game of the week this week is definitely Temple at OU. Winner gets MAC East Crown and goes to play Central for the Championship.
  2. Do we get to watch Austin peay in the JAR again this year?
  3. I would love this matchup, mainly because it is probably the closest to home we'd be allowed to play. While I'd love make it to Buffalo, I won't hold my breath.EDIT: We have competition for everybody's fav naming rights:ziptrumpet87's linkWestern Kentucky: Or Gonzaga East. The Hilltoppers own the Sun Belt, nearly beat the Zags in the second round last season, and return four starters. Senior guard A.J. Slaughter looks like your standard real thing.
  4. The way I see it, we need about 500k to 600k for next year. 200k to buy out JD and 300k - 400k to get somebody better. Something tells me this isn't an astronomical figure, considering how much they spent on the stadium. They know who the big donors are now.
  5. I agree with CK.The $$$ coming in for a 2-7 football team is amazing. Pony up 300k or more and get a good coach that gets us winning records and bowl games, and suddenly we have a huge cash flow that soccer and basketball cannot get us, even with new facilities. The huge new cash flow then can go to building a stadium and arena which in turn will get us more and more money. It starts with the football program.
  6. And you knew we would get screwed too.
  7. So not to hijack another thread.7-0 Akron after Nicely fumbled and somebody recovered in the endzone. Still haven't released who got it.Devoe having fumbling problems since camp according to French. Maybe JD actually knows a thing or two.
  8. Schedules for which seasons - I assume you mean future years? How far out?It places upcoming games, and results, in your Google Calendar automatically if you subscribe. They only show this year's games, but I imagine they will be updated once next year's are released.
  9. I think it should be illegal honestly, but only in the interest in fairness. If the defender can't grab/touch the runner's mask, it should work the other way too. I think there are too many offensive advantages and this is one of them.
  10. That's funny because the Big East's Biggest team jumped from the MAC to "C-DOA" and is now one of the best teams in the country. Just because we aren't there now doesn't mean we cannot attain that level in the future. We have the right pieces of the puzzle, we just have to put them together. I think getting a coach with a great football mind will start getting the puzzle to take shape.

  12. If you have a Google account, you can now subscribe to sports schedules. I found Akron Football and Basketball. I couldn't find soccer, but maybe somebody else can...
  13. I really want to go to this game, but unfortunately I have prior engagements that day.
  14. Do we need a passport to get into the game? [/sarcasm]Would love to go, as I have a few friends in Buffalo, but it just won't happen this year.
  15. I rest my case.
  16. And taxes would be skyrocketing like tuition rates.I understand the bind this city is in. It seems to me like Akron's officials do a horrible job fighting to get state and national $$$. I don't want to delve into politics though. If there was some way the city could come up with the money, they should go all in for this project now. Bad economies need to be taken advantage of by builders. Now there are many construction workers without work who would be willing to work for less than usual. More people would be willing to work as event staff for less. Supplies are in smaller demand and they could find a supplier that needs to push for less. Property values have collapsed and the necessary land can be bought for less.If whatever backer waits until the economy, et al, recovers, all of those things above go up in price. I would be highly against this. The streets the U closed for the Landscape for learning really limited access to downtown, and the city really didn't take well to that. Closing another very high traffic street for "university space" would create a lot of furor that the University doesn't want to deal with.
  17. The vindictiveness on this forum never ceases to amaze me.
  18. I remember against the Central game my friend and I were looking for a bar to enjoy the game. OBC was closing, the Barley House is well...the Barely House, and so we thought we would head down the street and check out the new Brubakers. As soon as we came around the corner and saw the giant inflatable Brutus sitting outside, we immediately turned around. At least the Barely House makes and attempt. Guess I'm going to have to pony up and make the drive to the Tap House sometime.
  19. Red Bull!
  20. I don't think we should just think basketball on this one. There are no major inside facilities in this area. A 10k-12k arena would be great to have for other venues. I'm fine if we only fill 8,000 of those seats for basketball. Give that team time, and those extra seats will get sold too.
  21. 12kWe won't fill it consistently yet, at least not with the basketball program (other outside events, sure). BUT, if the program continues to grow at its current pace, it should be perfect. I see us averaging 8k, especially if KD is ever willing to get us a better OOC schedule. If after 5 years, and we're a consistent, ranked team, 10-12k will be no problem for this area. We are starving for a winner.Plus, they shouldn't just think about the basketball team. I think 12k gives enough room to host any event or concert comfortably. The Q closes off its upper bowl for low attendance events, and I don't think its cheesy at all. What the Wolstein Center does on the other hand is too much.
  22. I'm a big fan of an arena like the article mentions from Osports. Looking over their designs, it looks like there is a lot of area there to be used not only for arena space, but two convention or retail like areas. A 12k seat facility is a perfect fit for what this city needs. Convert the Mayflower to dorms, and you're looking at a great city block for campus life.It really gets me excited to think about going to an Akron football game, then heading down the street to catch the basketball team in one of the early season games, then hit all the bars right after. How about the First Energy "Power House" Arena and "King" James Court?Come on Lebron! Time to get this started for your home town!
  23. Homecoming should get student turnout up. The frats are going to want to come out and support the Court they nominated.Parties happen after. 18k
  24. Incredible stats for this team. Hope they can finish undefeated this year.
