  1. Nice to have a head coach who has been around the block and has so many connection for building his staff.
  2. College football fan forums never cease to amaze me. You got a great new coach, but are focused on a secondary logo. Take the weekend and enjoy the gift you just got.
  3. Congrats. Great to see Moorhead become your head coach.
  4. I asked a lot of those questions at first. Then I listened to some of his answers. Conclusion. This looks like a great fit. Good for Moorhead. Good for the Zips.
  5. Really enjoying this coming toether for Akron. When I first heard Moorhead's name, I said, "Yeah, right." High-paid OC for Oregon is not taking a big pay cut to come to Akron. But he sounds like he really wants it and pay is his third priority. What I'm enjoying most is watching your fans get optimistic again. I really hope this all works out. The ripping open his shirt to reveal an Akron t-shirt would be wonderful. He seems like he would be a great fit. He seems right for you and you for him.
  6. For comparison purposes, Maurice Linguist was making $680k at Michigan as DC and signed with Buffalo for $675k as HC. Frankly, I'm surprised he wasn't making more in that position at Michigan. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/2021/05/10/maurice-linguist-michigan-wolverines-buffalo-head-coach/5027836001/
  7. The continuing spiraling of head coach salaries makes it almost impossible for a school like Akron to get a good coach and even harder to keep a good coach. Until that bubble bursts, college football is in trouble. Why should any recruit come to a school with trust that his coach will still be there by the time he uses up his eligibility? The stats are definitely stacked against it.
  8. Good. Then I hope Notre Dame leaves Matt Campbell alone too.
  9. Never been a huge Herman fan. He just doesn't bring the personal and team discipline that I would like to see from a head coach. I think he is busy right now counting all the money he was paid so that Texas could hire Sarkesian.
  10. Even bigjim might like me after this one. Early in my marriage to Akron's finest, we were at one of her brother's homes. He has a dog named, you guessed it, Buckeye. Well, I taught him to answer to Buckwheat. The dog would be in the other room and I would call "Here, Buckwheat" and he would just come running and tail-wagging. The BIL hated it so I didn't do it often, but we all knew that I had a good one just waiting to be used.
  11. This is the most noteworthy Iowa/Ohio recruitment story. Ryan Day was here a few weeks ago to poach our best high school player. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/high-school/recruiting/2021/10/15/xavier-nwankpa-recruiting-commitment-date-birthday-iowa-football-notre-dame-ohio-state/8482455002/
  12. A rather standard bantor response would be something like this Iowa State fan coming to an Akron fan site is the ultimate evidence that there is nothing to do in Iowa! We get this one often when we travel so well for road games and bowl games. Again, "nothing to do in Iowa," might as well travel. It's not true, but it's funny. And we can handle it.
  13. It was a joke. If you have seen my posts, I probably take twice as many shots about Iowa as I do Ohio. I've spent 30 years taking a beating in the bantor category from my Ohio in-laws. Tom Herman left Iowa State's OC position to be a QB coach at Ohio State before becoming OC. Can you imagine the grief I took from BIL's who make the point that a position coach for OSU was an upgrade from being a coordinator at ISU. "Personally, I am glad you moved your wife out of NE Ohio. I do not want anyone in Ohio who would be stupid enough to be with you." This is a good one. Too bad that you actually meant it. If it was bantor, I would give you kudos. Since it was real, it is kinda sad. There are several people on the site who actually know me. They have welcomed me here for years. If they tell me to go, I would consider it. Your declarations, not so much.
  14. And it wasn't even close. No wind. He could have made it from 70! The ball may not have come down yet!
  15. Sorry. I missed the fine print about how only reasonable possibilities could be discussed here. In the case of Manning, there are other reasons that he might find compelling. People seem to find NE Ohio attractive. I don't get it, but there is plenty of evidence. Bottom line is that I think he should be on your list. In my own case, I found the best thing to come out of Akron, married her, and saved her from a life sentence in NE Ohio. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ™„
  16. Yeah, maybe. But Campbell talks so much about the young players who aren't even playing much. He makes it clear that he has a view to the future. He always talks about "building something" here. Once of his mantras is "outcomes aware, but process and purpose driven." He sometimes talks about enjoying practices more than the games. I don't think a blue blood job would allow that attitude. It is perfect for us.
  17. Iowa State has at least 3 Mt. Union guys: Mat Campbell, Tom Manning, and Matt Caponi. We have another guys who probably has the highest ceiling on our coaching staff (other than Campell). His name is Nate Scheelhaase. Even looks like Campbell. We are crossing our fingers not to lose him. Fortunately, we are able to pay enough to keep them from considering MAC jobs.
  18. Anybody interested in Iowa State's OC Tom Manning? He's got Mt. Union roots too.
  19. "MS" has multiple meanings: -Master of Science degree -Single or married woman -Multiple Sclerosis -MicroSoft -Mississippi Wrap them all together. Our friend has two female colleages with Multiple Sclerosis who have masters degrees and work for MicroSoft in Mississippi.
  20. It is really saying something for someone who has local interest and really cares about the program to be fired after 3 years in a program that has not had much success in a long time. Who pushed for the change? President? AD? Major donors?
  21. I was there. The BG coach was going ballistic. And just kept going and going and going. He even seemed to waste a timeout just to yell at the refs right before he was kicked out. I was on the Buffalo side, so I couldn't tell, but I heard that the UB coach was doing his share of yelling at the refs too.
  22. And no sacks of Buffalo's Vantrease. Thank you very much for treating my nephew so nicely. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Really wish I could have been there, but I had another big game to attend in Ames.
  23. On Saturday, I was at Kent State for the Buffalo game along with 3 BG grads who grew up in Akron. Lots of mixed feelings, mostly bad ones. Although I'm glad you guys have something to rally around.
  24. OK. Then change "Pro Football Hall of Fame" with "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." Seriously, the point is not the details, but the concept of making the entire experience a destination. You have some special things that you could leverage. Or you can just keep griping about bad attendance and blaming it on "not winning."
  25. Travelling to NE Ohio today. From what I'm being told, the Buffalo family/fans will be at Panini's in Kent, starting at 3pm on Saturday before their game at 7pm. It would be great to see some of you if you can stop by. I know some of you personally and have come to appreciate many other in your support for the Zips and analysis of things related to college football. It was on this site that I learned to say "Can't State!" May try to go to the Brecksville game tonight. In Ames, Iowa, we absolutely love Mike Rose! P.S. I've been making trips to see in-laws in Akron/Stow for more than 30 years, but this will only be the second time that I've done it alone. The other was for the Iowa State tailgate.
