  1. Thanks for giving me some more players to watch. P.S. No cheap shots on my nephew tomorrow. Promise?
  2. I've hit my limit of reactions to post, so I'm replying instead. This is extremely well said. At the core, we are fans, simply fans for our team.
  3. I have a hoodie with this on the front: "We aren't Cyclone fans because it's easy. We're Cyclone fans because its awesome." We could teach you quite a bit about how to maintain an active board even when your team sucks. For instance, we have not won a conference (or even division) title in 100 years! However, we took great pride a few years ago in the empirical proof that we are the most loyal fans in college football. They took total attendance divided by wins over a three year period. We were #1! That sort of loyalty helps make the current success even more enjoyable. [Waits for "there is nothing else to do in Iowa" jokes. iIs true, but not relevant. ]
  4. Who are the local kids playing in this game? Of course, Vantrease at QB for Buffalo. Who else? I want to make sure to pay attention to them.
  5. He was not the backup against Ohio! Kyle was one of the rare college players to start at QB and Punter in the same game. Interestingly, Ohio State's Tom Tupa, one of the few others to do so, may have been in attendance at the game because he son plays for Ohio! https://www.hustlebelt.com/2019/10/5/20899625/buffalo-bulls-football-kyle-vantrease-starting-quarterback-punter-club-sam-baugh-randall-cunningham If only they let him kick the extra points too!
  6. Really bummed not to be able to attend this game. It has been highlighted on my calendar since the schedules were announced. Unfortunately, my wife has a serious health condition that has to take priority. Interestingly, it was diagnosed two years ago right about the time of my take-over of a tailgate lot for the Iowa State game. Things are going well, but we just need to keep things going in the right direction. Under other personal circumstances, I would certainly be there! P.S. No inside info to share about the Buffalo QB situation ?, but stay tuned!
  7. That's why we moved to Iowa. So much more to do here! ? Seriously, we may not have much, but we have plenty!
  8. Many North Dakota State fans are eager to move from FCS. They just pound everyone and beat FBS teams.
  9. Interesting. I've heard about these "unpaid" positions. Does he really do anything? Or is he paying Clemson for keeping his resume up-to-date? He certainly has a lot of personal experience around big-time programs.
  10. Is Bowden still on staff in some capacity? Wonder what he is thinking. I doubt if he is just a "well I'm getting paid" guy. It has to hurt seeing up close what you were trying to build take so many steps back.
  11. I would love to see UNI in the MAC! Never mind the drubbing last Saturday by perennial FCS champion North Dakota State.
  12. Appreciate the concerns. Just got busy and spending a lot less time on fan sites. The CyHawk GameDay was pretty much a two-full-day experience for us hardcore tailgaters.
  13. How did these guys do in the Q&A with media? It is one thing to be a leader on the team because of position, seniority, etc., but quite another to be able to say the right things during the media sessions.
  14. This concern is about all that makes sense to me about keeping Terry around at all. If Akron was going to pay him no matter what, perhaps it made some sense to keep him around to do something you would otherwise have to pay someone else to do and/or generate some revenue you might not get otherwise.
  15. Of course, Akron has a race car. Glad to see Goodyear Eagles on there. Not Hoosier Tires.
  16. Hmmm. I would be very interested in seeing Northern Iowa join the MAC.
  17. There are always "reports" about dropping down. Are these credible reports? That would be a huge move.
  18. Of course. And it was silly to think that he was doing anything else even while he was still there. That's my point. You fire someone and then expect them to be a great team-member! Seemed crazy from day 1.
  19. I was skeptical when it was announced about Terry sticking around Akron. Does this latest news justify my skepticism? This seems to be all about what is good for Terry, not for Akron.
  20. "Always the best in town!"
  21. OK, just checking. Personally, I like staying in the midst of the opposing team's fan base. It makes for a lot of interesting conversations, especially when there is Big 10 arrogance involved, as there is sure to be in this case.
  22. What did it cost to get these games? Hope they were at bargain prices.
  23. Bryant? Deep in the recruiting hotbed of Rhode Island!
  24. Uh, Bloomington is an hour away . . . and the hotels are not all that much better. Maybe if you are set on something like a Doubletree. I see a Country Inn in Champaign for $85 on Orbitz (Fri to Sun). Bloomington is home for Illinois State U, not the U of Illinois.
  25. I've never been there for a game, but have attended a few events over the years. Perhaps the most helpful (if not obvious) thing I would say is that The University of Illinois is in Champaign, downstate and nowhere near Chicago. The population of the "metro" is only 200,000. This means that you should book hotels early because they don't have the inventory like Chicago (for which Northwestern that can host a home game and hardly make a dent on the local hotel availability). Fortunately, they have little hope for their football team, so that should keep after-market ticket prices low.
