UT must have 10,000 season ticket holders as there was no more than 1,500 in the stands for Akron.

Moorhead’s Akron Coaching Staff 2022
Zipped Up replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
1) They are not going to get rid of 20 “scholarship” players after spring ball. There would be no way to replace those kind of numbers at that time of the year. Maybe in the months leading up to spring ball, there will be that kind of turnover, but it will most likely be weighted more to the walk-ons and those scholarship players who are not a fit and want to make a move so they can explore other possibilities, even at lower levels in time for next year. End of semester is too late. 2) Nobody on the Akron staff will be assisting players to find other spots. 3) There is not a parent on the team that believes ( or would honestly admit so) that their kid wasn’t deserving of a D1 scholarship. In fact, most HS parents I’ve been around believe their kid is D1 caliber, even if he’s not starting in HS😂. Whoever suggested that is clueless. -
You can NOT issue partial scholarships in FBS.

There is less than ZERO chance that Quinn Ewers would ever come to any G5 school, let alone Akron. He wouldn’t know Joe Moorhead if he came up and bit him. Ewers is a complete hype product of 247 sports . He was completely outplayed and had his ass kicked by Cade Klubnik in the Texas championships last year. Watch the video available of the game without determining which QB is whom and tell me who is the better QB. The media has blown so much smoke up this kids ass, I wouldn’t be surprised he becomes Tate Martell 2.0. And BTW, for all those thinking a freshmen QB is following Moorhead, no way. No Oregon QB is following the coach to Akron. The highly recruited freshmen will take over next year for Brown who sucked, yet Moorhead played. The others are no more proven than what we have at Akron, and even if there was a question, the type of kid who goes to Oregon is easily swayed by all the Nike BS uniforms and their multi hundred million dollar locker room and facilities. Akron has nice MAC facilities but it’s an outhouse compared to Oregon. Give me the kids who wanted to come to Akron originally.

Really? What’s your understanding based on? Unless you saw Marousek in one series on Saturday, most people haven’t seen either of them play. I would have expected both to leave if Arth and both Irons/Gibson stayed but now given Arth’s firing, Kato’s finish and Zach’s probable transfer, I would think they wait to meet with new coach, see if there is a fit, who might transfer in and then make decision that’s right for them. Their opportunities to play D1 are now exponentially better at Akron, than entering the Portal. There have even 12 QBs enter the Portal since yesterday. It’s a losing proposition for 90% of the kids that enter and think they are just going to move to another D1 school on scholarship.
-
Exactly. He wasn’t happy here all year. Believe he was leaving even if Arth wasn’t fired. He didn’t play Saturday because he wanted to preserve his health and his stats from his 2.50 good games this year.

Miami went for two in the first OT. There is a great screen shot of the two point conversion try where the Kent CB jumped the route to knock down pass, but right in the Miami QBs line of vision, the TE is wide open on goal line. That’s how close Kent was from sitting at home today at 6-6 and being left out of bowls, (and they would’ve like Miami will due to more 6-6 teams than bowl spots). Instead we have to read about how great Lewis is from John Telich and Terry Pluto. Yes, he has improved their fortunes, but they still have no defense and the recent success comes primarily from his move of desperation two years ago to finally play Crum. Minus that, they’re probably sub .500 and still the same Kent. The guy who should be out along with Arth is Martin at Miami. Total mediocrity for 8 years at the historically best program in the MAC. Their administration won’t pay him a $1.25 million payout so they’re stuck. Unlike most of ZN.o, I am not yet a fan of Guthrie, but I will say I found it refreshing that he didn’t let Arth’s payoff paralyze the need to make a change. Arth’s biggest failure was not the lack of talent or choice of local character kids (in which there were failures on both counts there) but his choice of defensive assistant’s and his relegation of OC duties to Gasser. He was a cancer to most of the players/coaches and terrible in his personnel evaluations. Here is hoping the new coach brings in experienced FBS assistants.

I didn’t misinterpret anything, I agreed with his post entirely. The only thing I disagree with your post is your assessment of Irons.
-
True, fact, subjectively true, objectively true. Irons is not an FBS QB, but 3 weeks ago many on this forum thought he was the ONLY talent on the team.
-
Ronan Chambers went to the locker room late in the 3rd quarter after an injury.

So Tom Arth goes to a JUCO and provides Dollard with an FBS college scholarship and the kid earns a starting role. When he gets arrested the first time, does Arth kick him off the team? No, he lets him remain on the team while he works his way back through the University’s disciplinary protocols. All the while Arth praises Dollard for doing the right things so he can return and petitions the disciplinary board for his return. After 8 months in limbo and a semester plus summer session work in the classroom, Dollard returns for one day of practice and goes down to Kent and fucks up again. Finally, Arth kicks him off the team right? Wrong, most likely he would have kept him but GUTHRIE dismissed him. And this is Arth’s failure to guide him down the right path? I am in favor of removing Arth or any coach based on his won-loss record but his only failure with Dollard was not his “interaction” with the kid (re: support at every turn), but not having the balls to kick him off the team instead of the AD! IMO, the next hire will be a minority, I just hope it’s based on the individual’s coaching success ie. a David Shaw or Mel Tucker and not the belief that only a black coach can guide at risk kids down the right path.

Based on the scrimmages in August and who took backup reps for Miami when Kato and DJ were still hurt, I don’t think Jankowski is 3.
-
I have no idea what his XFL salary was but he didn’t take it for the money. He would only come to Akron because he needs money. He doesn’t.
-
Depending on the new hire, I can see 3 of the 4 QBs leaving, but two for sure. One of the two true freshmen (eligibility wise) might stay if DJ or Zach leave. Bubba is probably 50/50. Would suck for him to have to start again under new coach but also probably wants to go out on a competitive team, particularly if he can graduate after this semester.
-
Bob Stoops has more change laying around in his sofa then Akron could pay him and even if he wants to coach again, he’s not coming here, particularly for a short term.

I get that he is a cheerleader, read my first sentence. The post was meant to second the overall notion that the show is a waste of time if there isn’t even a smidgen of honest analysis. I’m not advocating that any player be criticized for a poor performance either. But if there is nothing good to say, then don’t say it. I think he has that level of input. Regardless, I agree, Joe Dunn isn’t Mike Wallace ….nor the issue at hand.
-
I get that it’s a TV show in which you are playing to the folks who have an interest in the Zips, but most of the people that watch the show also watch the game. So don’t tell me it’s raining while you’re pissing down my leg. His appraisal of his QB’s performance that included 5 fumbles, an INT and 4 turnovers while passing for less than 100 yards ranged from at worst; “WE” have to do a better job of taking care of the ball” to at best; “yeah he really has the ability to make things happen with his legs” And Joe Dunn should retire after his effusive praise of the same performance. What the hell game were you watching? May as well have given him offensive player of the game.

I know I’m in the minority but I do not believe the O-Line is as bad as most on here feel it is. The change in coaches just prior to the season was not optimal in its timing, considering coaches differences in technique etc. There have been multiple changes in personnel, so guys are still learning and growing into their positions, particularly the left side from tackle to center. I believe they’ve shown the ability to run block fairly effectively (certainly compared to 2019), and with inexperienced freshmen backs, one a walk-on. Pass protection undoubtedly needs to be better, but many of the sacks can be put on the staff’s lack of scheming to compensate for Iron’s deficiencies in the pocket. He is not a pocket passer and does not have the feel to step up into it to avoid the pressure from the edge. At least half those 11 sacks would have been avoided had he stepped up and released it quicker. His tendency is to scramble backwards or try and get wide. His limited success has come when the plays were controlled rollouts, throwing quick outs or balls in the flat. The reliance on free lancing and scrambling broken plays isn’t sustainable at the FBS level. So I disagree Gibson was pulled due to the overall poor play of the offense. He was pulled because the HC and OC clearly believe Irons is the guy. They seem to love his ability to make broken plays but are too forgiving relative to his lack of other QB skills. Arth’s discussion (on Zips Live) about Saturday’s performance was a rationalization and justification, lacking any honest criticism. There was nothing I could discern that would indicate anyone but DJ will start the rest of the way. With that being said, if Guthrie doesn’t pull the plug on Arth, then I think DJ is the only returning QB next year.
-
Gibson was not hurt. He was pulled after his second series, I'm assuming, because they hadn't moved it (other than one first down on opening drive). Listening to Arth during the week and trying to interpret his particular coach speak (through the "you knows"), it seemed like the game plan was to use both Gibson and Irons, a strategy that has worked so well over the years at so many levels by so many teams. (Facetious voice) Or as the old saying goes, if you have 2 QB's, you have none. You are absolutely correct that Gibson will be looking at the Transfer Portal, just watch his body language on the sidelines, especially after he was pulled last Saturday. In addition, Arth has two other freshmen QBs who had multiple FBS offers who could have been given time in the 4th quarter Saturday for no other reason than to keep them engaged for next year. Depending on how the rest of the season plays out, I predict a minimum of two of the four returning scholarship QBs will enter the portal and more likely three. I see Irons most likely staying, but even that is not assured if and hopefully when this staff is replaced.

Again, every picture tells a story. Whoever is in charge of the Twitter account needs to figure out a better way to announce the next game than with pictures like that, although I realize they have little to work with.
-
The picture tells a story. 5 fumbles from a right handed QB. That kind of play yesterday is not going to cut it vs. any FBS competition, regardless of the offensive line struggles. Full blame to the offensive coaches.

MEMO To: Rowdy & Loyal Zip From: All the No Talent players on the team (except for DJ) Thanks for the💕. Enjoy the week.

Best damn post all year.
