Even so, the fact that this game is so close at halftime is scary. I was willing to dismiss the Syracuse loss. I don't know how to explain this one. It might be a long season... A: We are a very young, inexperienced d1a team. They are a quality, developed d1aa team that has the "ability" to beat us..... no surprise here although i'd be dissapointed to lose to them. Side bar: I wouldn't care if ICoach treated this whole season like an NFL pre-season if it meant developing a quality team for years to come Just my Opinion 31-17 Akron

If not we'll move on (again) and i will still root for my school, happy or not. Look Marshall has NEVER beaten WV. WV dosn't even want to play in Huntington, and they lost a hartbreaker last night. My biggest ? was whether we took a step forward (we really sucked lastyr) a step sideways (nothing changed) or if we took a step forward (ala played a lot of freshman/soph to be better in 2-3)? Anyone have anything to add to the above comments? gp1?

All well and good but......... bullsh*t! Yes i too understand what you are saying i just think your logic is bunk.... Why is there mention of the regions atributes? A: Because it has long been held against us but is now an attribute! You assume that just because a school has BCS status they have the "resources" to compete... That belies the fact that schools like Washington St have languished for years. It pays no heed to the fears of Iowa St, Baylor and the like that they will get left behind in the shuffel and lose their "bcs" status. How will they compete then? Probably about as well as they do now. I assume you enjoyed our victories over NCState and Syracuse? Do you remember the 3-2 halftime score in Columbus? How about fellow MACers Toledo over Penn State and Michigan and NIU over Alabama? That's why we play the games. If the odd's are stacked against us then the victory is that much sweeter! Last time i checked NIU doesn't have a MAC chmpionship yet, should they give up too? Play to the strengths of soccer and mbb? First i don't think football has dragged our futbol program down, they seem to be doing fine. And if mbb was a strength we would have used it to parlay a bcs invite ala UConn.... Finally, how much attention do you actually give to the fcs/d1aa? Outside of the occasional update from Y-town do you really know more about the So-Con or MAAC? Do you really treat their football "playoffs" like March Madness or do you just watch / catch highlights from the last round or two? Finally, what was the purpose of thread and its' timing?? Seriously, did you honestly wait the entire summer slow season to play Debbie Downer the week before Syracuse arrives on campus and iCoach tkaes the field for the first time? Ahhh GP1.... that's what i love about you.... You're always the optimist! Honestly though you've been on here as long as i have and probably remember the days where the only coverage we got was a blurb on page 6 of the beacon sports section mentioning last weekends score and the season schedule on an Acme bag. The school, program, facilities, Rowdies, and yes the NATION have grown.... A LOT in the last Ten years. Used to be the NATION was the ONLY source of information on Zips athletics.... Now its the only "quality" source.... most of the time Take it from someone who has watched this from a far. I left Akron in 95' just before things got going again. I've watched everything steadily improve and gained perspective from living near other d1a programs across the country. Believe me their crap smells too Yet last weekend i was in town and grabbed a Gyro and some jojo's on exchange when i got in, and cruised Main on my way out. Believe it or not there were actually CARS on exhange and all along Main. Following night i stopped at the Lockview to grab a Lambic, Dowtown was packed. Concert at Lock 3, Fireworks for the Aeros, and the Barley House was rocking. It was a GREAT atmosphere and the city was ALive! Sad the Aeros are out of town this weekend but i'm sure Main will represent Akron just fine for the Purported 1,000's of Syracuse fans coming down for the game. Hell that might be more than everybody at the VTech game at the Bowl. We've got the Zoo, Northside, Don Drumm and the Valley to accentuate the city and school. Yet what hasn't changed is the ol NEOhio, economy sucks, the grass is greener mentality. It needs to go! You wanna remember what it was like, take a ride through Downtown Youngstown. They didn't keep their research like Akron did and they are truely hitting bottom! But you're right, nothing ever happens in Akron, we clearly haven't done anything and now is the time to give up and join Youngstown in the FCS! Sorry Capn' the Nation will have to go too
