I've never commented here "politically", but it amazes me how Akron coaching parallels our political landscape! Think about it. Our nations fortunes were sliding before the last presidential election, and now the american populace can't decide who's at fault (following mostly party lines). Those who liked Bush, are not impressed by Obama and feel that he has "rubbed them the wrong way" and can't lead us to better economic times. While those opposed to Bush feel Obama was given a rough situation, and needs to be given more time to turn things around! I'm sure there's a masters thesis in here somewhere DISCLAIMER: Please do not use my musings to turn this thread into a political debate! I'm merely stating a generic observation and enjoy Zipsnation as a source for Zips Sports.... nothing else! thx.

Let me toss in a few quick and several big fixes for the jar. Few Quickies - Follow Duke and put student bleacher seats (plastic lumber molded to your posterior) behind the team benches. - Chairbacks (reserved) around the rest of the lower bowl and replace gym doors on corners with 8' wide tunnels ramped down from appx 3rd row.. - Move all upper level seating forward eliminating track, thus moving all traffic under seating or to hallways and allowing several more rows if they fit under the roof. (Think WitchitaSt) You could even leave/lower the railing to divide upper/lower bowls (ala Duke)!! - Make atleast all non-endzone upper level seating chairbacks. Several bigs - remove upstairs lounge and replace with atrium, escalators and additional elevators if needed/required! - Replace upper level pullouts with permanent seating, creating more concession and restroom facilities and a new concourse! - HUGE - this one will cost ya! Rework the supports for the roof and remove the corner stairwell towers Stairs remain as part of new upper level concourse, seating added to complete upper bowl! You end up with a great/tight venue that is highly functional with additional seating! could someone make this happen on photoshop???

LATE REVIEW Sorry, been on the road since the game, but i did attend so i'll add some insight. Quotes of the Game! Zip fan during warm ups - "Wow, the refs look really old" Substitution ref to Porter - "Coach please...... were on TV" Jersey's.... Well played PSU, after the game it made me laugh, and this is college soccer! I saw some jerseys being thrown back after the match, so i am hoping those were all of the "stolen" ones. Definite props to the students though! they knew their smack . They had no problem mocking Zippy by name, and knew which Jerseys to steal First goal.... Oh yeah, Hertzog was offsides, but you play to the whistle! Akron's response..... that goal really po'ed the zips who promptly scored with some great footwork and took the opportunity to remind the student section to shut it I don't think many teams that come into PennSt have the swagger or talent to do that and back it up. This really riled the students, and the zips fed off that energy The rest of regulation.... After Hertzogs goal Valentin took a little revenge in the form of a clip in front of the student section and they never let him forget it. From yelling, jeering and the classic left right left right... left..... right... you knew when he was about to handle the ball! Hertzog was also a defensive BEAST! He has incredible endurance and challenged every backfield possession! He alone, kept PennSt in the game for most of the match by disrupting our rhythm and allowing the defense to set up! While we dominated possession time, the lions did a great job of forcing corner kicks... too many for my blood and we're lucky they didn't score off one! Officiating.... Yes it was horrible. There was another PennSt offsides where even the player with ball stopped becasue he was soooooo offsides, except the line judge was not paying attention and somewhere around midfield. But if he didn't see it, there's nothing you can do. A penalty is either called or it isn't, debate is left up to the fans! Later a ball in front of the zips bench was 2-3 YARDS out of bounds and no call... That should be on film since it was only ten yards from the lone on field camera!!! I've played soccer, and i know part of the game is what the refs don't see. That said, at times this match looked like 80's WWf wrestling with players distracting ref's and judges while propper fouls were committed. Who says soccer is boring PK.... Awesome, totally awesome... PSU fans knew they were screwed and voiced their displeasure The officiating led to their discontent as well, but it was a beyond obious call. I think everyone at the game knew that was probably the game right then and there! The midfield scape was players letting off steam after a very physical match... Afterwards there was plenty of sportmanship and well wishes... ironically it came from some ignorant fans as well. One tried to verbally acost me (as interpreted by tone and approach) and said he "hoped i was happy" :confused: took me a sec but i said "Yeah, actually i am!" to wit he said we got lucky and i then left it as "We still won though?? " Meanwhile another fan told a fellow Zip "I hope you enjoy your ride home" Again "confused" because this was not in a friendly tone..... All in all though met some great fans there and they wished us the best and hope to meet up in the cup! Even had a good conversation with one of their freshman walk-ons who complimented us on a tough match. b10 haters.... Yes the Zips have clearly left a bad taste in b10 mouths We represent both an inferior program that isn't part of the clique and a powerful empire that needs to be destroyed. The irony is sickening! Then again... "WE ARE....... BIG10 CHAMPS" doesn't help either I believe.... The best one yet

1-off games have a great upside! The money you lose up front is easily made back and more in concessions and merchandise, provided you are prepared to handle the crowds! It also creates an electirc atmosphere that excites your team and brings fans back. It done properly it builds your base and the 1-off price can be raised with demand (as judged by attendence for other games). As for downside, if no one buys your $15 ticket, it's not worth its face value anyways!

NO, i don't think Ohio is the best in the EAST........ I put Temple in that position until the kittens prove otherwise! People people..... can we put our differences and frustrations aside for a few days and just hate on Can't for the sheer joy of it win or lose? Afterall they are experiencing a few problems themselves (but they actually had expectations) and now both of their fans are arguing with eachother

Sounding cliche here, but i'm looking for the little wins. Certainly i prefer a win over the Poochies, especially since they seem to have a seething hatred of us, and think Hixson was a fluke.... YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME AND WE DID!!! But i will be content with player development, and the wins will follow. If seeing is believing, the iCoach is starting to prove his prognasticators wrong. The vibe i'm getting from the nation is that we are starting to like what we are seeng, and it is in the form of development. I'm looking for smart ball, continued development and what the heck, if that puts us in a postion to win, a last minute pass to "steal" the game would be nice. Afterall, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!

No but Temple does!! They were on the Bottom10 a few years back but they recruited and developed players well! Now they are up on PSt. half way through the 3rd!

lol... nice I could care less about what he does with the heisman, this fake whining has to stop. If he was used it was by his choice, as i am sure a more respectable school (like Akron for instance) would have been more than happy to offer him a scholarship

Wolstien said best before he passed.... We need to build it downtown. This from the guy who ran the Cleveland Force in Richfield. So build it in Downtown Cleveland.... Bild it in Downtown Akron (we will need the space ) They want to build a 20,000 seat retractable stadium for a team that doesn't exist Near an established team that doesn't fill its' own stadium. Am i missing something here or did i just connect the dots??
