  1. Came across Jarvis Green and Riley Robell who both committed to JMU recently. They had offers from the current staff, so I just added them to the “removed” section. I watched some of Robell’s film and thought to myself “d*** this guy is good and looks like someone we’d offer.” Sure enough we did. Jarvis Green is from the same high school DiMarco Johnson attended in South Carolina. JMU has landed a few guys lately that we offered.
  2. Update: Only 8 players still need a rating. Not much movement in the rankings except Toledo jumping into a tie with Ball State at #85. #61 - Central Michigan #62 - Miami #70 - Western Michigan #77 - Akron #79 - Northern Illinois #85 - Ball State #85 - Toledo #92 - Kent State #95 - Eastern Michigan NR - Ohio, Bowling Green, Buffalo
  3. Music to my ears! Makes me think he is at least on the two deep if he made it on the highlight pictures. Plus we’ve seen a #32 several times in the short video clips.
  4. One reason we couldn’t stop the run is because part of the time we weren’t lined up correctly. For instance in this play the TE blocks down and collapses the DE. The inside LB reads run and gets caught up in the wash. What the Safety is doing (top of screen) lined up stacked behind the CB I have no idea. He should be in the box and ready to help fill that massive gap. I could do more of these, but I’m not sure many people want to rehash last year’s defense.
  5. Thanks for the post bigjim. I like your thinking. I think what will eventually separate us from the rest of the league is the offensive and defensive lines. There will probably be some more turnover after this year as some guys who played a bunch last year may not see many minutes this year. That remains to be seen, but it tends to happen after a coaching change and we have some young talent that will develop. Just a guess, but we will probably see another heavy dose of incoming transfer portal defensive linemen next year. It will take some time for the younger guys to develop, but we should be much further ahead this time next year along the line. I also think there will be a noticeable difference in the physicality the team plays with. I love how the staff is targeting physical players on the recruiting trail. They definitely know what they are looking for and are bringing in some guys that will help. 100% agree QB play is important and I have no doubt JoeMo will have that figured out quickly. We have what we have this year and I think our top 2 guys will get the job done, but a player like Wassel could take this offense to another level once he settles in. (Already looking forward to the next few years). Not saying our current guys can’t excel because Irons certainly has all the physical tools, but who knows how consistent he will be.
  6. Impressive play by Safety target Harlem Howard. Edge target Nnamdi Udeogu. 6’5 with a 7 foot wingspan. Now has P5 offers from Vandy, Syracuse, and Rutgers. Jaleel Engleman who also plays DB with an interception. Edge target Kion Wright with the sack.
  7. HS commitments only. Rivals will be rolling out a new transfer ranking later this year, but are still working out kinks in the system.
  8. I updated the rest of the MAC teams in hopes of getting a few more eyes on the conference. Out of all the teams, only 15 committed players still need a rating. Not perfect, but better than any other recruiting site. My goal is to have every MAC player rated in 2023. Currently the team rankings look like this: #60 - Central Michigan #62 - Miami #69 - Western Michigan #77 - Akron #81 - Northern Illinois #84 - Ball State #90 - Kent State #93 -Toledo #97 - Eastern Michigan NR - Ohio NR - Bowling Green NR - Buffalo
  9. I’m anxious to see what our defensive scheme is. It seems like we are playing a 4-2-5 from the clips we’ve seen and what I saw in the 2nd half of the spring game But that could be misleading due to the defense matching up with the offense’s base 11 personnel. Could be similar to what UGA does where they are grounded in the 3-4 but bring an OLB down as a DE, shift the DL, and walk another OLB out in coverage giving look of a 4-2-5 and taking on some of its principals. Pretty sure we are not playing a 3-3-5 like the guys from SBNation kept referring to.
  10. WR Antwan Mays bumped to a 3 star. Penn commit Emmanuel Deng was given a 2 star. He was offered by Nick Toth who is now at Air Force. I assume Akron’s offer to Deng was honored, but I don’t know for sure.
  11. We’ll find out soon enough who the starters are, but for that clip it was: LT - Gray LG - Banes C - Robarge RG - Whigan RT - Williams And the TE that pulled looked like Brank.
  12. All of the 2023 prospects (that I know of) have been updated. Some players will not receive ratings until they commit because Rivals does not want to hurt perception if the prospects are potentially a 2 star by the service.
  13. Thanks! Glad to be here. We have a great group of contributors on this site.
  14. @Blue & Gold is doing an awesome job tracking the 2023 commitments. I didn’t want to keep cluttering up his thread with outstanding offers. I’ll continue to up date this list as we go, but I’m not sure how many more HS prospects we will take in the 2023 class. All prospects listed below have offers from the current staff and I’m also working on getting them rated. 15. 🤣 I thought the same thing.
  16. Devon Robinson at 2:52. Looks like a stud.
  17. Agreed. I think the Rivals guy has a connection to some of the Midwest JUCOs and was right in this scenario. I was really looking forward to watching Golden-Nelson play. Maybe next year.
  18. On3 was created by the same guy who started Rivals. Rivals will have the most up to date information on Akron recruits. On3 is incorrect about Wasel. He’s firmly committed to Joe Moorhead and Akron.
  19. All of our 2023 recruits now have ratings and Akron is #75 in Rivals team rankings. Although we will probably drop a few spots after the duplicate Max Tucker profile is deleted.
  20. Not entirely accurate about South Carolina, but I agree with your point about Clemson joining the SEC. They currently invest more into their football program than the majority of ACC schools and play a fairly weak conference schedule on a yearly basis. Clemson is also positioned to recruit heavily out of talent rich states like Florida and Georgia. The state of South Carolina always has talent, but not enough to split between both Clemson and South Carolina. Not to mention the other national powers that attempt to sway the top talent away. South Carolina left the ACC and went independent for years before joining the SEC. Their downfall was their own doing. The SEC allowed South Carolina and Arkansas to join in 1992. Like you mentioned, success has been hard to come by outside of a handful of years during the Holtz and Spurrier eras. The SEC does not seem interested in Clemson at the moment. I suspect Clemson has already peaked in football, but they will still be better than the majority of ACC teams. I think their recruiting along the offensive line, running back, and quarterback has fallen off the past few years. Fans can point to stars as much as they want but I’d argue there are plenty of 4 and 5 stars that should not be 4 and 5 stars. Add to the fact they lost one of the best defensive coordinators in college football and it will be an adjustment year for Clemson at the very least.
  21. Thanks for posting. The articles were a fun read despite these guys firing off the mark in a few places. I’ll always appreciate SBNation as they gave me my first chance to write about something I enjoyed. I’m sure these guys don’t get paid much (or at all) so I appreciate the effort they put forth in writing about the Zips.
  22. I can’t speak to all of those teams, but some most certainly won’t be ranked by end of year. A few things of note as I enjoy following turnarounds closely. UTSA lost their OC to Illinois, so it’s unlikely they will repeat their same success. On the flip side Illinois is flying under the radar and will likely surprise this year. South Carolina stomped North Carolina in the bowl game and only received 5 votes while UNC received 34. To make it even more head scratching is UNC will probably take a step back after losing their QB to the draft while South Carolina has loaded up with talent in the offseason. South Carolina, Illinois, and of course Akron are the teams I’m most interested in this year. Carolina and Illinois are in their second year of rebuilds and are receiving little respect from the national media (and other coaches apparently).
  23. I’m assuming QB1 is between Irons and Undercuffler. Both bring different skill sets to the position, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I’d be concerned if Jankowski or Jennings saw meaningful minutes in 2022. It sounds like the offense will mostly work out of 11 personnel sets (1 TE, 1 RB) and we’ll see a heavy dose of inside zone regardless of who the QB is. If Irons, probably see more RPOs and QB reads. If Undercuffler, we’ll probably see more screens, bubbles, and things of that nature.
  24. I’d guess Richardson is competing with Thomas at one of the OLB spots.
  25. Could be. And that may be a good thing after last year. I suspect the other DT is Devon Robinson and the DE is Victor Jones, but who knows for sure. I think JoeMo mentioned Boateng was coming back from an injury. He’ll probably battle Terry for that OLB spot when he returns.
