Thats what happened with Pribula from Penn State last year. Walked away before it ended. I know the schools can take them back if they want but I also know that after Summers entered and didn't like his options, Akron said he could come back but only as a walk on.

Frank Solich might be very interesting pick, but he is 81 years old and retired in 2021 because of health issues. Might not be the best candidate. I am all for what ever it takes to build the program. I am not a JoeMoe sympathizer, but I am also not a JoeMoe hater. I just would like to see the program build and the culture changed. I am excited about the freshman class and think they would be awesome to build around. I can't picture McManus being here next year, but if he stays that's even better ! We have three very large athletic defensive linemen that are very impressive that I think can make a difference once they develop and are given a chance, a very athletic and talented safety that I thought was going to play regularly, and two linebackers that I believe can make a difference. On the offensive side, McManus, Broughton who is crazy athletic and can probably be effective at any skilled postiion and a wr that runs 4.4 at least. I am excited

Thanks I did not realize that. I thought everything had to happen within 10 days. So player X puts his name in the portal in that window and can sign whenever? I think it will still be interesting because coaches will know very early who they are losing and can start planning on replacing them. Once a player puts his name in, they are out right? For example if Ohio State is in the championship and a player enters the portal, they are off the team right?
-
Ncaa announced today plans to eliminate 2 transfer portals and to only have one that is open for ten days. the potential dates are Jan 2- Jan 12. that's it. it is official to one transfer portal but the window date has not been confirmed yet. it is reported that this is something coaches have pushed for and most likely will pass. that will be crazy. players will have to decide if they are leaving before the playoffs are finished and the national championship. i think last year i read 3,000 players from FBS and FCS entered the portal in the winter and spring windows coaches will have ten days to fill empty positions which should make teams desperate.

this game means nothing unless the Zips lose. Even if they win 45-0 it won't show us anything at all. They are playing a JV team and I fear instead of developing players or seeing what options exist it will be used for nothing more than stat padding for the starters. it shows me that program development means nothing if it is all the same players in the same positions. i don't want to hear on sunday how some starter that hasn't done anything in three games suddenly figured it out. im not saying bench all the starters but i do think if they really wanted to develop the program this would be the perfect game for players to get experience and see what they can handle.

Financially speaking only: UMASS just hired Joe Harasymiak in December 2024. His contract details are: Term: Five years. Salary: Approximately $1.3 million to $1.4 million annually. NIL/Revenue Share: Guaranteed funds of $2 million for 2025 and $3 million for 2026. Staff Pool: Over $2.7 million, which is projected to be the highest in the MAC. Coaching Experience: 2025 – Present: Head Coach, University of Massachusetts 2022 – 2024: Defensive Coordinator, Rutgers University 2018 – 2021: Co-Defensive Coordinator/Safeties Coach, University of Minnesota 2016 – 2018: Head Coach, University of Maine 2014 – 2015: Linebackers Coach, University of Maine 2011 – 2013: Defensive Backs Coach, University of Maine If he gets that kind of money how could Akron EVER afford to bring in a Coach that is going to bring in all of this talent because of their names or what they have done. Most kids on these college football teams were only one or two years old when Eddie George retired from the NFL and would only know who he is from a parent UNLESS the school did a fantastic job of marketing and selling their name. Seeing this NIL/Revenue Share Guaranteed funds, makes me wonder if Akron football gets anything like that?

I guess by this logic UAB should be winning their conference every year right??? Trent Dilfer SUPERBOWL CHAMPION ????? Your logic MIGHT bring in a very small handful of players based off of a coach being a retired NFL player. MIGHT... You are not thinking like the modern day college athlete. College football players are now basically mercernaries. They are going to go with who is paying them the most unless they are an elite player and have major Power4 offers then maybe they will choose based off of the actual team and even though you see players transfer every single year from major Power4 universities to chase the dollar. I googled Bowling Green freshman three star football players signed this year... two jarin mock and deshon jenkins... they had older players transfer but only two freshman... According to ON3 for Akron every scholarship freshman is a three star: Vann Kavals, Ty Watkins, Gavin James, Tairan Davis, John Gould, Devin Reeves, Jaiden Brown-Demery, Luke Sivon, Kenneth McManus, and Cibastion Broughton... TEN... every single scholarship freshman... Your thoughts may prove right but there also a lot of variables .... But those freshman all knew about Eddie George and they got TWO three stars

Central Michigan played Pitt and Michigan both I am sure they got a nice payday. And I am sure the players that went to Central Michigan, saw the schedule and saw "I can get exposure by playing these big schools and showing what I can do." I would rather have the money now over the next two - three years from playing 2-3 Power4 schools and build the pot, then saying look if we play this easy schedule MAYBE we can get a winning record...

Poll: Which "dumb butt play" hurt the Zips the most last night
ZippyDoo replied to 1981 grad's topic in Akron Zips Football
here is a breakdown: edge rushers Interior Defenders Hall 4 solo 5 assists 1.5 sacks 1 qbh (163 snaps) Laventure 1 solo 4 assists 1 qbh (153 snaps) Durham 1 tackle 6 assists .5 sack 1 qbh (193 snaps most on defense) Hull 1 solo 2 assists (182 snaps) D. Frazier no stats (60 snaps) Mixon 1 solo 2 assists (51 snaps) J. Frazier 1 assist (29 snaps Murphy 3 solo 2 assists 1 qbh (91 snaps) total: 5 solo 12 assists 2 sacks 2 qbh total 6 solo 10 assists 2 qbh This isn't working. Let me guess starters will play against Duquesne for stats, nothing will be learned about the freshman and it will repeat itself once we play conference. The ends are not getting ANY pressure on any qb. Freshman 6'5 265 athlete extremely athletic and fast Freshman 6'4 317 lbs extremely powerful How is an end that plays more than any defender on the field have 1 tackle and 6 assists? Bruno has matched his performance for the entire year last year in about a third of the snaps. If the line is not getting pressure the secondary will get torn up. I know the defense kept us in the game against Wyoming and we should have won, I know Nebraska was a completely different opponent, and I know we should have won the game against UAB. Duquesne is wash you can pound your chest all you want after the game, but we got Toledo, Central Michigan, and Miami of Ohio. Why not try these other two and see what happens? If your worried about redshirting, they have four games to burn. -
That's what I am saying Kreed. I don't believe you throw in the towel and start all over with another coach and blow it all up. I can't remember who said it, but someone pointed out that the buyout for JoeMo is close to a mill for two years. Why not put that towards NIL encourage the good players to stay and maybe some other talent to come? Kids are going to Akron for one of three reasons: a.) they have no other Division 1 offers b.) they believe that the program is so bad that they can come here get playing time early, get film and bounce in no more than two years to get paid c.) somehow Akron has the financial backing to entice them with money. I also remember someone posting that the AD or JoeMoe mentioned they wanted to try and raise 1 mill for NIL. That target is probably way high and not achievable certainly not if it is meant just for football. But maybe it's the "shoot for the stars land on the moon" and get half of that to encourage borderline players to stay and others to come in. College football is all about who is going to pay the most for the athletes. If you can't or won't pay, your level of athlete is going to drop down several Tiers. Texas allegedly spent $280,000.00 just on Archie's Official Visit alone. What do athlete's coming here get for an official visit? Hotel, dinner, tour of the campus and probably a promise to get the chance to play right away.

IF Newell and Adams were disciplinary scratches then I am fine with that and that shows JoeMo is trying to discipline the players and hold them accountable just like a lot on here are complaining about. Adams was also scratched from Nebraska so I am believing that the assumption is correct. Cheatom also has been scratched for two games. He traveled to both games and was in uniform but has not sniffed the field other than warm ups. He was the most productive or one of the most productive against Wyoming and yet can't get on the field now, again I guess he is in the doghouse also. I am new to this forum and I love all the input and especially all the work that Cat and others put into analyzing. It's awesome. But it also seems like there are a lot that come on to basically say fire JoeMo, end the football program it's not worth it, spend the money elsewhere... etc etc. To those people I think there is only two solutions, bitch until the program ends or fire JoeMoe. But what happens when the next coach comes in and has to start all over again, the losses continue, there is no NIL money to pay any player to come here, no players want to come here because of the continuous losses, and the losing seasons continue, those same people will be on here screaming the same thing end the program, get rid of this coach, he sucks, we should have never hired him. Until things change as whole throughout the college format teams are always going to struggle. Akron is very far behind the eight ball and people will say Bowling Green changed it or Buffalo changed it... Buffalo was losing until there was a little over a minute left in the game... Akron can change it around, I do believe JoeMo can change it. I'm not a fan of a lot of the decisions player wise but he has to work with what he has. I'm sure he did not go into the season expecting Finley to look like a first year qb for the first two games. The younger players need to get experience. I think Bozz will be good he can learn a lot from Coop. The freshman that are here look extremely talented if you go in and look at their highlights. We have a freshman D lineman that is 6'4 317 lbs. He is young but look at his highlights he is a force. We have a defensive end that is 6'5 265 lbs. Look at his highlights this kid dominated both sides of the ball (even was the team QB and won all section QB and D end) there are a lot of highlights of him dunking and dominating basketball games, and was a star pitcher. We have a safety that is a freak of nature that is extremely fast and athletic, and we have two linebackers one from VA and one from FL that again if you watch their highlights they dominate. And we cannot forget McManus who is a true freshman as well and is holding his own. Maybe we should to get these other guys on the field and see what they can do now before they lose interest. The D line certainly needs help and the secondary is getting shredded. The team lost half of last years roster, I'm sure they will lose more after this season. Something has to entice these players to stay here and want to be here. That is the only way JoeMo or the next coach can build a winning program. It starts at the core and they want to stay.

Poll: Which "dumb butt play" hurt the Zips the most last night
ZippyDoo replied to 1981 grad's topic in Akron Zips Football
I agree with Kreed. Mistakes are going to happen and players will get called for penalties such as holding where they are trying to make a play. Summers calling the fake cadence with the referee two feet away from him was completely boneheaded. This was not like Durham getting caught up in the emotion and getting the 15 yards or half the distance what ever it was. Summers is a senior and supposed to be a leader he knows better. That was definitely a turning point. His teammates let him know it, the coaches let him know it, and I don't think he played a snap after that but I may have missed if he did. Initially, I was upset with how Joe handled the Durham penalty but the more I thought of it, I believe it was a teaching lesson and "hey we need you in this game, keep your head." type moment which in my opinion was actually good coaching. If Durham were to get ejected we would have really been hurting. We did not dress a third d end on that side and to this point D. Frazier has been ineffective. I'm not impressed with Durham to this point, but he is needed until someone else shows they can step up. The Summers penalty though... I think we all had the same thought when that happened. To me that is the "dumb butt play" that changed the outcome. -
If the talent is not there it doesn't matter who the coach is. If the players are getting paid to go to other colleges why would they come to akron? bring in your young coach full of pee and vinegar maybe the best mind in coaching if he cannot bring in the talent it isn't going to matter at all. as soon as the last game ended last year, instead of celebrating the players were immediately talking about how it was time to get paid and they were gone. that's the mentality of the college athletes with NIL now. There is no loyalty to the university it's show me the money. Jomoe doesn't need the money, why stay if he didn't care? Especially since the majority of the posts in here say he can go elsewhere? Maybe what he complains about aren't excuses it's him trying to point out what needs to change so they program can recruit the better talent and convince it to stay so they can build a program.

Not trying to stir the pot at all, but why would anyone think that getting rid of joe is going to solve anything? the players that can are going to go where they can get money. until akron starts having money to pay the players akron will be a stepping stone. kids will come here because "it's D1" and they will hope to get film to bounce as soon as they can. example marcus moore left being a starter to get "paid" and is fourth string at purdue- hasn't played a snap. over half of Akrons team wasn't even on the roster last year. i don't agree with some player decisions that are playing and getting an absurd amount of playing time, there is only one starter from last on offense 2 if u count polk... an entirely new defensive line except bruno who stands out because nobody is doing anything. he is barely average to D1 ends. there are only 99 d ends in ALL of D1 who are ranked LOWER than Durham, yet he has more snaps than anyone on defense. it is a very tough position for any coach
-
mixon 1 tackle durham 1/2 tackle hull 1/2 tackle. that's it for the entire D line coop only has (2) 1/2 tackles they r shutting him out summers has 3 solo (1) 1/2 but hasn't been on the field since his penalty maybe 2 qbhs. that's why kitna looks like brady. no pressure and he is confident now. 23/32 270 2 tds 1 int and it's only first half
-
UAB covers 24-7 Defensive line has not shown that they can hold up. Some great stops on 4th and 3rd and ones, but that's it. i think kitna is going to have to eat up the secondary. patrick finds the end zone. he has really impressed me. To me, patrick, cooper and malcolm are the bright spots thus far.

thanks i wasn't sure where it was from. it's very easy to read. i like it. this was the first time i looked at PFF. i was confused at first because i did not know about the snap minimum count. i like being able to see what a completely independent rating system scores them as.
-
where did u get that depth chart from? i'd like to visit that site. PFF had mcmanus the highest rated player for the team. PFF had the defensive line at: Dall 69.4 Hull 57.8 Laventure 65.3 Durham 54.5 mixon 67.1 murphy 62.2 Cheatom 80.2 d frazier 59.4 j frazier 38.6 duncan 49.9

On a side note to lighten the mood... On X Zips Barstool predicted Zips by 30.. obvious sarcasm... The fire storm that it started is hilarious if you are looking for some good entertainment.

Quick look showed that Bryan McCoy had 14 tackles (6 solo and 8 assisted) and 1 qbh Bryan is listed as a starter.... Nunnally had 1 tackle for Purdue ( he is now listed at 265, he was not that big as a Zip last year) CJ listed as second string LDE and Marcus Moore had zero stats.. Listed as fourth string nose tackle I don't know how many snaps they played to go along with the stats....
