only thing I could find on Riggins was that he was top rated, he was considering Minnesota but he was not speaking publicly, however Akron may be top of his list if he was going G 5. Probably playing time. Come in play for one or two years and bounce. Unless you are a true super stud you go to any of those Power 4 schools you aren't seeing the field for two or three years. Come to Akron get on the field right away get that tape and go chase the dollars. Akron is nothing more than JUCO. That's it.

Bowden went 8-5 and won the first bowl game in school history and was let go three years later when he went 4-8... It isn't always greener on the other side. Joe Moe has shown improvement each year despite having the odds stacked against him. Things like one less practice a week are a big issue. Not having NIL money is a big thing yet somehow, he still brings in decent talent and is able to compete in the MAC with really nothing to offer except playing time. I just don't understand the urgency to get rid of him when the team has shown improvement. I agree that there were games that could have/ probably should have been won, but nearly every program could say the same thing and there aren't too many undefeated teams still out there. Everyone on here that wants rid of Joe Moe assumes the next guy is automatically going to be better or is going to be the next Ryan Day and what if it isn't? What if it is the next Kenni Burns and it sets the program back ten years??? Joe Moe has steadily improved the program with no money, less staff, less recruiting opportunities, and less practices I would rather see him stay and see what he can do with those things added.

Serious question for all the Joe haters, if joe leaves what are your expectations? for the first three to four years you can't possibly expect to win more than two or three games a season and how much time are you going to give the new coach before you start calling for his removal? The issue with Zips football is not coaching it is not being able to compete financially with other institutions. Football players at akron get 91$ a month, big 10 football freshman players 35k a year. how do u compete with that? i watched a segment on lane kiffin. supposedly LSU is giving him a 25 million dollar war chest just for football. Kansas just got a huge donation from a hedge fund guy named booth for football and they named the stadium after him so now they have a huge war chest for football. the elevators at akron don't work in the dorms, don't work in the parking garages and they get 91$ a month. there are bigger issues than coaching. but honestly, how long do u give a new coach with a new staff and most likely a huge turnover of players because it wont be "his team" for four years of his players?

toledo beat central michigan and miami, oh is about to win i i believe if i heard correctly that means Miami is playing western michigan for the MAC championship because of a tie breaker...

central michigan is about to beat kent state. they are beating them 21-9 with four minutes left that means that central michigan is still in the running for mac championship AND kent will not be going to a bowl. its like yay we beat central michigan still competing for the championship but in the same breath we freaking lost to kent state !!!

finally something that Gp1 and I agree on ! I know the grass is not always greener on the other side but for one am ready to move on from the finley era. you could foresee every run/fumble him getting up acting like he had been hit harder than any player was ever hit in the game of football... I don't know if they will go with roggow, broughton, the new guy coming in or a transfer but i am ready to move on for sure...

OMG let's play a game how many wet dreams has GP1 had involving himself and eddie george? i'll start with at least 15 this football season... These players don't even know who eddie george is !!! The team went 1-6 in the conference and 3-8 overall. they had three players recently arrested and if you were at the game last night you would have seen them on more than one occasion acting like less than desirables. I'll stick with Joe Mo. thank you.

i thought Stroh Stadium was not nice at all. i have been to MANY high school stadiums that were nicer than it. A LOT nicer than it. I don't see how any fan that has actually been to it in person can say that it is a nice stadium. they don't even have restrooms... portopotties only. and the "big screen" looks like a 75" tv that u can't see anything on.

I was at the game last night. The Akron Stadium is much much nicer than Bowling Green Stadium. It was their last home game of the year obviously it was their senior night and it was far from a sellout crowd, even though they had a retired NFL player head coach. in my opinion, Joe is not going anywhere. He will be back next year and this form will be just as entertaining with all the haters on it next year I do personally hope he does better and I hope the team does better. I really want to see the zips succeed and I like the direction they are going. I hope the athletic director could find a way to support the program and hopefully the real fans start to come out and support it as well.

i heard spriggs is already meeting with an agent, Dall has his pick of schools, and Laventure is not coming back unless he is getting paid, we all know what that means. Laventure and Dall deserve it. I doubted them both at the start of the season but they absolutely proved me 100%.. I would love to see Riggs come back for one more season, but I think he is gone I was at the game last night better prepared for the cold weather, but it was the first time I realized how small gant really is in person. I thought he had a really good year and I think he is gonna get paid but he gets a portal as well. I think he will be gone. I don't think Bosworth has the numbers or the stats to really go anywhere I think according to PFF there's only like two linebackers rated lower than him in all of division one football. I think he needs one more year at least to play. He hardly played at all the last six or seven games I think.

what an interesting observation from someone not affiliated with the University and not subjected to all the constant crying about how horrible of a coach Joe Moe is....

let's just call it like it this. people are on fall into: a.) cancel program all together cause it's a waste of taxpayer money and they will never compete b.) get rid of joe moe that will solve all the problems or c.) my favorite being in an nfl player and that will pack the stands zips did better than i thought they would after starting 2-6. I give them credit. the players could have just thrown in the towel but they didn't. Kent state was heartbreaker but was an exciting game that could have gone either way. It's always easy to make all the right coaching decisions from the comfort of your couch and everyone on here can solve all the problems. that's why i come here

I have been to six games over the last two seasons, all home games. Last Tuesday was the first time I saw the Zips lose in person. I thought I was a lucky charm. The Toledo game last year that went into overtime was cold and I did not think the Zips were going to win that one but they pulled that one off. Tuesday night was by far the largest crowd I have seen there. It was fun even though it was cold. Both student sections were into the game, both have them had their brain dead fans with no shirts on and at sat there thinking how can my old fat body be shivering and they are over there with no shirts even in overtime? Then I remembered that they are not old and fat and they are probably two sheets to the wind and they will probably not even remember the game tomorrow. But regardless the atmosphere was fun... That's what rivalry games are supposed to be... I am all about playing whoever they have to play YSU or anyone that they can to build up some rivalries and some hatred and animosity towards. Until the team gets better it probably won't be a Toledo or Miami but maybe some day if Zips can play spoiler. But whoever said Toledo is on a different level right now is absolutely correct. Gleason looks really good. They have a very good foundation there and do a solid job of recruiting. I can't believe i am saying this and hopefully I don't get banned, but don't be surprised if Can't state does a decent job of recruiting. That coach is going to say, we are turning things around look we went at the very worst 4-8, but they are actually still contending to be bowl eligible and they should have beaten Buffalo and they should have/could have beaten Ball State. They are going to get some good recruits. The battle for the Wagon Wheel could and should be very exciting...

So I did look and you are right LZIP on paper we have at least 62 that could return. Out of those 62, I expect Durham, Dall, Laventure, Hull, Gant, King, Jones, Davis, and Reed at least to be gone. That would drop us down to 53. WR is strong if Mason, Williams, and Polk return, but Hills R-So, Sivon F, Louis R-So, Monz - R-F, Hauda - F, and Witherspoon R-F really have no experience (I'm sure they will get some transfers in that can contribute. Mason is awesome. If that kid was not so vertically challenge he definitely would have been at a Power 4 school. QB we have Roggow (6 snaps) and Broughton returning. (Brookhart will be a coach). It's funny Roggow is listed at 6'4 but he is likely if he is 6'2. I like how quickly he gets rid of the ball. I'm curious to see what the future is with him moving forward. I don't know what to expect out of the secondary. Reed is ranked 145 and has excellent size I think he will hit the portal. I liked when Somerville played Thomas and Kamara both have over 140 snaps and seem decent so we will see how they do at corner Safeties aren't rated high but they most likely will all be back. Linebackers Benege and Spriggs are both sophomores (Spriggs R-So) Spriggs is gone. Benege has 43 snaps Everyone is either a freshman or R-F Nittole 2 snaps, Hocker 38 snaps, Bosswell started the season but dropped off quite a bit. I do think that Reeves and James will be ready to go next year but that is a very young linebacking corps. TE, All three could come back. I think Cravaack has been great R-So, Whisner R-JR has done very well when he has gone in and Newell has been injury plagued all year so I think he will return he does not have anything to base leaving on. I did notice in the UMASS game that Kavals (FR D End) went in for the last two snaps as a tight end but it was only to take a knee so it probably doesn't mean anything. I can't see them moving him to tight end and keeping four there next year. But this is a very solid group to return. OL, King, Jones, and Davis will all hit the portal. I that McManus comes back for one more year. Out of Fox, Gould, Stopiak, and Kumfert nobody has more than 10 snaps except Mann who has 15 and Mobley who has 12. I don't know what is up with Shorr I never saw him play last year or this year but he is a big kid? RB, Gant gone. Patrick will be back I like him. He is explosive when he is on the field. Curry 17 snaps, Macon 15 snaps, Williams 52 snaps - Gee none and reed none so they will definitely need help there but I'm sure they can get another quality back there. DL. Durham, Dall, Hull, Laventure will all hit the portal. I was wrong Kai Murphy may come back he is a R-Jr, Mixon is a R-Jr. The twins aren't starters and are linebackers maybe they get moved there. Kavals, Brown-Demery, Bivens, Watkins all freshman with no snaps. I don't think Cheatom is coming back. And Duncan, Brown, Vega, Musiki, and Murphy have all been forgotten and all are walkons. I really don't think they will be back. Even if I was wrong and every single person returned and NO ONE hit the hit portal at all thats still 43 spots to fill with no qb experience returning, no OL experience returning except McManus. Gant and Patrick would be good but only if the OL is good. But I think if I remember correctly going into this year the defense was the big question mark especially on the line. Next year it looks like it is going to be the same on both sides the O line and the D line and the line backers are going to be very young as well. I'm not blaming Joe Moe or pushing for him to leave I'm not a hater... but whoever is here is going to have to be a coach with a "coaching staff". The team is going to be extremely young next year. I do think the important thing would be that the players that would be next year would be all Joe Moe's players and players that he has had so he should know what he has. That should be a good thing. If you brought in a new coach with a new coaching staff they are going to have to work with a majority of players that are left behind and not who they necessarily would have chosen. That sucks. Then they have to weed out the ones that they don't want and replace them which is going to take time and go through another rebuilding phase. The whole cycle just sucks and seems like an endless vicious repeat of ground hog day which i freaking hated after the first ten minutes....

I totally get it Cat and I do come off as though I am attacking one player. I guess the point I am trying to make is I think it is very poor coaching on the new D line coach. He plays four guys; Dall, Hull, Laventure, Durham. (Murphy and Mixon rotate in occasionally) That's it. The Frazier twins get some snaps here and there (D. Frazier 188, J. Frazier 88) and that's it. Cheatom came into the season with good numbers never gets on the field (39 snaps). The guy is crazy athletic and had good numbers for the number of snaps he played last year, as good as Dall last season. They bring in Murphy, Brown and Duncan as walkons. Murphy gets 11 snaps, Brown 15, and Duncan 8 snaps thats it. My point was that Durhams numbers don't justify the number of snaps that he has played and we know that Dall is gone and most likely Durham also, so there has been NO development at the edge position. The twins are not the answer going into next year. No fault of theirs, they are linebackers not edge rushers. I don't see any of the walkon's coming back. Look at the interior linemen: Laventure is gone and rightfully so, Hull will follow I would bet YOUR lunch money that he follows Marcus Moore and bounces if even to another MAC team and tries to get some money. Murphy is a senior, Madden red shirt senior, Vega walk on that has played 3 snaps can't see him coming back, and musika 82 snaps that is rated a 43 %. Mixon is a red shirt sophomore with good size that seems like his snaps are far and few between and when he starts producing gets taken out. Other than Mixon who on the defensive line next year is going to have any experience? You have four freshman: Brown-Demery 6-4 310 (looks closer to 6-5 315); Bivens 6'0 255; Watkins 6'5 240; and Kavals 6'5 265. All red shirted and have never gotten a snap. Not against Duquesne a total blowout, UMASS, total blowout, or Toledo embarrassing blowout. The starters were in until the very end padding their stats. How does that develop the program? It doesn't. They had four games they could have played and still be red shirted. Why not see what they could have done? Now are defensive line is going to be in an even worse position going into next year than it was this year. It just seems that knowing how the system is, they did nothing to prepare for the future of next year. I don't expect Leonard to be back. Personally I don't think the defensive line played well at all, he did nothing to develop them/they did not improve throughout the year, and he did nothing to develop for next year. I don't know about Tibs, obviously Joe Moe is the big unknown. No qb development, no offensive line development except McManus, no secondary development, whoever the coach is next year is definitely going to have to a lot of developing and A LOT of coaching....

Joe Moe didn't miss the field goal, drop the punt, or throw the interception. He also was not in the secondary letting the Kent wide receivers do whatever the wanted to like they never played defense before. He did however, have the offense last night have over 500 yards offense a qb that threw for over 400 yards, a wr that caught for over 200 yards and an rb that had 96 yards rushing... BUT most importantly to me... his team DIDN'T quit down 18 going into the fourth quarter and fought back and tied the game.... somebody motivated that team on both sides of the ball... But let me guess, we aren't going to give him credit for the offensive performance and we aren't going to give him credit for the team NOT giving him and scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter? we will just bash and hate on him and say he has to go cause he sucks.... It was a great game and it didn't go the way we wanted it to... sometimes that happens....

last night was the coldest i have been in many years. I totally miss judged my clothing attire and over estimated the dollar general hand warmers i bought ! the crowd was amazing and the game was actually exciting. i thought the tribute to veterans was nicely done and the halftime show was nice how the bands came together. I am surprised at all the hatred towards Joe Moe. Some of the play calling I didn't understand. There was one drive when we had the ball the at midfield headed towards the scoreboard and finley threw two passes in a row towards akron's sideline that should have been intercepted and then went with a run that was stopped. Joe Moe lost it on the guy calling the plays, it was not Joe Moe calling them... He screamed at him for a good couple minutes obviously unhappy with the play calling. I'm not really sure how much of the plays are called by him. I am sure he sets the scheme but that particular series I don't think he called. The secondary sucked butt plain and simple but in my opinion the defensive line had no pressure either. I know someone was praising Durham and said he had his best game but i certainly did not see it. He had one qbh and one tackle which he was lucky on. He took a poor angle and got the kids ankle. He has been an absolute bust and you cannot justify playing him all but 89 snaps this year. he has played 629 of 718 snaps more than any player in all of Division one football. There is no reason. The defensive line had no pressure all night. Bruno was non existent also. It was a bad night for the line all together nothing good to say other than Hull had a nice sack and Durhams "tfl" was it. Nothing else behind the line of scrimmage. The defensive line had two standouts this year Dall and Laventure. Nothing changed the entire season, ever... The stadium emptied out quite a bit when Kent went up 18 and understandably so, but Zips scored 18 in the fourth quarter. They didn't quit... the players played til the end that says something about them and the team. I was very impressed. I thought it was over when Kent went up 11 in the third and I was wrong. I thought the officiating was horrible. I didn't understand why no PI's were called and couldn't believe there was only one holding called, but Kent didn't quit and neither did the Zips. I did think it was a pass interference in OT in the end zone but being at the game they didn't show a replay. But Sometimes you just lose a game. Kent lost to Buffalo in the last minute of the game and lost to Ball State in the last four minutes of the game otherwise they would be sitting on top of the MAC. It is what it is. Last night was a very entertaining game There will be a high turnover for sure. Players will not come to Akron and stay unless they never have a chance to leave like your walk ons. Players will come to Akron hope to be here no more than two years, hope to get their highlight film and then bounce for the money like Nunnally, Moore, and McCoy. Next year it will be Dall, Gant, Laventure. and if Leonard leaves he will take Durham with him. Hull has played enough and is only a sophomore that he will go also and tried to get paid. So the entire defensive line will be gone to the portal and graduates, and guess what... no one will be ready to step in because no one else has played except Leonard's boys... Linebackers wont be much different, spriggs, cooper, summers will all be gone; corners dewalt and reed will be gone... But this is not just an akron thing it is all G5 schools but until Akron starts paying (if ever) the only selling point for any transfer is "come to akron get playing time and go get paid". Laventure will be the poster child for that... hope for 5-7 which will be an improvement. What would be the selling point for a new coach? Come here start a new program with a new staff, new qb make a name for yourself with no money to spend? It might work OR you might get a UMASS and get an OF'er? Might get lucky and get a Kent State scenario you just never know but if you buy out Joe Moe now your down 1 mill right of the top... and probably at least 45 players to fill and you better make your decision quick cause the portal opens early January AND high schoolers are going to start committing in early December so if you are going to make a change at head coach better make it in like the next two weeks....

BG just lost to E. Michigan (2-6). Both of them are now 3-7 overall. Zips are well within the grasp of 6-6 if they take care of Can't State tuesday night. Biggest game of the year. I hope they come out with the intensity and motivation like they are playing for the MAC championship Tuesday night. I didn't know think 6-6 was going to be fathomable after starting off so poorly.

Not to compare Akron to the University of Pitt NIL money wise, but I know that the back up offensive linemen at Pitt get paid 100k and the starting qb for the season got an NIL deal of 1.8 mil prior to the season. He is now the backup and will most likely be looking elsewhere come portal time after how well the true freshman is doing. I can't imagine what the true freshman is going to get paid to stay there. But this is UMASS........... UMass has allocated a significant NIL budget of approximately $2 million for its 2025 football roster, a figure that is expected to grow to $3 million by 2026. Oh the woulda shoulda coulda If Joe Moe can win the last three despite the shouldas i'd say it was still a good season. 6-6 is probably more than what most on here would have realistically thought they would have achieved although they could have gone much higher. id consider 6-6 a win and wouldn't chase Joe out

really was an up and down game. first half was all defense and didn't get anything from the offense but somehow pulled it together in the second half. Really is there to go 6-6. if I was the head coach. i would focus on UMASS like it was a playoff game and a must win. it is the only game that matters. they cannot overlook them and think they are an easy win. they took buffalo all the way to the end and should have won. They have an edge rusher, #16 white, that is one of the top in the country and he plays all over. Whartman is there now and this will be a special game for him. I am sure there will be a lot of incentive for his guys to play hard for him. One game at a time, UMASS is the most important game of the season. AN ABSOLUTE MUST WIN FOR JOE MO AND THE ZIPS !
