If the talent is not there it doesn't matter who the coach is. If the players are getting paid to go to other colleges why would they come to akron? bring in your young coach full of pee and vinegar maybe the best mind in coaching if he cannot bring in the talent it isn't going to matter at all. as soon as the last game ended last year, instead of celebrating the players were immediately talking about how it was time to get paid and they were gone. that's the mentality of the college athletes with NIL now. There is no loyalty to the university it's show me the money. Jomoe doesn't need the money, why stay if he didn't care? Especially since the majority of the posts in here say he can go elsewhere? Maybe what he complains about aren't excuses it's him trying to point out what needs to change so they program can recruit the better talent and convince it to stay so they can build a program.

Not trying to stir the pot at all, but why would anyone think that getting rid of joe is going to solve anything? the players that can are going to go where they can get money. until akron starts having money to pay the players akron will be a stepping stone. kids will come here because "it's D1" and they will hope to get film to bounce as soon as they can. example marcus moore left being a starter to get "paid" and is fourth string at purdue- hasn't played a snap. over half of Akrons team wasn't even on the roster last year. i don't agree with some player decisions that are playing and getting an absurd amount of playing time, there is only one starter from last on offense 2 if u count polk... an entirely new defensive line except bruno who stands out because nobody is doing anything. he is barely average to D1 ends. there are only 99 d ends in ALL of D1 who are ranked LOWER than Durham, yet he has more snaps than anyone on defense. it is a very tough position for any coach

mixon 1 tackle durham 1/2 tackle hull 1/2 tackle. that's it for the entire D line coop only has (2) 1/2 tackles they r shutting him out summers has 3 solo (1) 1/2 but hasn't been on the field since his penalty maybe 2 qbhs. that's why kitna looks like brady. no pressure and he is confident now. 23/32 270 2 tds 1 int and it's only first half

UAB covers 24-7 Defensive line has not shown that they can hold up. Some great stops on 4th and 3rd and ones, but that's it. i think kitna is going to have to eat up the secondary. patrick finds the end zone. he has really impressed me. To me, patrick, cooper and malcolm are the bright spots thus far.

thanks i wasn't sure where it was from. it's very easy to read. i like it. this was the first time i looked at PFF. i was confused at first because i did not know about the snap minimum count. i like being able to see what a completely independent rating system scores them as.
-
where did u get that depth chart from? i'd like to visit that site. PFF had mcmanus the highest rated player for the team. PFF had the defensive line at: Dall 69.4 Hull 57.8 Laventure 65.3 Durham 54.5 mixon 67.1 murphy 62.2 Cheatom 80.2 d frazier 59.4 j frazier 38.6 duncan 49.9

On a side note to lighten the mood... On X Zips Barstool predicted Zips by 30.. obvious sarcasm... The fire storm that it started is hilarious if you are looking for some good entertainment.
-
Quick look showed that Bryan McCoy had 14 tackles (6 solo and 8 assisted) and 1 qbh Bryan is listed as a starter.... Nunnally had 1 tackle for Purdue ( he is now listed at 265, he was not that big as a Zip last year) CJ listed as second string LDE and Marcus Moore had zero stats.. Listed as fourth string nose tackle I don't know how many snaps they played to go along with the stats....
-
Believe it or not the over under is 47/5 or 48 depending.... Maybe the Zips offense will break out... Honestly, I hope that something positive can come out of the game for them to build on. If the Zips can go 2-2 the first four games then I would still consider that a success heading into conference play.

Nebraska Offensive Line: Tackle 6'5 325 guard 6'6 320 center 6'1 315 guard 6'5 315 tackle 6'10 320 Zips had 1 qb hurry and zero sacks against wyoming. Raiola threw 42 times against Cincinnati. Good chance he tops that... I think i'm taking the huskers -34.5...

When was the last time those words were ever written???? Zips could have been tied with Kent State for first place but NOOOOOOO
-
Laventure was all over the place. The "stats" really didn't add up, 1 solo and 3 assisted but he was constantly causing havoc and running loose. Hull had 2 assisted tackles Hall 1 solo 2 assisted 1 QBH and 2 deflections (1 led to the int that I thought was going to change the momentum) Durham 1 solo tackle (TFL) 3 assisted I could be wrong but I believe he was on the field for 70 of the 75 offensive snaps, not including special teams. Cheatom 1 assisted tackle 1 pass deflectoin Mixon 1 solo tackle 2 assisted He came up HUGE on the fourth and 1 in the tight red zone. At the time it was 3-0 and I thought was going to give Zips a surge. I thought the LBs played well and the CBs helped out a lot on the outside runs. 1 QBH and 0 sacks is not going to cut it.. I do think that Laventure could have gotten credit for at least 1 or 2 QBH's but these stats came straight from the Akron statisticians. McManus played very well I thought for a true freshman. Stepped in and played well. It seemed early the OL was doing well and by half way through the third it started to fall apart. The sack that knocked them out of field goal range was the back breaker I thought. I thought Finley looked scared and extremely timid. He seemed to be short arming a lot I saw him rotating his arm like maybe it was sore or tight. He was throwing off his backfoot a lot and ducking. His reads and timing seemed off. Patrick looked great. For what it is worth the announcers said at half that Zips had 117 total yards offense and Patrick had 75? He looks like he could take it to the house on any play. Scott ran with ease through the line. It is not going to get any better this weekend. Nebraska's RB runs hard and Raiola completed 33 times of 42 attempts 2 tds, no ints Zips better figure out how to get pressure on him. A 68 yard punt in the air was insane. There were chances for the Zips to capitalize and they just couldn't. Wyoming did not respect or fear them and it was evident. Zips did not deserve to win that game, but they certainly could have.

Defensive Line is absolutely going to get tested hardcore: Starting Line: Dall - 11 games 339 snaps - 3 solo tackles 6 assisted 1 sack 1 pass deflection Hull - 5 games 2 tackles Laventure - 16 solo tackles 25 assisted 4.5 sacks D2 good numbers but listed at 6'1 270... very athletic hopefully can holdup with the big boys Durham 3 games @ Arizona 18 snaps played 0 stats Second String Frazier twins - 2 games combined 0 stats Mixon - 2024 did not play, 2023 Did not play Murphy - 8 games 5 tackles Madden - 4 games 1 tackle 3 assisted 1 sack K. Cheatom - 138 snaps - 6 solo tackles 3 assisted 1 sack They say the games are won in the trenches. I don't doubt these men can do it but be ready for some growing pains....

Biggest Game of the year for the Zips...

Early Football Previews and Predictions: Game One vs Wyoming
ZippyDoo replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
Biggest game of the year in my opinion. I think if we lose this game Zips may not gain any traction or confidence at all. Nebraska is really going to try and run the score up for the home opener and send a message to their fans then go on the road to UAB. Duquesne is not a sure win especially after three losses if that is what happens, then 2 of the next three games are Toledo and Miami. Could be 1-6 or 2-5 right of the gate. Akron beats Wyoming now maybe they have some confidence and come out of the first 7 games 4-3 losing to Nebraska, Toledo, and Miami.. -
Class of '26 Verbal Commits and Offers/Discussion
ZippyDoo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Not to diminish his talents or abilities at all, but if you look at his Rivals timeline, several of these offers were made when he could commit. For example, Florida A&M and Pitt both offered him in 2023 along with 17 other schools. He was only a sophomore. So someone showed interest then everyone jumped on board and tried to get his loyalty. -
ok thanks. was hoping to watch the scrimmages at least.
-
I know that camp starts tomorrow, and I believe the first day of full contact is Friday. Is this generally open to the public and are the scrimmages open to the public?
-
if my numbers are right there are approximately 100 players on Zips roster counting incoming freshman that are not listed currently on the roster. I only see two, Kavals and Sivon probably because they got their physicals. I'm guessing since they are below the 105 man limit Zips probably won't have anyone leave in the portal, may pick someone up from some Power4 schools that have to get down to the roster limit.
-
can someone much smarter than me explain how they foresee this affecting Zips team?
