  2. I wondered about that too. Maybe join a S.W.A.T. team or ATF squad? Become a trainer for the military? Is rifle itself an Olympic sport or only as half of the biathlon? I guess no one would mess with you if they knew your girlfriend was a collegiate shooting champ
  3. Any type of crime resonates louder at an urban campus...the rural uni's have an advantage in this regard, esp. w/women...they're perceived as safer. I think it hurts our Lady Zips sports a lot in recruiting and I'm sure the opposing coaches try to play it up to their advantage. As a student I ran into panhandlers a couple times but otherwise had no problems. I never lived in the dorms at UA so I can't speak to that.
  4. Quite appropriate here, actually...an Akron guy (Barberton) who was a thorn in the side of tOSU. I wonder where he'll be buried?

  6. http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...RTS08/611040316I didn't see any sports info on deltacollege.edu and didn't try to research these guys... I'm sure someone here will. Hopefully they are mature student athletes who can help us next year. I don't think JC transfers have to sit out a year, do they?
  7. It appears to me that CSU is going nowhere fast and therefore wants to leverage the successes and resources of its competitor uni's. I also thought that Proenza had poo-pooed the notion so I was surprised to read that Akron had endorsed the study. I don't think it will bear much fruit though. Athletically, I wouldn't be opposed to having shared teams in the Title-IX casualty sports like mens swimming, wrestling, track/CC, tennis, hockey etc. where the individual schools aren't all fielding their own teams. Now that I think about it, a NEO-regional college hockey team would be way cool...we could play at QLA and kick BG's butt up and down the ice. That we should do

  9. We can hang not only a loss, but a losing season on the rockettes tomorrow...what an opportunity. Let's go Zips, Get er Done !!
  10. 1 for 11 on 3rd down conversions, 34 yds net rushing. The Browns will have some high draft picks...who are the best OL prospects in college?
  11. If you notice how the dorm buildings are squeezed in there, there wouldn't be room on the ends for a complete bowl. It's a good spot but if additional buildings are needed there (and apparently the "mixed use" theme is a requirement to help get enough funding) it puts some limitations on the stadium design and size. The joys of being a space-restricted campus Maybe we could do a big dig project to put Exchange St. underground in a tunnel to give us some more room
  12. Thanks for the reports on the opening practice. If we see that in-your-face defensive effort then good things will happen for the Lady Zips. It would be a great milestone for the department to have all of our teams out of the cellar. With any amount of success, Kest will soon be at Cincinnati. OK...not funny.
  13. http://www.thisweeknews.com/?sec=home&stor...rts-240554.html"I just got a call from coach Dambrot, and he told me that they're ranked in the top 20 nationally in the preseason," Steward said. "They should be a big favorite to win the (Mid-American Conference) this year. They've only got two seniors this year, so I'm really excited about going there. I'm expecting to come in and play there right away."
  14. glad you had a great time, and you liked the whole varsity village thing. So Far MT and MW have done a great job for UC, things will keep improving. I was section 203 for the game today, seems UA brought a small group of fans. UC played bad the first qtr, but rest of the game played good. Good luck the rest of the season, until we play again up in the Rubber Bowl. The irony is that MT's fingerprints are more on Akron's program right now than Cinci's since he hired JDB and not Dantonio. But I think Cinci will continue to get better since they are in the Big East now...it should give them a recruiting advantage over the MAC schools and they already have their facilities up to snuff. And with Huggins (Akron --> Cinci) re-establishing the hoops there, MT should have some room to run.
  15. Did JD give any indication of why the MAC mgmt. dislikes Akron?
  16. I missed the opening drive...did Cinci punt or turn it over?
  17. I get an espn.com "File Not Found" screen for both links. ZipsZone has audio only, no video...I got spoiled after the first couple games. If it's on espn360 they should carry the feed on Z/Z
  18. Depth chart has Mike Schepp as backup LT to Crouch (?)W. Mich. lost to OU...that's gonna suck if OU beats us to a bowl game this year.
  19. I wish gozips.com would do the same type of thing. It was kind of funny hearing Tommy G. ask about players that he knows very well, being only a few months removed from working at Akron. Steve attributes most of the 16 sacks so far to Luke's limited mobility and thinks the line has played pretty well.

  21. even though cinci is OOC we need wins to get bowl eligible. there are a lot of bowls and there are a lot of teams who won't be eligible. if we are at least on the bubble then some bowl may have to hold their nose and take akron. it would be great to go to a 2nd bowl in 2 years for the $$, program recognition and for recruiting (against Can't State, cinci, etc.). Last year JD stuck with LG through the bad games and he got better so I doubt that we'll see any backups in there. I have a feeling we'll come out in the next game with some fire and intensity so win or lose I hope to see our heads in the game, making tackles and playing with discipline.
  22. gets his first win of 2006. he showed his ability with 3 TD passes but he seems to lose it late in the game with the game on the line by throwing INT's. hopefully it's a passing phase he will overcome. way to battle back after being in a hole early in the game...too bad the zips couldn't do the same.
  23. Martin JD , that's what happened. You guys played your best, we played our worst. Enjoy the wheel. If you guys win the MAC then maybe Martin will take JD's place on some watch lists. Your QB was a great find from N. Cal. Looks like the rivalry is alive and well. See you on the hardwood
  24. mcclain the soccer player converted the PAT. domonkos kicked off after that. espn apparently is not on the ball.
  25. I hope they put it on ZipsZone...as of yet there is no video link, just audio...
