  1. Kind of funny that red steve has ignored us for years while they fought with Marshall. I'm going to assume his being on our board is an actual compliment -- as Miami sees us as their toughest competition in the conference now. Thanks for the props red steve
  2. Wow -- I just re-read that post...boy was the spelling and grammar bad. Haven't posted for awhile and I was in the moment....
  3. I agree he is trying to get the ABJ off the hook for their pathetic coverage of the Zips. Funny thing about the ABJ when they decided to cover the football team leading up to the bowl game I learned something about the players. It's the same message in any sport...if you help the fans or community get to know the players they'll want to come out and root for them. We know nothing about Linhart, Ryback, or very little about any of the players for that matter because of the Beacon -- the information we have is because of this board and UAM. People want to read good stories about people....it's a pretty simple concept. I'm sure we could come up with a dozen angles to right stories about the Zips players from coaches, to announcers, hell don't you think it's about time they profiled Mike Waddell -- I think Mike has lived in obscurity long enough. Their is a great story there...heck there was a great story when Mike donated part of his liver to helpl his dad. Human interest...walk ons. The ABJ is a joke...I refuse to purchase there paper and only have a weekend subscription to the PD. They did a going forward look on the Big 10 yesterday.Hell if the ABJ wanted to prove us wrong they could match Akron article for article with the OSU articles and if attendance doesn't increase -- they win. Put your money where your mouth is Gaffney and Pantages. How about an ABJ Sucks emoticon?
  4. Can anyone confirm that quite a few of the players are bolting Akron for Louisville? This would be terrible and set us back quite a bit. I hear this earlier this week from a person who talked to family member of someone on the team. Also, I believe the Summit County POY from CVCA is coming to Akron or he was before Lolla left.
  5. I didn't get a Browns win yesterday so the Zips are my only hope for one of the two Christmas presents I was looking for .... Two interesting notes -- I was in the bathroom in the Legends Club yesterday and the two guys in front of my at the urinals were talking I didn't here what they said, but as they were leaving the bathroom the one guys said, "...yeah...Detroit Roo City baby!" How freaking cool is that? Watching highlights last night on Channel 3 and the guy goes on to mention....Can't State's own Antonio Gates and the next highlight is Chase Blackburn picks off a pass for a touchdown -- no mention of Akron at all....what kind of shit is that?
  6. Hey ZFF Were not going to Detroit -- We're going to Detroit -- Unless of course your from St. Louis then maybe Were going to Detroit.
  7. Lemming ranked him the number 1 player in the country it wasn't anyone on this site. Lemming is probably the Mel Kiper of high school football. I imagine he'll play in the HS all-star game and you can see him then.
  8. I've got 12 folks in tow this time. Got the tickets online today. I can't believe people make fun of Cleveland or Akron - Detroit is a dump and what's with putting the Hockeytown Cafe like 12 blocks from Joe Louis arena, but across from the baseball stadium. Anyone know anywhere else to go -- I thought that placed sucked. Food was microwaved and bad -- not to mentino $5 beer -- they think its NYC.
  9. It's also on 786 on Direct TV the ESPN full court package. I imagine most bars have that package as opposed to a large dish.
  10. CK -- were you in Detroit? That dome was amazing -- I think the idea of indoor football in NE Ohio is as good as it gets. The only people who don't want indoor stadiums in cold weather climates are people who already have them -- Detroit didn't replace their dome with a outdoor stadium did they? A simple aside to Cleveland fans who always tell me you need big time runnnig game in Cleveland for the winter months -- yeah -- that's what they had when the were successful in Buffalo, New England and Green Bay -- how funny is it that the teams that win (aside from Pittsburgh and they always choke with Cowher in the big game) throw the ball well. When Pittsburgh did win they had Stallworth, Swan, Cunningham et all. to go with their running game.
  11. Interesting thing to note in the media coverage section...the day after the MACC there was a column on other sports in the PD and the headline was OSU dominates Big Ten soccer post season awards or something and the second paragraph down was oh year Akron's Ross McKenzie was the player of the year in the MAC and local product Evan Bush was freshman of the year. That kind of pissed me off -- especially since we smacked them in soccer. Do you ever wonder how the articles would look if Akron takes down OSU in 2007? It'll be a first year QB at Akron and a first year QB (that is supposed to be all world) at OSU. It will be interesting with almost alll of the players on the two deep back along with Jabari, Kemme (RT), Kasparek, Dennis Kennedy and Joe McDaniel - Kevin Grant, Chris Brown, JOhn Mackey, Brandon Andersona and Chevin Pace all back from this year's team.
  12. Congratulations soccer team...4-1 on PK. What a great season.
  13. I understood if it wasn't the Big Ten it was going to be a big East team - South Florida?
  14. A few years back...I'm going to guess it was 2000 Toledo beat Penn State, shut out Marshall 42-0 and went 10-1. It was Gary Pinkell's last year. And they got no bowl bid. The very next summer the alumni association built a traveling bar/restaurant and took it to every game trying to show the bowl coalition they traveled well. They organized their trips and it all started to roll from there. Toledo was shafted worse than us in 2000. Congraulations to them for figuring out this attendance thing and getting an early invite this year.
  15. Way to go NCAA -- screw Akron out of two home games and then watch No. 3 Indiana lose, NO. 5 UCLA lose and No. 6 Duke lose -- by definition shouldn't they have played easier teams than Akron - yet Akron thumps WVU 5-0. Yeah your right you jackasses they are a no. 9 seed. GO ZIPS! One game at a time -- UConn first then Maryland.
  16. You can call me crazy all you want, but I'm not the one who blew the BSU game that would be JD. The game that with a win of Can't has us in the MAC Championship. Guess what he has put us there yet so I guess he's just as good as Owens so far. I was one of the first on this board to call for his firing by the way. All I would have like to have heard after the game was I let the team down for not calling a QB sneak on the goal line. How about some accountability. You talk about the lack of talent on this team -- well with that lack of talent a QB sneak and they are in the MAC Championship. You do need to remember you've got a Big East recrutied QB in there -- doesn't that account for something? How about Biggs and Hixon -- you saying they aren't talented. I don't think this team is untalented.
  17. By the way -- it's not my webpage -- not sure why the link showed that way. Even you haters should sign too -- when he gets to play you can have more reasons to say you were right. C'mon GP.
  18. I think the most interesting thing is -- although there is a lot that needs to happen for the Zips to get to Detroit -- it actually doesn't seem out of the realm of reality. The great thing is we aren't looking for Buffalo to knock of Toledo or something like that. I hate to say it, but this is all a moot point if we run QB sneak at BSU. Tell me coaches don't really win and lose game and I'll point to that game every time. So you guys can continue to sing JD's praises -- I say the jury is still out considering the lackluster inconsistent play of this team and the poor play calling when it counts.
  19. Anyone check the MAC website? This was there before yesterday's game. MAC EAST DIVISION: A Miami win over Bowling Green and an Akron win over Ohio gives the East title to Miami. A Bowling Green win over Miami and an Ohio victory over Akron gives the Falcons the title. For Akron to win the title, the Zips need to beat Ohio and Can't State the next two weeks; have Bowling Green beat Miami and lose to Toledo; and have Ohio beat Miami. For Ohio to win the East, the Bobcats need to beat Akron and Miami the next two weeks; have Miami beat Bowling Green; and Toledo to beat Bowling Green
  20. I hate the argument I predicted 5 wins and that looks pretty close. We didn't expect to beat BG and NIU those were extras so we ended up where I thought they took care of the Army and BSU losses. NO NO NO that isn't how you are supposed to think -- we beat BGSU and NIU and that was supposed to make them two games better than you thought. It's not a wash when you beat teams you should lose to and lose to teams you should beat! The fact that more people aren't pissed off about the BSU loss amazes me. The inch line and you have four plays to QB sneak it in the end zone and you go backwards five yards to go forward inches? Someone needs to ask Brookhart what the hell they were thinking -- that is by far more boneheaded than anything I've seen in years. I mentioned Winters in another thread and was bashed -- Winters was twice the offensive coordinator Brookhart or whoever is calling the plays and I lobbied for Owens to be fired for years.
  21. Maybe the answer is hire one and concentrate on coaching the team. The guy is doing this for the first time and he's got two jobs -- you think that makes sense?
  22. Dont' be so sure they still get to play Akron and their inept team.
  23. You guys who keep pimping the D are crazy -- they are equally inept.
  24. Fire the offensive coordinator what a freaking joke. Inches a QB sneak not a halfback run.
