  1. This is the University of Maryland's stadium - I'd really like to see something along this line.
  2. I find it hard to believe that TCU will not get a BCS bid. That's a really good team. One of the two almost certainly will, I'd just like to see both of them go. What I'd really like to see is TCU get a shot at the national title game. The more BCS teams that lose, the more likely both of them get into a BCA bowl game. I also wanted to see OSU take on Cincinnati, but that's a pipe dream since the Buckeyes area heading to the Rose Bowl and the Bearcats are not.
  3. Also of small note, Ronnie Steward got a couple of minutes and Steve Swiech made an appearance.
  4. You gotta love this stuff - a little jealousy (and some kudos) over our success. From the Bulls bulletin board above:Totally dominated by Akron... We registered one shot on goal over 90 minutes... They controlled possession all game. It wouldn't matter how we got to the Finals... if we had to play Akron, we were going to get dominated. A nice season for USF... but hopefully Keifer can make some inroads on some future Akron recruits. No one is stopping Akron, although Wake might give them a hell've match.
  5. From where I was standing, it didn't look good. He had to be carried off the field. I'm afraid he may have a broken shinbone just below the knee, but I hope I'm very wrong. They said he had ice on his hamstring. Hopefully just a pulled hammy.
  6. I'm not sure why we were that worried. After all they're a directional school, and a newby BCS school anyway. I want Stanford!

    wow

A man, a plan, a canal - Panama! Hey lets start a palindrome thread, its as much fun as Zips football has been this year.
  8. There are more teams eligible than bowl slots right now, but a lot of them have a good chance of finishing 6-6. Since the rule is that any 7-5 team must be taken before a 6-6 team, I'd say BGSU has a reasonable shot if they win their final game. If not, no chance. I think the other four will all go. None of the bubble teams will go. And in a bit of irony, Doug Martin's prediction of making a bowl game likely came down to the loss to the Zips (so we got that going for us ).
  9. You were only being critical of the fact we couldn't hear the game because of poor equipment. Frenchie even thanked a guy from Auburn who loaned them stuff so they could get back on the air. Dang, if we had just held on against AP we could be looking at a 3-1 start. If wishes were ...
  10. Good, knocks another BCS team out of BCS bwol contention, I'd like to see TCU and Boise get a bid this year.
  11. Can't wait to see what the Rowdies cook up for this one. I don't care in the least about the score as long as we win. But I'll go with 3-1 with Nagbe, Bunbury and a PK from Gavin once the Bulls realize the game is out of reach for them.
  12. From the article:He attended Indiana, playing for the perennial power, and was a standout for a team that still holds the NCAA single-season record with 23 wins in a row in 1997 before losing to UCLA in the national semifinals. When the Zips reach the national semifinals, they will be in the exact same position. How cool would it be for Porter to break his playing record coaching the team that does it.
  13. Zips down 37-33 right now. Humpty hit a three.
  14. The tourney video is an $8.95 charge. You can get the audio on http://www.wralsportsfan.com/
  15. Since we can't reply to the News Collector posts, I just thought this one was impressive enough that it deserved a reply. So the number one team in the nation also puts up two academic All-Americans. The more I know about this team, the more impressed I become. Caleb porter has put the foundation in place to perhaps become the best coach UA has ever had in any sport. Long live the king!
  16. That was pretty much the only comment on the board, they are not happy to have to face us after a 13-3-3 season but they are confident because they played us at our house in the preseason (so they know what they're getting into) and apparently because they beat us at our house a couple years ago in the tournament. Don't see that happening again. I think they'd best concentrate on Stetson. It's nice to be the 800 pound gorilla for once.
  17. My fantasy final four - the teams I'd most like to see make it and use beat them in some combination - Akron-OSU/UCLA-Harvard. What I do not want to see is any team in the state of North Carolina make it (so no NCST, UNC or even Wake) seeing as how the final four will be held in Cary, NC (five minutes from NCST, 20 from UNC and about two hours from Wake). I don't even want to see any ACC teams.
  18. Good god - See Tee as the voice of reason - up is down, left is right, I may have to go root for Can't State.
  19. Since you asked, here were all the conference finals results - courtesy of Top Drawer Soccer. They don't mention that the MAC does not have an automatic bid this year. Also, for the question on why Butler will go on the road as a #12 seed, according to big soccer.com Butler did not put in a bid to host. Teams still have to do that - I could have seen something odd like that happening to us given our starange history. Anyway, the conference tournament results:America East: Stony Brook 2, UMBC 0Leonardo Fernandes and Raphael Abreu scored to give the 6-9-4 Seawolves a surprise bid to the NCAA Tournament.Atlantic 10: St. Louis 2, Dayton 0Michael Robson and Michael Roach scored for the Billikens in the final.ACC: Virginia 1, NC State 0Will Bates scored the winner and Diego Restrepo recorded the shutout in goal for the Cavaliers.Atlantic Sun: Stetson 2, Mercer 1Griffin Gilstrap scored twice to lead the Hatters to the crown.Big East: St. John's 0, Notre Dame 0 (St. John's advanced on penalties 4-2)St. John's won on penalties after 110 minutes of scoreless play. Richard Smith scored the winner and Austin Harms recorded the shutout in goal.Metro Atlantic: Loyola (MD) 1, Niagara 0Matt Tyrie scored late in overtime to lift the Greyhounds to the win. Kyle Wittman recorded the shutout in goal.MAC: Akron 2, Hartwick 1Darlington Nagbe scored the game-winning goal to give the Zips a perfect 20-0-0 record heading to the NCAA Tournament.Missouri Valley: Drake 2, Evansville 1Kevin Shrout scored the winner for the Bulldogs.Mountain Pacific: Sacramento State 2, New Mexico 2 (Sacramento State advances on penalties, 5-4)Matt Linenberger scored a late equalizer for the Hornets, who then prevailed on penalties.Northeast: Monmouth 2, Quinnipiac 1Chase Barbieri and Ryan Kinne scored for the Hawks to push their record to 18-1-1.Pac-10: UCLA drew with San Diego State 1-1. The Bruins had already won the Pac-10 title. California upset Stanford 1-0 on a Jacob Wilson winner, while Danny Mwanga scored twice in a 3-2 win by Oregon State over Washington.Patriot: Bucknell 1, American 0Brendan Burgdorf scored on a 15th-minute header to lead the Bison to victory.Southern: Wofford 2, Elon 1Wilson Hood and Kentrel Owens scored for the Terriers.Summit: Western Illinois 1, UMKC 0Another title for the Leathernecks as Oskar Gasecki scored the winner and Stephen Paterson recorded a shutout in goal.West Coast: San Diego clinched the regular season title with a scoreless draw against St. Mary's (CA) on Friday, who finishes 2nd.
  20. The #15 seed should be North Carolina St.
  21. They had a #6 RPI, but did not get seeded, so RPI doesn't mean everything. I'm telling everyone I know that the Zips got a #1 seed, regardless of whether they care or not.
  22. Talk about a tough opening round game - Louisville vs. Indiana. I will be rooting for OSU to make the final four as well, I think we match up very well with them and I'd far rather face them than UNC in Raleigh, NC. I want UNC to lose as early as possible. That's looking pretty far ahead though, just one game at a time right? And as far as Notre Dame, even if they survive the opening round (not a given), I don't think they get past Northwestern.
  23. This the revenge tour - we can take out South Florida and then possibly finish off Northwestern in the regional final. Its not a bad draw there are a lot of other teams I'd be a lot more worried about and we avoid all ACC teams until the College Cup. This is the tournmament, we're going to face good teams every game.
  24. That answers that - no Akron conspiracy!
  25. Anyone seeing anything? I just have NFL talking heads on ESPNews.Edit - I just heard them mention it is coming up.
