  1. I'd love to be Sweet Polyanna Purebread Sunshine, but I have to call them as I see them. I can't see the Zips getting it done in Buffalo with a freshman QB starting (much as I like him). Bulls 21 Zips 14 since agreed, neither of us is likely to make a field goal.
  2. You are all ignoring that awful shanked rugby punt in the our very first drive of the OU game. OUR "special" teams are worse, darn it!
  3. Got a few props on their board for the folks we brought down. http://www.techsideline.com/message_board/olympic/I think that's great that some Rowdies were able to make the trip. We earned some respect for not only the victory but a little bit for our support of the team. I know this is thinking way ahead and I "shouldn't" do it, but the College Cup is in Cary, NC this year (last year it was in Dallas) so at least it is within driving distance. I know I will be nervous as heck every single NCAA game. You just don't know what could happen and it is a one and done tournament. I know there is still a lot of season left but I can't wait for the NCAA playoffs to start.
  4. Not much buzz around the Va Tech board over the game tonight. I found one link that just wondered how in the world Akron could be ranked #1? That's about it. I politely let them know that we are very proud of our #1 ranked team and our school.http://www.techsideline.com/message_board/...er/13/47555.php
  5. The graphic above needed just a tiny bit of help.
  6. So how many here think Jared Wackerly should start this week? Show of hands? Bueller ... Bueller ...? I think the quarterback contoversy is now officially closed.
  7. Yep, our conference is killing us. Of course, we have to play the only other two conference opponents with a good ranking - Hartwick and NIU - both at home fortunately.
  8. After looking at their schedule I really don't understand it. That schedule not only not enough to overcome their record, it's not even better than ours on it's own at this point (and they only have five away games the whole year - we've almost matched that in the past two weeks). We play just as tough a Big Ten schedule as they do (and most of theirs haven't been played yet either). It's a conspiracy, I tells ya.09/01/09 at Green Bay Green Bay, Wis. 9. We are at #2. How in the heck is Northwestern #1? That sticks in the craw. http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2009MSOrpi1.html
  10. On topic #2, see this thread.http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?showtopic=15350
  11. Looks like there is a possibility the audio may be broadcast via the VATECH web site at http://www.hokiesports.com/msoccer/schedule/. Click on all-acess (you may have to update Microsoft Silverlight) but it looks like they may be doing a free broadcast.
  12. Man, I really would have liked to have gone to this one. But Blacksburg is almost as far a drive as coming back to Akron is. And with it being a weeknight game, guess it's gamecast for me (sigh).
  13. First Rydell Brooks, then this kid. Although it said he was going to transfer to play basketball I never heard anything at all about it, so perhaps he was planning to transfer and then take a chance at walking on. Never heard anything from the team about plans to do so. Sad anytime someone that young dies, especially under those circumstances.
  14. Z.I.P., not quite sure where you're getting your information from, but Scott hasn't started a game this year, let alone played all 90 minutes. He has gotten some significant time in a few games, but not very many. Are you sure you are not confusing him with Chad Barson? (also a freshman, but a defender whom we don't hear a lot about, who almost never comes out of a game).
  15. Top Drawer soccer has him on their team of the week.http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soc.../Ten-Out-Ten-InCollege Soccer News ignored him entirely. The rest of the teams aren't out yet.
  16. Yep, I love this team - I don't know that I have ever looked forward to the Zips basketball season quite so much. This is a class group of individuals (which is why it seems like Zeke fits in so well), KD has really put something together to be proud of. And they have their tent up every week when there is a home football game, they always show up at the games. Stop in and say hi, they are a very welcoming group. Can't wait for this season to get started.
  17. In another year I might suggest what we did a few years ago when we did recruit a soccer player (I think his first name was Jon but I can't really remember now) to our kicker but with the way the soccer has gone I do not want to cahnge anything to make even the slighest perturbation in the program. Now if the football team was 4-1 and had just lost the frontline kicker to injusry, maybe. I know some may be thinking we could use a little used reserve but I want that team's total focus on their game. Go Futboler's!
  18. 14 plays, 62 yards, no points!
  19. Looks like BGSU just beat Can't on a TD with 5 seconds left in the game.
  20. Are we sure we wouldn't be better off with Matt Rodgers at running back?
  21. No one is in the chat room and most folks I suspect are at the game so I thought I'd at least try to get one going.Wonderful start - a shanked punt, a fumble and an interception on our first three drives. We're lucky we're not down 21-0.
  22. I don't know why I bother to ask these questions if I'm just going to look them up and answer them myself, but the answer is not only games with consecutive points, but consecutive games with at least one goal is Pete Milich in 1960 who scored a goal in an incredible 16 straight games which is still the NCAA record. He still ranks among the top 15 in the NCAA record books in 13 categories to this day. Wow.He also holds the school record for goals in a game with 7. I'd never read the Zips soccer media guide but there is a lot of interesting stuff in it like in 1961- Defeated defending NCAA Champion St. Louis, 3-2, at the Rubber Bowl in front of 10,000 spectators as part of the Acme-Zip spectacular. That season five of 11 All-Ohio selections were from Akron. So I guess our Jackson field record crowds this year aren't as impressive as I thought.
  23. Nanchoff had an assist on one of Ampai's goals. Eight straight games with at least one point for him. I wonder what the Akron record is.
  24. That horse is alive and kicking. I don't get tired of hearing about it.
  25. Central is killing EMU, 49-0 in the 3rd.Miami down 16-0 to Northwestern.Ball State losing to Temple 10-0. Has any team ever gone from 12-0 one year to 0-12 the next (or any year undefeated in the regular season to winning no games the next year)? Ball State has a shot.
