  1. And according to the NCAA payouts database that uakronkid pointed us to, Toledo picked up a half million dollars to enjoy the pleasure. Man, how bad is Michigan?
  2. In any other year, this would worry me about playing Toledo. Not this year. Has the Rich Rodriguez firing clock started yet? You should see their boards right now.
  3. Zips Win! 2-0, Tutich with a goal with about 5 minutes left. One futbol down, one to go!
  4. On the bright side, however, if you are going to be penalized by the NCAA for something like this, in a way it's lucky it happened in a year when you are also nursing an injury and might not have been able to play anyway. Hopefully, this motivates the young man and obviously he'll be smarter next year so all is not lost. The statement he made seems to indicate that. Be cool to see him on the field on September 19th next year.
  5. You know what is really great about this "dumb question"? It really gives an opportunity to show off the pride in the school now. While some people may have always been proud of the association, for others it was just the only alternative available, the old "Hilltop High". When I attended it was all about money, my parents and I just didn't have any and while I was accepted to a lot of schools I couldn't pull quite enough scholarship money to make it worthwhile to attend, but I did get an honors scholarship to Akron (for anyone that was in the program in the early 80's, do you remember we had a special room in the library we could use, now they have a whole beautiful freaking dorm ). Anyway my point is that despite being at "Hilltop High" the education I got of Akron was very good and an incredible value. I actually came out of college with money. I got my Masters Degree from Johns Hopkins and I do not have anyhting negative to say about them but as far as bang for the buck, Akron was far superior and I've done very well in my life with that degree in my pocket. So there is the real value of the school, however, I am ecstatic about the changes on campus (I got a call for a donation this week and I ante'd up right away ). "Hilltop High" is dead, if it was like this in the 80's I would have wanted to attend instead of just feeling I "had to". We used to have a joke when I was there about Akron being the largest unknown University in the United States. No more! Hats off to Dr. Proenza & co., there are people with some vision. As one last aside, my nephew went to school with one of the current soccer players. He thought he was nuts to attend Akron until he made his own little visit to campus. I tell everyone I can about the University now. It has and will become even more well known as a fine place to go to school. Go Zips! (and now bring back the wrestling team, dammit!)
  6. If you haven't seen it yet, there is a guy who is now doing a monthly blog on the Stadium at GoZips.com. Here is the link http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPS...;ATCLID=1597514By the way one of the ABJ Trolls referred the the Stadium as InfoPrison - I like it - Take No Prisoners!
  7. There are a ton of really interesting statistics at the NCCA web site:http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/mainpage.jspIt shows Jacq at 64th in passing efficiency and 40th in total offense. That's really not that bad, but its good that our expectations are to the point that that is not good enough. Still a heck of a lot better than last year. Also, to show how statistics can get skewed, would anyone have guessed Syracuse is tied for the national lead in Red Zone efficiency at 100%? They have only gotten in there 12 times (compared to our 24) but they have 8 touchdowns and 4 field goals. I never would have guessed that one.
  8. They gutted out a tough win 2-1 over Oakland (who made the NCAA tournament last year) last night and are back up to #4 in the NSCAA/Adidas poll:http://www.ncaa.com/soccer-mens/default.php?id=392After the futbol team thumps BUGS out west on Saturday, the football team can stomp their counterparts back home. Good day for BUGS crushing.
  9. Never mind - the BGSU team bus has been spotted, rolling out of Western Ohio toward civilization.
  10. Any "Heat Miser" reference is golden IMO!That got me thinking in a little more abstract sense. How about.....The BG Logo of Just a Few Years AgoAnd The Partridge Family Logo?Plus, we have Corey Partridge represented above - not quite Keith, but still close enough. The circle is complete - we've cracked the BGSU code. I've heard Gregg Brandon's real name is Rueben Kincaid. He had to assume an alias to coach at BGSU (part of the witness protection program where they banish you to the middle of nowhere). Has anyone seen their team bus?
  11. There are plenty on the "waiting list" and the Can't-OU game is the "Pillow Fight of the Week". but I can't remember another time when not a single MAC team was in the official Bottom Ten. So at least we got that going for us. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=bottom10086

  15. USF's football program only STARTED in 1997 at the 1-AA level, then they were an independent for a short time and were in conference USA for a little bit before joining the Big East. If you want a school model to follow, there is the one that should be studied.
  16. I don't think the Big East is any more realistic at this point than any other conference. If I got my wish list and I could join any conference quite honestly it would be the Big Ten. That would be awesome. They need a 12th member anyway, right?
  17. Even though all of this is way too far out to project, the answer to this particular question is no. This is exactly the sitaution Miami found themselves in last year and were not bowl eligible - you must have at least six wins and be at or above .500.
  18. Speaking of Jalil Carter, did anyone see the pics on GoZips.com of the game where they had this shot of him leaping to block Can't's final field goal? I think the only reason he missed blocking it was because it was so far right? Man, what an athlete. http://uaim.dyndns.info/photo_galleries/_A...e/100408640.htmLink doesn't seem to work so here is the photo I was referring to.

  20. By the way, nice call.
  21. Chase Blackburn also had 5 tackles.
  22. over 25ypc, and he scores often.... after this and the showing in that pre-season game, he has shined in limited playing time.I dunno why NY staff doesn't wake up and give him more PTHe finished with that stat line receiving, and also had one carry for 15 yards, I also saw on a halftime show just now that Michael Strahan predicted Hixon would score a touchdown today, then they showed the touchdown and it was a heck of a catch. Maybe he turns this year into a big payday. Hixon fieldhouse, anyone?
  23. Still think you are too hard on Igor. He has hit 75% of his field goals and missed one extra point (the stats say he's missed two, but one was the block at Cincinnati that was not his fault). I think that is a very acceptable rate for a college kicker. Yeah he missed an important field goal vs Cinci, but I think that given his season of work, he is far from a crappy kicker. Considering what we've had recently, he's a godsend.

  25. While that's true, there have been only two home games and they were against what is arguably the best team in the MAC and a pretty good Big East team, so the fact that the wins have been on the road should be encouraging. I'm not ready to put us into the good category, but in the weaker East, we definitely have a shot. "Worst" to first?
