  1. Completely, but that's why I said its all we've got right now.
  2. Then their season is almost certainly over. You can drop one off that 21 wins every year for the last X amount of years. Now its just us, Kansas, Duke and Gonzaga. Hey it may not be much but it's all we've got right now.
  3. Generally been the most fun time of the year for Zips fans recently having made at least the semifinals for the last ten years. Does the streak continue this year? Noon at the Q. Comment from Elton Alexander on EMU: And Akron's quarterfinal matchup against No. 8 Eastern Michigan is a dangerous one, considering the Eagles were considered one of the preseason conference favorites with one of the deepest rosters and most veteran talent in the league. That may be so but with all that talent they're still the eight seed. I think it might be mental toughness with this group. And without looking down the road too far should the Zips win this tournament they will have the all time winningest Zips basketball season.
  4. I could have seen them giving it to Saul Phillips for getting to the second seed after losing last years POY. But it wasn't like it they were that far out in front of everyone else since there was a four way tie for second and the Zips won the conference by three games. I think that's Keith's third in the last five years though so glad to see him getting recognition for the great job he has been doing. And I think Big Dog is only the second POY under Keith? Travis being the first? And who the hell voted for Senderoff to finishing below expectations?
  5. Would have been so cool to have done it after a win over Miami (or anyone at the JAR). But maybe it helps focus the team.
  6. And they beat us this year. And the Horizon Championship is on ESPN right now.- they could be represented by a 12-23 team.
  7. I like when writers explain their rationale like that. Even if I disagree with some of his choices I can't argue his process. One small thing though you might have just posted a snippet and linked to it to get him additional hits? (assuming that's the business model of the Messenger).
  8. And chalk it is. I'd be OK if the whole tournament goes that way.
  9. And with a few conference tournament upsets the Zips are back up to a 13 seed. Need to take care of business in our own conference tournament. Could give a damn now who we play 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Even with a few hiccups the Zips are the best team in the conference and its not close. Now go prove it! If any other MAC team wins it they are a 14 or worse.
  10. This is a great idea. If someone wants to put this together I'm in for $50.
  11. That's about as appropriate a night for Fred to go as he could have picked (and maybe he did). Only met him a few times but he absolutely loved the Zips. RIP GoZips. :-(
  12. Everyone's a winner however only Blue&Gold (wait wrong envelope :-)), actually only 1981grad got all three right. Congrats! Zips win, Big Dog, Noah, Jimond and Emmanuel O. scored 40 to Kwan, Antino, Josh and TDM's 16 and the Zips surprisingly hit only 8 three pointers.
  13. While that's true do you know how many of those 8 teams finished above .500 in the conference? 1
  14. Akron Zips (23-7, 13-4 MAC) at Kent State (18-12, 10-7 MAC) Friday, March 3 • James A. Rhodes Arena Kent, Ohio • 9:00 p.m. ET TV/Video: ESPN2 – Kevin Fitzgerald (PxP), Chris Spatola (Analyst) Live Stats: GoZips.com/Schedule - Live Stats Radio: Akron-IMG Sports Network - Steve French (PxP) and Joe Dunn (Analyst) WARF 1350 AM (flagship), iHeart Radio, TuneIn.com/Akron Zips All-Time Series Kent State Leads: 74-72 One of the few MAC teams we do not have an all time winning record against. Lets start evening it back up tonight. There is a very real possibility that the Flashes could drop to the sixth seed with a loss and also a possibility for them to float as high as the second seed if they win. Lets bury them as deep as possible. They are currently a five seed 9and would likely fall to six if the Zips and Ball State both win) so lets help them start the tourney at home.
  15. The last time we won at Kent was during Zeke's senior season 2012-2013. We had actually beaten Kent five straight times at that point including a coupe at their place and a couple in the MACC. Sneaking suspicion the Zips pull this one out tonight and drop the Flashes to the sixth seed.
  16. I think you got it juuust right baby bear
  17. Quickly, wild rampant speculation. UConn and one other school has been granted football membership.
  18. Elton wrote a story on the current state of the MAC. He correctly points out that the Zips might not be the favorites at this point which perhaps is valid. However, his claim for the frontrunners are Western Michigan (who could very possibly not even get one of the top fours seeds - but I hope they do get #4 because it helps us) - or EMU because they have won two in a row convincingly after losing seven straight. They aren't even likely to get a home game in the first round. The East still beat the West 27-21 this year (and six of those West victories were over Miami), so I don't think the West has quite overtaken the East just yet. The Zips were 8-0 against the West.
  19. Something I didn't realize. It was of course Senior Night for six MAC schools and every one of them lost. The road team won all six games yesterday. And really as far as an NCAA tournament run goes it really depends on a few things. A little bit is the seed but more importantly is the matchup and how well you play that particular day. If you're not part of a major basketball conference it's a tough road. Some schools turn it into something (like Gonzaga and VCU), but more often than not its just a fun experience for a bit. Is George Mason dominating the A-10? (they are 8-8). Have Kent and Ohio turned into the dominant programs in the MAC after their run? Oh wait no that's us. I'd love to see an NCAA tournament run as much as anyone but in the long run its probably not going to mean that much. I just hate seeing it put out there as the Holy Grail that a coach must achieve to be considered a success. 10 straight years of making at least the MACC semifinals and 7 in a row in the final? How many other "smaller conference" schools can make that claim? So if we happen to pull off an upset (and it will always be an upset) in the NCAA tournament suddenly Dambrot will be a great coach? I think he's a great coach now.
  20. Everyone take a deep breath and calm down, That sucked but its over and we still are MAC champs and still have a good shot in the MACC tournament. I still think we can go into Kent and beat them. If Ohio and Buffalo pull out wins and we can beat Kent, it keeps them out of a top four seed. If Ball State and WMU both win at home it would drop the Flashes to the sixth seed. That would be a nicely set up tournament so there is still plenty to play for but yeah I think we're looking a at 14 seed if we can reach the NCAA tournament or a 6 or 7 seed in the NIT. Even if we lose to Kent we're not going to be a 15 or 16 seed. Buffalo, Kent, OU, WMU and Ball State are all tied for second in the MAC at 10-7. Since none of them play each other each has a chance to be anything from the 2 to the sixth seed.
  21. First he isn't a senior and second looking at it objectively he played much better than he has recently.
  22. Doesn't change the seeding at all but what a terrible effort
  23. If I was Miami I definitely would have fouled BD.
  24. I don't know who that ball went off of but how about the foul for Weathers slamming into Antino
