  1. I would not expect a large number at the last game of the year. Students gone, holiday weekend, busiest shopping day.Time to get very creative for that Wednesday night Ohio game. Lots of giveways I suppose.
  2. I'm glad that WMU got their apology so quickly from the MAC office. I'm sure our apology for the Miami BB game should be arriving anyday now.
  3. Some actually do affect the stadium. Looking at the renderings - The Odd Corner, Bob-o-Louie's (which I believe we already have) and the tanning salon sit where the ticket office and main gate are to be. The other businesses look to be in the way of finishing the design where the dorms/academic buildings sit. The problem is that we are going to need that dorm space. With the current growth and the expectations brought on by this new stadium, rooms will be at a premium.
  4. I understand that some landlords have been giving students in the rental properties on Nash and Thompson Ct. notices to be out as early as mid-month. The dorm students have 24 hours following their last final to vacate so that is mid December. When will the matter of the hold out businesses be addressed? I have to imagine the way the courts allow for delays and appeals it could drag on for months.
  5. I heard it live Saturday night and have replayed it a dozen times today and it still is as exciting. I'm already pumped up for Saturday night. It is hard to believe that some of the powers to be running the AD's office back in the mid 90's wanted to run French for just that type of call. I love having a "fan" calling the game.Keep it up Steve!
  6. Considering the performances we have seen up to this point from our quarterbacks, I have to ask how bad was Hakes?C7 has plenty of ability and athleticism but lacks leadership and according to JD grades out poorly.C11 clearly lacks play making ability and doesn't handle pressure well. What was Sean lacking that he failed to beat or at least be in the mix to compete with these two?Not hating here - just wondering. Will be making the roadie to Kalamazoo and hoping to see some offense.
  7. Don't get so excited about the ABJ's coverage. Remember that OSU played and finished late so they needed to lay out the front page well before the game was over. The space OSU got was directly tied to deadlines and not the ABJ coming around to the home team.
  8. $$$$$$$$$$$$$The state of Florida has pumped millions of dollars into bought USF and UCF over the past decade improving and growing every aspect of their campuses. We are now seeing the results. Also good weather helps.
  9. Bobby - That is a bold statement. I assume you have proof. If not, then don't say it. If so, please contact me off the board and I will help to address the behavior with the concerned Fraternities.
  10. Good morning Zips Fans.Zippy is back on top but needs to stay there over the next 2 hours so get in your last votes for week 2 before 9 AM and beat Hokie Bird.
  11. Zip 81 -You are a true gentleman, scholar, and fan to volunteer and take one for the nation like that.
  12. Simple...1. Thank your wife for picking up the keg but explain to her she should have gotten 2. 2. Let her make it up by going out and getting you a 6 pack to tide you over until tomorrow.
  13. Trust me on voting early and often. I'm having trouble keeping track of all my nicknames. Current count is 35 - all voting daily.
  14. Great Job Nation! Zippy is back ahead of Hokie Bird. Now let's pull away from him.Remember the voting goes until Monday morning at 9:00 A.M. so you can vote for Zippy in this weeks match up and then again after 9:00 for next week.BTW - Thursday @ 2:35 P.M. and
  15. We are not going to turn others around until we buy into Akron ourselves. Last week at Ohio St., I ran into people from Akron wearing OSU gear. Even saw a student who works at the JAR in an OSU jersey. I had a fight with my own sister who has 2 degrees from Akron because she found it necessary to also wear buckeye earrings with her Akron shirt. My brother-in-law also is an Akron grad and yet they let my nephew go to the game wearing an OSU jersey. Mind you, it is hard and pointless to fight with a 4 year old if thats what he wants to wear when all you want to do is have a good day watching football. But the point is that this mind set that OSU is "The" team to root for as a resident of Ohio is ingrained. We are the ones coming late to the party (DIA since 1986). The battle will be tough but we clearly are gaining ground or we wouldn't have the hundreds of rants on this site about it.What we need to do to kick start what we wish to see happen - servers or others in Zips gear at our favorite game watching venues is to take shirts to them. Come together as a nation, pick out a spot we are going to hit for the game, and take Zips gear with us and ask them to wear them or take our $$$$ elsewhere. Rome wasn't built in a day. But hopefully our stadium is built in less than 2 years.Keep voting for Zippy. Let's go Zips today and bring us that Big 10+1 win we should have got last week.
  16. Maybe we could put it somewhere in the stadium between the locker room and field and the players could touch it before taking the field.
  17. With the new stadium, there are numerous things that can be planned for game day and set to become a tradition.1. The Players Walk - If they eat the pre-game meal at either the Student Union or The University Club, there should be a walk to the stadium through campus.2. Band and cheerleaders pre-pre-game at Schrank Field with a march over to the stadium. If the players do eat at the Student Union, they and the coaches could easily walk by Schrank Field for this - similar to the Big 10+1 school to the south stopping by the Least Darn Group of Musicians in Ohio pre-game event.3. A first down cheer of - "GO ZIPS" each time we get one.4. JD has started a great tradition with having the team sing the Fight Song with the band after each home game. Keep it up and hopefully add a more voices of fans who stay for 4 full quarters of football. At least in the new stadium the seats will be more comfortable to last the 3 hours.Just a quick thought - Many more to come.
  18. Check Out E-BAYClock - Item# 280114305912Rug - Item# 160153258934Just type in Akron in the search. There is a lot of cool stuff out there.
  19. I bought an Akron Bean Bag last year from a furniture store on 91 about a 1/2 mile down from 224 on the right heading towards Springfield Plaza. I don't remember the name "Bedroom" something I think. As for the clock, check out e-bay. Just search University of Akron and you should find it. There are always different styles available go keep watching if you want this certain one.I also have a smaller version of the rug shown. I got that at "Uniquely Ohio" in Hudson. The store is located in the Shops on Main in downtown. They carry a lot of Ohio schools stuff - Both the Big 10+1 school and MAC schools. Wish they had more Akron though.I also have a wooden wall plaque of the combined A/Rood Head like in the upper left corner of this site. Found it last years Yankee Peddler event.Hope this helps.
  20. I remember my first day of classes in 87. I saw a kid get hit by a car on Buchtel Ave. right in front of the library. Scared me for years. Just to be safe, I avoided the library at all costs.
  21. Didn't we also have a punter - I think his name was Bill Rudison - who was one of the top 5 in the country.
  22. It was John Clark. He sold a combination of tylenol and Exceed (a weight gain supplement actually supplied to him from the trainers) to an undercover cop at the gas station on Exchange and Brown. The best was that at the time Gerry was shocked that he was involved in this. Everybody knew he was dealing, he wore his pager on his uniform belt during practice. He was part of the Southern Florida group that also include Odel Robbins.I put a vote in for Chris Counahan as a Special Teams Player. He was on every coverage and return team and always busting the wedge or flying down the field to lay someone out.
  23. Real simple. The speed at which a new arena is needed and built rests solely in the hands (or should I say butts in the seats) of the students. Until we start to see 1,500 - 2,000 students on average for every game, the current arena is adequate. Until students, who have free admission to the games, don't have enough seating to accomodate them along with the "paying" customers, why expand. The things that drive new construction on other campuses don't seem to be the same here. The move to 1A football should have dictated a new stadium - not @ UA. It finally got to a last resort because they are sure to soon condemn the Bowl. Probably sometime in Nov. 08 just minutes after Kevin O'Connor carries out the last pair of shoulder pads. A new arena should have been fast tracked the day Romeo and Dru stepped on to this campus. With the excitement they brought from the community with their connection to LeBron, it would have been the perfect time. It would have opened 2 years ago as LeBron's popularity was really starting to climb and would been the host site for this summer's Nike elite camp. A long shot would be to land a kid from that camp here but I guarantee a first class arena combined with the other facilities and campus improvements we would get second looks. Especially kids who late in the process have their stocks drop or kids who come forward late in their development.
  24. Admission to the University use to mean you spent the first 2 or so years in The University College completing general requirements and the pre-reqs. for admission to the degree granting colleges - A&S, Business, Engineering, Nursing, F&AA, Education. Now students who acheive a high test score on the ACT or SAT combined with a high GPA from high school can get "direct admission" to these colleges. They still spend the first 2 years completing general courses and pre-reqs.It is a way to attract quality students away from other schools who have limited spaces and are highly competitive for admission to there degree granting colleges.Students are still expected to maintain a minimum GPA for that individual college.
