  1. Yes to the public. I work with one of the groups that will be in attendance and were told to plan that date and time for the announcement.
  2. Buzz is there will be an announcement August 1 @ Noon on campus.Full Blown Event Administration, Trustees, Corporate Contributors, Alumni, Media, Band, Cheerleaders, and Zippy!
  3. I have spoken to Manny regarding this and his posistion is that he has been on the strip for 25 years operating his business and serving the university's students. His children are graduates of UA. He wants to stay on Exchange and does not have problems leaving his current location but wants the University's and city's help to secure another location across the street on the strip.
  4. Glad to see all of this finally moving along. I posted back on April 19 about the Quaker Square deal. I find it interesting that the hotel and banquet center has in the past few months changed management and is now being run by Rennick Andreoli and his staff who own the Akron West Hilton and Four Point Sheraton. Corporate sponsers of the zips.
  5. What about a Lake v. River / North v. South in state classic pitting UA, Can't State, Xavier, and Cincinnati in an event played alternating years Cincinnati / Cleveland and opponents. Possibly couple it with a similar high school type event and match ups on Friday night and make a weekend event out of it.
  6. Here are some items I have heard regarding the stadium and the properties.Yes there is some hold out from the bar owners. They are willing to move but want assistance with finding locations on the other side of Exchange St.The loss of dorm space is an immediate concern (losing 4 dorms), Solution - the purchase and renovation of the Quaker Square hotel. This deal is apparently very close to being finalized.Lastly, the stadium will be open for 2009 due to money earmarked from the state for the project needing to be spent by that deadline.
  7. It's the same stadium as Central Michigan has.
  8. Two of his main job duties as I see it are to help MAC teams schedule better competition and to promote the conference and teams for post-season play.Well, He is 0-3 when it comes to Akron Basketball.Bracket Buster ----- Austin Peay ----- FailedNCAA Tourney ------ FailedNIT -------- Failed
  9. I just left a message for Assistant MAC Commissioner Rick Boyages - Director of Men's Basketball Operations and found it ironic that while waiting for it to connect to his extension - faintly the background music was the Akon Fight Song.
  10. No matter how bad the MAC F'd us last night or the cost associated. I can't believe KD, MAC, or Proenza would ever turn down an opportunity for post-season play that this group of young men have earned to prove a point.Actually I think it would be the opposite and we take every opportunity to prove the MAC and NCAA wrong and get the Akron name and successes out there.
  11. Be sure to call the NIT office as well and ask them why we weren't included>212-425-6510Or e-mail John Powers - He is responsible for participating schools. jpowers@nccc.org
  12. We definately need something to begin attracting the older kids to Zips Athletics. Zippy's Kids is great for toddlers but let's face it, by the time a kid gets to be about 8 years old, they know that
  13. Great Job today Zippy. As for the condition of the costume, we have several and yes one is brand new. I suspect todays was one of the old ones. With several individuals performing as Zippy and at mulitple functions, we are constantly rotating costumes to be cleaned.Rest assured, the last thing we want is for Zippy to look worn. At future games, we will make a point to be curtain Zippy is looking his best.
  14. First let me state my background so that my following post will be taken as credible.I was a cheerleader for 4 years and then worked in the AD's office for several years. I am currently still working with the cheerleaders and have been lending my knowledge as an advisor to the AK Rowdies officers for the past month.1. The incident on Saturday was unfortunate, but necessary. The wearing of the AK Rowdy Official 2006 T-shirt is a way to identify you as a current member. The seats behind the baskets are reserved for such individuals. The AK Rowdies have been given the honor and responsibility to fill these seats with their members. Trust me. These were not always reserved for students and I guarantee you that these seats would fetch full price + a minimum donation if made available to the public.2. There has been at least a dozen opportunities to this point to pick up T-shirts but yet many still remain unclaimed. The officers of the AK Rowdies have also been very accomodating to members who have contacted them and have attempted to make an alternative time and place to get their shirt. To the individual from Saturday, the importance of having your shirt ahead of time must have been known since you were with friends who had theirs and they would have known such. 3. The 600+ AK Rowdies have yet to fill the areas reserved for them behind the baskets but yet are complaining about the band being there. At least they are there and not just waiting for the Zips to play a good team or a conference opponent to show up. It has been said that we are not Duke or any other of the big programs with great student sections. Of course not with the apathy we show. The 2 sections behind the baskets should be full for every men's and women's game whether we play Can't St or the 6th grade team from PS109. 4. Lastly, if you don't like how anything is being done with the organization, you are welcome to bring your concerns to the Tommy Evans Lounge in the JAR on Wednesday at 5:00 or e-mail to the AK Rowdies officers, they will be addressed. Otherwise, stop complaining because 1. Fellow students stepped up to help organize a group that benefits the University, and 2. They enforced the rules that the members of the group agreed to abide by and entrusted them to enforce.Good Luck on your finals. GO ZIPS!!!!
  15. I will give it to ESPN for their sideline reporting last night. They could see the potential for a game winning field goal being the deciding factor and got the insight from the BG kicker regarding his range and preferences. With that, BG's coach should be fired for not getting the ball to the left hash mark - where the kicker said he was more comfortable from and where it was dry. Instead, they went with a pass on 3rd down with the QB rolling to the left - incomplete. Bring the ball back to the center of the field in 3 inches of mud and let the freshman give it a try. Ooops, he slipped. Wounded duck low and left. Also, during the 4th quarter brought to you by the OSU/Michigan game, Lou Holtz did take a moment to praise both teams and coaches for such a hard fought game. He knows what type of football gets played in the MAC.As for the records blounder, looks like some intern or administrative assistant is looking for work today.
  16. DISAGREE - Great call by the official. I was standing right there and the BG receiver put his hands square to the face of our DB to push off and create space to catch the pass. Both the back judge and the side judge threw flags so it was a pretty clear call.
  17. The picture of the stadium you see is nothing more than a basic artists rendering from the University's planning department. It is the cover page for the stdium design specifications and requirements.I have spoken to a contractor who did extensive work on Browns Stadium. Jacob's Field, and the Gund/Q and he said this is looking to be every bit of a first class effort by Akron.
  18. Can that traitor Svetlik be expelled? He'll probably won't do well in college anyways. He has yet to learn that
  19. 11:00 P.M --- News flush --- All stations reporting that
  20. Please burn the blue pants. They have been a curse on the program dating back to 88 when Gerry unveiled them at YSU.
  21. I saw where there is a large football kickoff / pep rally sponsored by Sheetz at the Penn St. Stadium tonight. Just hoping they take care of the field.
  22. Do you keep the field tarped? Also, will they curtail tonights pep rally activities and protect the field?
  23. If they were "On The Hunt" for gopher, maybe they should of had Carl the Greenskeeper coaching last night.
  24. A few things that will improve our quality of opponents willing / wanting to come to Akron.1. Stadium Improvements - This is clearly being addressed. Slowly, but we know a new stadium is coming.2. Zip Alumni heading to other schools. It sucks that we lose good coaches and administrators to other schools, but it adds credibility to our program. More importantly, we have people who are receptive to talk to us about scheduling their school on our schedule. 3. Continue the support that began last season. Larger programs will be more receptive to schedule us a home and home if they know we will travel like we did for last years MCB. It is all about selling tickets. I'm sure Penn St. is a little taken back that the game has yet to sell out.
  25. For an added bonus, do it as Ben Curtis - former Can't St. golfer sinks a putt or better yet - shanks one.
