Here is a breakdown of who is left of potentially bowl eligible teams, their remaining opponents, and what they must do to finish .500. There are 68 possible bowl slots with 62 teams already bowl eligible.Akron - Must win at Temple or the whole thing is mute.BGSU - Win @ ToledoUTEP - Win @ E. CarolinaSouthern Miss - Win @ SMUMemphis- Win v. TulaneLouisville - Win @ RutgersHawaii - Win v. Wash St. and CincinnatiAuburn - Win @ AlabamaColorado - Win @ NebraskaClemson - Win v. South CarolinaNC St. - Win v. Miami(FL)Virginia - Win @ VA TechUCLA - Win @ Arizona St. and v. USCArizona St. - Win v. UCLA and @ ArizonaThe balance of teams are out of the Sun Belt Conference - My hope is that we would get an invite over any of these teams who also finish 6-6LA Lafayette v. MTSU * Winner is bowl eligibleArkansas St - Win @ N. Texas and TroyFLA Atlantic - Win v FLA InternationalFLA International - Win @ FLA Atlantic and v. W. KentuckyOf this list I would say Southern Miss and Memphis are very likely to win.BGSU, UTEP, Louisville, Clemson, and Arizona St are 50/50Rule out Hawaii, Auburn, Colorado, NC ST, Virginia, and UCLA

Don't we need to win 2 more games to be bowl eligible. A win next week makes us 6-4 and up on Buffalo to win the east. We could lose the last 2 weeks and with Buffalo and BG losses in any of their last 2 games we would be the east champ @ 6-6. A loss in Detroit would make us 6-7 and staying home.

It is all about scheduling what is important to you. I am getting married this Saturday and we chose that day only AFTER the football schedule was posted. Would not even consider missing the last game at the Bowl.

The 150 were the number of students who had returned their housing contract and were guaranteed a room. They had to turn away all the students who returned their deposits after the deadline - not sure of the number but I would guess significant based on 1. the # of students who make late decisions on a college, and 2. that many 18 year olds are not always understanding of the idea of a firm deadline.I also believe that the University relaxed a rule that freshman living outside of the neighboring 4 counties must live in on campus housing.Combine all of this with the regular growth we have been seeing each of the last several years and I think the dorms will be filled with little effort. Of course, you have to wonder what will happen to college enrollment in this wonderful economic crisis we find our country in.

Entry into the Capital One Mascot Competition is by invitation upon receipt of the application packet. U of A did not enter Zippy in the competition this year.It is very clear though that many out their "Fear the Roo" though. A mascot, who Zippy beat down last year and is in the competition again, contacted Zippy for advice. He also tried to make him a deal that involved mobilizing Zipsnation into voting for him this year. Also a certain administrator that this board knows well from a school in southern Ohio asked Zippy if they would be interested in helping them promote their mascot for the competition next year.

GP1, Mack is not likely to hike out of Zippyland until he pulls off the really big deal. With the Big East due to realign after the 2010 football season and Akron and a few other schoolsworking to position themselves to gain one of the new conference memberships about to be offered,do not look for Mack Rhoades to skedaddle until he gets the Zips into the Big East or C-USA.C-USA will have at least one open membership when Memphis jumps to the Big East. C-USA is aback up for Akron if they do not get admitted to the Big East.At any rate, a jump up in conference affiliation along with building a stadium looks really good on one's resume. If he pulled this off, why would he leave? His next step from Akron would be to a Big East or C-USA school. If we become one, why wouldn't he stay and prove himself for several years developing Akron into a force in the new conference and then take off for a "power" conference school.

Quote "As a writer who has to cover this game..."No you don't. If you are so against everything college football rivalries are about, quit reporting and writing about college football. -

Their graduates are always nice enough to ask me "Would you like fries with that?". -
Here is a thought to help the running back shortage we are currently experiencing.Have Bryan Williams take some snaps at RB again. He should still know the basic offense and is more than a capable back.Problem with that of course is that he plays defense. Why not run more of the 4 DL sets to combat the running ability of Edelman and you'll be able to give Bryan more breathers on D since you aren't playing 5 DB's all the time.

If only we could go back to the hiring of Lee Owens and redo it. Bob Stoops was an applicant for the job at the time.

Didn't rain the entire second half. Ball St. managed to get good penetration and was in the passing lanes all day. Tipped passes non stop. I want to say 3 of the int's were off tips.

The NCAA only allows a 6th year if you lose 2 years of playing time to injury. Sitting out a transfer year would count as his "red shirt" year.
-
My understanding is that first you must submit an application to be chosen for the competition. It might not be Capital One fearung Zippy but rather UA not sending in the paperwork.
-
When 45% of your defense is playing 8-10 yards off the ball, you don't get a lot of chances for tackles at the LOS. Gotta love the 3-3-5. By the way, I haven't seen it stated on the board in quite a while but it's Friday and Can't State still SUCKS!

It still doesn't include Manny's Pub and Aroma/Chopstix. The parking lot is settled though.

UA may end effort to acquire properties for dorm
flipthezip replied to bigham78's topic in Akron Zips Football
A couple of questions if any one may know the answers. Is the parking lot that we would need to pay $1 mil for the lot outside Manny's, Aroma, and Chopstix? If so, can just the parking lot be purchased but UA walk away from buying the actual buildings?Lastly, if this is the case, how long would people continue to frequent these establishments if the cost to park was charged at $85 per square foot? -

Does anyone know what the time frame is for the completion of the outdoor living room? I'm getting married in Nov. and want to take pictures on campus and would love it if that setting was completed. -
The building is useless to UA and coudn't get torn down fast enough. With the parking deck across the street and at EJ plus a relative proximity to the current athletic facilities, it would be a great site for a new arena.
-
I think we will have sell outs every game after UA implents a change to the academic course load. Football 101. A course taken each Fall by all enrolled students with only 1 course requirement for an "A" - attendance at all home games.Students showing promise will be eligible to enroll in other courses. Basketball 101, Soccer 101, Volleyball 101, etc.

Women's Basketball - 5 are leaving - Finally in Beacon

I hope that Coach Kest is talking to her recruits on the phone regularly as well. That would be a sure fire way to see any red flags. And even that's not enough. You have to remember though...Coach Kest isn't doing ALL of the recruiting...she has assistants too. Of course, I'm sure she has the final say in things. The point I'm making is...with so many different positions to recruit for, she can't do all of the recruiting herself. And I'm sure it is hard for her to know each recruit personally because there probably isn't enough time in the day to do that. So...she probably puts alot of trust in her assistants to help her out with that. And if you ever read Pat Summitt's book "Reach for the Summitt", you would know she doesn't put up with ANYTHING. Most winningest coach in basketball ever...I think if any coach followed Summitt they can't go wrong.I can appreciate that Coach kest is busy and may not be able to spend as much time getting to know all the recruits as well as she would like during the early stages of the recruiting process. But once it becomes clear that a young lady is a definate possibilty for the offering of a scholarship, she needs to be very involved in getting to know that recruit. It's not as if we making a large # of offers. -

I fully support Coach Kest in the way see is handling "her" program (as long as the growth continues). Further, I believe Mack would not have allowed these players to be dismissed if he believed the issues were borderline or in a grey area. What my real concern is that we seem to keep getting all these "whiners" and "malcontents". These girls all supposedly have bad attitudes and don't wish to work hard. They want follow simple team rules. ???????UMMM. One or two such athletes in a program - OK. But a half dozen +. What is going on in the recruiting process that these supposed flaws in these girls characters and work ethics aren't being discovered? Or, if there is a personality clash between these athletes and the coach, wouldn't that be more obvious during the process. There is usually several face to face meetings and at minimum 2-3 dozen phone calls between them before a scholarship offer is made and accepted.
