  1. I for one am pretty pleased with this years FR class. JD acknowledged the lack of retention last winter and said he would fix it.So far we have one kid who did not come - Vince Hill. Janil Carter has played well on special teams. Mondo Sewell is starting on the DLine. Matt Rogers challenged for the QB spot. Bryan Williams looks to be a player and hopefully will get the starting nod on Saturda. And Kasparek is already on the 2 deep. We already have a fair number of contributions that have made this team better. If we lose kids it will be in the spring but for now I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. I honestly don't see this being an issue any longer.
  2. Zips go on a scoring spree - Akron 12IU 10
  3. Any word on his back? After seeing the first 2 games, I will state the obvious - we need playmakers and speed on offense.
  4. Props to Elton Alexander picking the Zips 24-20. Unfortunately the PD banned him to Kentucky for the game.
  5. No way did French really say that.....About butt cheeks. If you listen to him at the 5:45 report, when no one else is up yet, he gets pretty rauccous.
  6. Last Sat morning on WNIR French blasted Thomas for saying that App State would be a blowout. French said, "That team is good, they will give Michigan trouble. I am not saying they will win, but they make a game of it." Then he added, "I could flap my butt cheeks together and make more sense than George Thomas." Please don't visualize.F George Thomas.
  7. Have to go with my heart on this one. Akron 21osu 16Hopefully on the page 2 story in the ABJ, no one from the Zips says no one thought we could do it except us. Half of this board is picking a Zips win.Bring it home baby
  8. Usually I am all gung ho about an upset when we play these top 10 teams. And I have always been wrong. What I do feel though would be a huge disappointment if this game is not competitive. Generally when a top 15-20 team plays a good MAC team, the difference is around 2 TDs. If this game ends up a 30 point rout, either osu is top 5 material and/or we are going 4-8. I like our chances to be good this year. If we don't turn the ball over and play well on special teams, I don't know why we should not be in this game in the 4th quarter. This is the week to think big, our chance to earn respect. I am cautiously optimistic for this game. Mentally, our guys won't melt. If they play mediocre and we play well, not perfect, but well, this should be a game. Come on Zips!
  9. Good posts, just my extra 2 cents1. Why not have Domonkos on kickoffs? It seems that at the end of last year, he was getting balls into the endzone. Igor was probably kicking to the 10-15 with a 5 yard disadvantage.2. OLine looked better than I thought. I don't remember many 2nd or 3rd and 12 plays. I don't remember many holds if any, and thank goodness there was no personal foul from the offensive line. That broke a record compared to last year. Not many plays went for negative yardage.3. Run D was very good, the D Line looked better than I expected.4. Nice rotation of players. Compared to the roster show from 5 years ago, we have much more depth across the board.5. Good energy, and for the most part smart playing. We did not beat ourselves. Next week is big, go down and play smart and hard. If we play well and they play mediocre, it will be a ballgame.
  10. I agree, love the concept, but I got out of Cleveland late. Next week I will be in Columbus so will miss that show, but hopefully will be able to call in after a big win on the 15th. Thanks for putting this together.
  11. Good point - my feeling from this topic is that DLM does not have passion covering his beat. Who knows, maybe if he was the YSU beat writer he would still do his job the same way. But a good reporter lives and breathes what they do. I have a suspicion that if Rasor was the blogger for the junior bowling league, he would be all over it. I don't know where Tom Gaffney went to school, but there was sure a lot more information on basketball throughout the year than when DL or Jason Butler or Stephanie Storm covered Zips basketball. How you could show up for the last 20 minutes of practice on the biggest one or the preseason when you are the beat writer seems half assed to me.
  12. My favorite is DL's new blog on the MAC. He updates it about once every 2 weeks with a link to some Internet site. I am so glad that Rasor is around
  13. No worries my friend, they stuck all of us inside the 5 yard line.
  14. Fuqoua has the speed. And I don't think he played football until his junior or senior year of high school. Hopefully he is a late bloomer. Brandon Anderson not starting was my biggest surprise. Although I always thought Chevin was pretty good against the run game and weaker in coverage. Given Army will run all day, maybe it makes sense to start him.
  15. 24-13 Zips
  16. JD mentioned Pride in his press conference and that he may play this year when healed. He also said Alex Allen was #2 and Bryan Williams #3. Depth chart had it reversed. How about some formations with 2 TBs in the backfield?
  17. Just going by Rasor's outstanding notes (Thanks Mike, great job) and Mike Cawood's notes (solid updates), I feel guarded in my optimisim this year. Usually I am overly confident at this point. What I like1. Team chemistry and disicpline seem to be there. I don't think there is much seperation in terms of talent in the MAC East. Mental toughness will be the difference this year.2. I think DK rebounds to a nice year. Hopefully JD has enough faith in the RBs to play 3-4 guys throughout the year and keep people fresh.3. I am not as worried about the D Line. I hope for big things from Mondo. No news on Nate Robinson in camp. Is that good or bad? What worries me1. Will special teams be any better this year? I am very worried about the kicking game. But I expect great things from the return team.2. Jaq has the nod now. But I am still worried about our QBs. We have had good play dating back to Butchie. We need the QB to be better than average.3. Will the OLine bounce back? Again unproven but high profile guys coming in. I am hopeful here.So predicting the Army game after seeing no practices, when in doubt go with the Zips. If we don't beat Army, they are either a lot better than I thought or we are going to have a bad year. I look for us to be really good in spots and look really bad in others. But Akron's sheer talent should win out. Zips win 24 - 13 and give us optimisim heading into week 2.
  18. Disappointed in the 90 second Akron spot and about 3 minutes on other teams. Maybe it was just me, but our spot was pretty quick.
  19. Changing positions this year is suicidal. Both kids will play and hopefully one emerges. I don't see why anyone would transfer because he would have to sit out. Both will play this year and who knows who will be the guy come Novemeber. I just want to see some wins.
  20. Seems like we need both 640 and 1350. In northern Summitt, I agree, I get 350 perfect and can't get 640 at all.
  21. Hopefully our QB will be all MAC at that time and the decision will look like a good one.
  22. Maybe a 10-15 minute walk, but the Winking Lizard is a nice place for dinner and drinks. And they are an official sponsor of Zips athletics.
  23. My guess was that our game was scheduled 5 years ago. The Can't game was scheduled this year as a 12th game. Our UConn game was last minute as well so we get 325K. The Can't/osu game was last minute so they get 675K. I thought YSU was getting over 700K. And that is probably from Tressel giving them some extra.
  24. Given how close it seems right now, I would not mind seeing both play at least the first few weeks. I am generally not a fan of platooning QBs, but neither has really won the job or lost the job.
  25. Thanks for your insights.
