I heard the same thing, they rotate who gets the #1 pick between Motor City and GMAC. This year it is GMAC. I also used to think MCB always got the 1st pick.

What I remember hearing is ticket prices will be nominal for regular seats similar to the RB but costs would be high for the club seating. I would expect some licensing like they do today with the 100 dollar donation but expect it to be modest. We only have 1200 season ticket olders? And the big donors will probably get the club seats.

3.) Back to the basics is a good thing. Many Rowdies simply heckle the opponent's bench warmers and are more interested in jawing with some 7' lurch than with cheering on the team and creating that loud home-court advantage. The entirety of the Rowdies leaders are on the band side. A few need to be on the other side so we can have coordinated efforts. Being out of synch was a problem last year as well.Put some leaders on both sides. The north end needs someone to get the rest of them in synch.

Wood was up against a guy 5 inches taller than him. When he has to sit out, we have not inside scoring presence. I am hoping McKnight emerges into that guy.

Dwight had the most domininating senior year that I remember a Zip ever having. You never see a DB litterally win 2-3 ball games for you. He was just dominant vs UCF and Can't that year

Just terrible

Is Roberts on the team?I believe that he would not be eligible until Dec 19th. So he wasn't dressed but that should not mean anything. With Ronnie having chest pains which is really scary, I hope Roberts is able to help.
-
Thanks ZFF! Defensive player of the year, does he play LB or bulk up 15 lbs and play FB?
-
Driving to the RB yesterday, I heard French's interview with Mack. Mack said all OOC games except at Army are not set in stone. Brian Kelly was moaning about playing at a MAC school when they played Miami. Does UC pull out of coming to the RB? I can see and would not mind a 1-AA coming next year. It would be nice to get 5 home games.

I have no inside knowledge, but don't you have to go through a process and make sure minority candidates get looked at? This just does not make sense.

I would rather see CJ7 at DB than WR. I don't see blazing speed in him. He played DB in high school I believe but not WR. We will have holes to fill in the secondary next year as well. Get a good JUCO receiver, Owens and Pride get healthy, and we should have 3 solid WRs. BZ - I assume that you saww CJ11 in high school as well. How would you compare him vs Tanski? We already have 1 high school kid coming in for QB. Given that it appears neither CJ7 or CJ11 or the answer, I would not mind bringing in 2 QBs this year. Next year is a critical year. I hear good things about Rodgers but turning the reins over to an inexperienced and unproven guy who was hurt this year makes me nervous. Should we go hard after a JUCO QB?
-
Anyone have a sense if Rodgers is fast enough to run the spread?

Ditto

Thanks Captain, then I hope that we may see him. Have you heard much about how the transfers are looking in practice? With the 2 you mention and Andrew Johnson, we should have 3 additional guys on the 2 deep next year.

Joe Dunn said tonight that he has to sit out this year. He is a transfer and won't be eligible until next season. I vote for putting Jabarri back there.

How can anyone be so clueless?

Is Notre Dame even Div 1 still? -
Congrats to soccer! Frenchie said the pairing get released at 4 PM tomorrow. I doubt we get a bye and home game. We always get screwed.

We already have a verbal from a kid from New Philadelphia. I wonder if he tries to bring in 2. The question for me is does he think Rodgers is the long term guy? I hope so. But if not, does he go the JUCO route?
-
I agree. If there is turnover and you bring in a high school guy to coach TEs or WRs I would understand, but not a coordinator.
-
Cincinnati is a great example of that. 35K last night on ESPN. Before this year, they never drew that much in football.

I agree, you are either a liar or you are not. Nick Saban was a liar. Butch Davis lied to a kid a week before he took the Browns job so the kid would not go pro. That shows the character of both of them to me. Another case in point. KD has said all along he wants to be at Akron forever. After the Miami game he said he may start looking around at some point, the snub pissed him off that much. He quickly back tracked that a few days later, but I find that honesty to be refreshing. A second case in point, after the NC State win last year, JD got asked in a conference about rumors of his name being mentioned for bigger jobs. He said something to the affect that he is focused on Akron and the season and changed the subject. You can get around an answer without lying. When rifle32 asked Mac, if he really is involved he could say something without really answering the question like that is nice to hear, but my focus is helping to build Akron right now and then change the subject. You either lie or you don't as far as I am concerned. not happening. asked mack myself and he said no. i choose to believe him. Do you really think Mac or any coach looking for another job is going to tell you or anybody else that they are actively pursuing job ops? No Way!as an athlete i choose to believe that my ad would not lie about something like that point blank to my face. there is that possibility, but you're asking more out of me to think he's a lier than to believe what he says.

5th in the MAC, I believe Temple has the highest paid coach. Ryno, I thought that Rasor had a column about 6 months ago where he gave the assistants salaries. Mike, was I dreaming?

An excerpt from Elton Alexander's MAC blog below. I agree with what Elton says maybe half the time, but I do like that he dislikes osu as much as some of us. And he also picked Akron over the bucks this year. For those who are interested, former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz was told of a particular sportswriter (yours truly) who sometimes, S-O-M-E-T-I-M-E-S, picks the state deity, Ohio State, to be upset on the gridiron. This sportswriter is then grilled like chicken at a summer barbecue when the No. 1 Buckeyes luck out. This sportswriter has picked the Buckeyes to lose four times this season, five if you count tomorrow's game against Illinois. AP file photoLou Holtz says he votes with his heart, regardless of how bad Notre Dame is.Everybody but me seems to know whomever the deity plays, it's akin to the Cleveland Music Institute going against Rommel in the first half and Patton in the second. But Holtz -- who must suffer the same fate for always, Always, ALWAYS picking Notre Dame to win (the Irish are 1-8 and falling) -- might have some suggestions for keep this guy off the glowing charcoals. "I just got a nasty letter from an Ohio State fan," Holtz said. "Was I biased because I wasn't able to beat them? I wrote and reminded him we won the last two times we played them at South Carolina (where Holtz last coached). "You're put in a position to make a choice, not to do what the public wants, or is popular. Just say what's in your heart and tell them to live with it. It's like the polls. The reason they keep voting is because not everybody is always right." Thanks, coach. I'll tell him.

My thoughts on JD and next year . . This was supposed to be the year to contend, when hired JD said year 4 was what they were pointing to. With the low player retention rates from 05 and 06 classes, I am pointing to 2009. Quite frankly, I don't expect more than 500 next season. We will still have a lot of young guys playing on the 2 deep, we still have to find a QB, and we will still have 5 home games. I like JD and want to seem him succeed but I like Akron more and want them to succeed. I hope and expect that he still gets 2 more years and look for big things in 2009. If it doesn't happen at that point, then I can see things happening. What I do like about this year.1. JD has shown the ability to admit mistakes and change what he is doing be it giving up the OC job or changing recruiting strategy, or bringing in a shrink. This past class was still top ranked and all but Vince Hill I believe are still there. 2. The OLine has really come together. They move well and have the chance to be dominant.3. The RBs were a big upgrade this year.4. Igor has solidified the kicking game.5. For as much as we have lost players, no one except Igor got into any trouble with the law. I would have a lot more issues if we were bringing kids in who beat up their girlfriends, had DUIs, or whatever.6. I don't see the team quitting. I was at BG and what I saw on the sidelines was frustration, and the most piss poor out of position team in a long time, not guys laughing like at Toledo last year. What I would like to see more of1. More sense of urgency from JD shown in the Ohio game. He is not a yeller and does not have to be, but I believe that he outwardly showed more energy than transitioned to the team.2. Seems like upgrading the student support is some low hanging fruit for a big win. The athletic budget is 15M. Spending an extra 300K per year on a support system is only 2% of the budget. It seems like that would be sufficient to going a long way to helping the kids out who need that help.3. More money for the assistants would be nice but that would take a lot more money than #2. An extra 10-15K per coach isn't much if someone bigger comes calling and they need to build resumes. JD is the 5th highest paid coach in the MAC. I hope that the assistants are 5th as well when compared to others in the league.4. More adjustments throughout the game. Moorhead was very rocky early on, hopefully he finishes strong. On defense, sometimes we look good, sometimes we look horrible. There has been a lot of discussion on the 3-3-5. I am not as smart as many of you who talk about it just find something that works. What I look for next year.1. Personal wise, I have seen enough of CJ7 to know he is not the answer at QB. Thinking back to when Butchie was installed as the starting QB his FR year vs Ohio. He had a lot of rough spots but still played like a QB. CJ7 looked like a high school QB in the BG game. If CJ7's mechanics are this bad now, how much better can they get? My hope is Rodgers gets the nod next year. For one that means he is an upgrade from CJ7 and CJ11. Two, I look to him to be the leader that we need on offense. QBs getting suspended just irks me to no end. If Rodgers has the potential to be the long term guy, go with him so in 09 he is ready to lead the team to a big season. One good JUCO receiver and good QB play, and the offense can be really good next year.2. How good is Ryan Bain? Sizewise he looks dominant. By having 1 dominant guy down low with a pretty good player in Mondo and Oferin on the sides, this would help offset the loss of the LBs and secondary. Too bad Al Teriq did not make grades, he would have gotten some valuable playing time this year. But pinning all of my hopes on Ryan Bain like I did with Nate Robinson makes me very nervous about our D next year. What still confuses me.1. The MAC is down from what it was 5 years ago at the top tier level, but the bottom tier is way better than 5 years ago. Why is everyone the same? I figured with the new facilities, we would have a 2-3 year jump on everyone else and just dominate with talent. Instead, everyone has pretty much the same talent. I go back to 2005, we win the MAC title with mediocre talent, I thought JD was the greatest coach ever. I thought look, a team that does not beat itself, that makes the big plays when needed and JD outcoaches everyone else. Going into 2006 we are seen as the favorites with as good or better talent. We fall on our face, OU becomes the Akron of 2006 The common theme is Frank Solich is a genius, look a team with minimal talent that doesn't beat themselves and Solich outcoaches in the close games, what discipline. Fast foward to 2007, OU falls on their face and now we hear, look at Buffalo, Turner Gill is amazing. Look what he has done at Buffalo, they win with less. What I see is a bunch of even teams where 1 tends to make more plays for a few games but can't sustain it. How do we get to the point where our talent level just rises above everyone else besides doubling the budget? Here is hoping that we finish strong.

Solid finish by both the men and women. The women should be preseason favorites next year.
