What's the deal with Sweich? He was very hoghly touted when he came in and everyone was so excited.I know he was hurt in hs but that was 2 years ago.
-
I think it is a combination of him being healthy and finally getting it.

Successor to Alex Allen?
Buckzip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I think Dale Martin and Devoe Torrence will fill in nicely. However, the more the better. -
Is there a Reason the Zips looks so cuddly instead of vicious?

I agree. Not all mascots look tough and scary. Some are "cute" -
My entire point...Thank you.

Go on any Sucks website and start talking about Michigan, USC, Florida, Texas, LSU, Michigan St., Penn St, Miami (fl), etc etc etc and see how class fairs.Again, tOSU fans are only respectful to us because we do not beat them. They do not consider us to be of any threat or anywhere near their level. I have numerous friends and co-workers who are tOSU fans and all day they trash talk with each other how bad the 'other' team* is.So get off your white horse about Akron fans putting down the Suckeyes. I commend your respect for UA, but I will attest that the rest of their fan base hardly shares your insight. If the day comes that Akron beats them, god knows what little respect for us they have will be gone.*Whereas the 'other' team is any team tOSU happens to be playing that day or has ever played in the past.Funny, I go to quite a few OSU sites, and the only school they attack constantly is Michigan. Most are very cordial to PSU and the rest of the big10 unless a troll comes flaming. Then the war is on.However, very few start the crap, except Michigan. The rivalBelieve what you want though, I know I can't change your closed mind.

Looking at the three verbals we have so far apparently one of the important criteria is shortness. Don't get me wrong. I think short people deserve to play football too, and if the MAC converts to an "under 6 feet" league (like intramural basketball) we have a real leg up on the competition.LOL

Again, you brought it up....When it comes to having a little class, it doesn't matter what site you are on.

The truth is that when OSU has a down season (which doesn't really happen that often) they may likely lose recruits to other Big 10 or BCS schools. Look what happened to PSU in the late 90's/early this decade. They had a few down years in a row and subsequently lost recruits, mainly to OSU. We're never really going to get any recruit that would/could play at the BCS level. Maybe a couple of kids get overlooked by the bigger schools, but the level is a notch down from those programs. As for fans, the new stadium will help, although I have a feeling a lot of those attending the first game(s) will be people that can't tell a football from a hockey puck. They'll be there just to be seen and to say they've always been a fan. Win and you may keep some of those people who may then become a bit more knowledgeable about the Zips. Continue on this mediocre line and we'll lose them after the first season.Exactly. We don't compete with OSU for recruits. If they are being recruited by OSU they are being recruited by many big time football powers.

I wondered how long this thread wouls stay good."Suckeyes" shows a lot of class.

What this tells me is the Zips need to average 34 points per game.
-
love the rest of the post but I must respectfuly disagree with you here. Jaq is helping our O put up about 20-30 pts a game. problem is our D is giving up about 25-35. the only thing this team is realy missing to be a top notch MAC team is a DI can't disagree that Jacq us doing a serviceable job. How much better woud we be with the CMU and BSU QBs? I think we would be able to bridge the difference in scores more easily. We would be a much better team with the other two QBs.I agree that Jacq isn't the best QB out there, but he is not the biggest problem. Sure you can say, if we had another QB, but you could also say, if we had another DT, or LB or CB too. The defense is our problem. When you put up 28 points a game, you should win most of your games.

Johnny, I agree with the part about being ignored. However, that is the local media doing that. It is not the fault of OSU. Not to bring politics into this, because I don't want to, but it is extremely obvious that the main stream media is competely behind Obama in this election. I don't blame that on Obama. I blame that on the media.

Outstanding post. If anyone would ever visit an OSU site,(I know you won'T) you would see that most of the fans there have the utmost respect for Akron and are excited when UA does well. When UA was in the MCB, there were a few threads wishing UA well and talking about the game. This hatred is certainly 1 sided.
-
Well said. Look at Michigan and ND. They have been sicking for a few years and it doesn't help any of the other Michigan schools.

Another thread starting to bash someone else. Jealousy continues for some.

Recruiting for mid majors is usually slower at first. Guys are hoping for offers from the big schools and then the nidmajors tend to get the leftovers. I don't mean that as a slight, but it is the truth. Sure, there are a few guys that may dream of playing for a MAC school, but most of them would rather play for a BCS school. Also, some will look at depth charts and decide they would rather play at a MAC school than ride the pine at a bigger school.

The reason there is a call for JD is because the team is not very good and doesn't seem to improve. Here at Akron an 8-4 record would be a fantastic season and we would all be elated about it.At other schools, too many 8-4 seasons and you will be fired. It's all about expectations and having a winning mentality instead of a losing mentality. If we were 8-4 consistently and had the occasional 6- 6 record, we would most likely be happy. However, right now we are happy to finish 6-6. That is because we are used to losing.

Don't forget the TB transfer from Louisville, Martin, and Devoe Torrence. The d-line is very young and all but Lively return. If Bain can return in form that is a huge bonus. We have a couple of young talented CB that are getting some good PT this year too. I don't think we miss Grant at LB. I think Fobbs, Williams, Balaam, and the new guys step in and give us more speed at LB.Talent wise I think next year will be the best we have seen in a while. Unfortunately we will still have the same coaching staff.

I remember that call on the radio.

Someone on another site said the exact same thing.

Totally agree. We don't HAVE to have 4 good DL. How about 2 or 3 good DL and 1 or 2 average DL. Works for everybody else.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/teams/akron/This is a link to the new Zips page from sports illustrated. It breaks down future opponents offensive and defensive rankings both nationally and within the conference. Toledo boasts the 12th ranked MAC offense (97/120 in 1-A) and the 4th ranked total defense (67/120 nationally). Yet somehow they are last in the MAC in points allowed and 105/120 nationally. Compare that to the Zips at 4th in the MAC on offense (43rd nationally), and 12th on defense (94th nationally). Does defense win games? We'll find out in 2.5 weeks.Defense wins championships is something high school coaches tell the guys on defense to make them feel better since they were not athletic or smart enough to play offense. Teams need to score and score and score and score to win games. That is the state of college football today.I would have to disagree with you on this. It is a team effort to win ball games. Defense has to stop the other team from scoring, as well as the Offense has to score points. Also, I can't see how you feel you need to be smart to play on offense. Are you calling all the Defensive players dummies?I disagree too. You need great athletes on defense. That is the problem with the UA defense. There are very few of them.To win you need one of the 2 units, offense or defense, to be great. But you still need the other unit to be good. If you have a great offense but a bad defense you will lose. If you have a great defense but a bad offense you will lose too. However, you have a better chance with a bad offense, because a great defense can score too and keep the game close.

Not every freshman plays. Marcoux is playing and so is Rash. The other guys played when their were injuries.

Great game by DK. WHere has that guy been for the last couple of years?
