  1. GP1, I understand the guys have families to feed, but it's not like they're being paid minimum wage at Akron. I just wish for some of these coaches and administrators it was about more than the almighty $. I guess it's not, and I'm just going to have to accept that. I think it also goes both ways in terms of the University, as we just screwed a guy in the ass who's been loyal like no other in UAM. I guess we can't expect anybody to be loyal around here when they see what we do to the guys who are.
  2. They've been running articles almost daily. You know, it's really sad when a team's hometown newspaper acts like they don't exist until they start winning, and then hop on the bandwagon. Oh well, I'm just glad the Zips are finally getting covered. Dear God, they're even covering recruiting!!!!
  3. I said nothing in there about JD leaving. The point was there's no point in signing coaches to long contracts, because the school is the only ones who has to honor them.
  4. I would say good luck but I really wouldn't mean it. I'm damn sick and tired of coaches and administrators screwing this University. Matt Wallerstedt is a guy whose career JD Brookhart rescued from the confines of a Division 2 dead end after a previously putrid stint in Division 1 at Wyoming. How does this guy repay him? By jumping ship at the first chance he gets.
  5. I don't really see what good signing JD or Dambrot to a long term contract would be. Unlike any other profession, coaching is unique in that while a University is bound by a contract and must honor it, the coach can take off any time he wants. If JD wants to leave and a program wants him bad enough, he'll leave regardless of how many years is left on his contract. Now if he suddenly starts losing and things fall to pieces and we want to get rid of him, we have to pay him oogles of money to buy out his contract. The new AD needs to focus on the new Stadium.
  6. He must complete a "year of residency" at Akron before being able to compete. But, because he never enrolled at Minnesota, his five year clock never started. He will have four years of eligibility left after sitting out next season.
  7. Gotta feel bad for Mike Waddell. I felt like he really deserved this job over some associate at another mid-major school. He bleeds blue and gold, and to give that job to someone on his same level who has no ties to the university has got to sting a little bit. Oh well, I guess we'll see what this guy is made of. Hope he lives up to his predecessor.
  8. I just put the picture up because it shows that even our arch enemies have no choice but to recongnize and bow down like the bitches they really are over there
  9. Hey fuck Lolla. I can hear the song playing now in his head "Go on...take the money and run!!!!" What's even more sickening is that his players were taking him out for dinner saturday and he cancelled on them so he could go negotiate his fat new deal. Way to turn your back on your players and the university. I hope you don't win a game at Louisville faggot.
  10. So how many Zips fans do you guys wanna predict? Memphis boards say they'll bring maybe 3,000. As much community support as I've seen for this team and with most people being off work from Christmas, I could easily see 15,000 Zips fans making the short 3 hour trek. What do you guys think? I know that's even over our season average for home games this season, but with weather and midweek scheduling, it was a weird year. Plus Akron football fans are about the most severely fairweather as I've ever seen! We can't get 12,000 to some home games yet if we have a champion people are willing to drive 3 hours. Whatever!! Just wanna see lots of blue and gold in Detroit!
  11. I've got 10 for myself, my brother, my uncle, and a bunch of snot nosed kids. We're breeding Zip fans early!!
  12. For those of us who don't know much about the Tigers, here's some good info posted on GoZips.com today. The whole article has other good info. Whoever put's these things together does a pretty thorough job. Memphis At-A-Glance... • The Tigers became bowl-eligible for the third-consecutive year with a 26-3 victory over Marshall (Nov. 26). Memphis, 6-5 on the season, is one of six teams from Conference USA in a bowl game. • Memphis leads C-USA, and ranks No. 6 nationally in rushing offense (260.8 yards per game). The highlight of the year for the Tigers came against Tennessee-Chattanooga (Sept. 17) when they rushed 54 times for a season-high 398 yards. The Tigers also scored a season-high five touchdowns. • DeAngelo Williams is among the nation's best running backs. The Doak Walker finalist ranks third in the nation at 172.6 yards a game. He not only runs, but also scores. Williams averages 9.60 points a game (No. 10 in the nation) which is nearly one-third of UM's total. • Williams is the NCAA career all-purpose yardage leader (7,337 yards). He is also the fourth-ranked rusher of all-time (5,788 yards). • The Tigers are among the nation's best (sixth) in punting. Michael Gibson averages 44.4 yards a punt and as a team, they have a 38.7-yard net average. • The defense allows a conference-low 22.3 points a game and yields a league-low in rushing defense (132.7 ypg). • In 2004, Memphis allowed 31.3 points a game which was No. 90 in the nation. They have improved 58 spots to No. 32. They have the fourth best turnaround nationally behind TCU, South Florida, and Tulsa. • The defense is led by LB Tim Goodwell, who has 90 total tackles on the season with more than half (47) of those being solo. Carlton Baker is another key player on defense with 82 total tackles (43 solo), while also leading the Tigers in tackles for loss of yards (nine for 52 yards) and sacks (five). • The Tigers are under the direction of fourth-year head coach Tommy West who is 25-23 at Memphis. West came to Memphis in 2001 after serving as head coach at Clemson (1993-2000). He was 31-28 with the Clemson Tigers. • Zips reserve LB Brandon Butler is the brother of Memphis OG Blake Butler.
  13. And....you're saying that was a bad thing??
  14. The #1 running back in the nation wouldn't crack our 2-deep?? You're insane. This kid is going to be a star. If you think he's the best high school running back in the nation you are a fool. The best running back in the nation would have ran for more then 98 yards on thirty some carries against Hoban. They wouldn't take themselves out of games on crucial fourth and 1's late in the fourth quarter. You all hear that some publications rank him number one and think he's the next messiah. If any of you saw him play you'd agree with me. To me you sound like some jealous hater whose got something personal against the kid. Players don't just get ranked #1 or #50 for that matter at their position in the nation off of nothing. The kid can obviously play, as he's been pursued by every major program in America. You really aren't making sense right now.
  15. The #1 running back in the nation wouldn't crack our 2-deep?? You're insane. This kid is going to be a star.
  16. Alright, let's hear whose going, and if you aren't you'd better have a REAL good reason!!
  17. I think just the face that the NUMBER 2 RUNNING BACK AND NUMBER 8 PLAYER OVERALL IN THE NATION visited Akron speaks volumes as to how far the program has come in so short of a time.
  18. The guy said at this stage though. It could very well look better at this stage. Will it in February?? Maybe if hell freezes over. We all know Can't isn't going to compete with Akron recruiting anytime in the near future. I don't think ron was trying to say that. Nobody who comes onto this site and isn't blatantly trying to be derrogatory and inflammatory like ToledoRockets and WPIAL deserves that kind of treatment. Disagreeing is fine, but not in a way that's going to encourage people never to come back.
  19. Brett Biggs is a great player, but losing him wouldn't be too bad if we had a backfield of Chris Wells, Alex Allen, and Dennis Kennedy for the next 3 years. Of course, this is just wishful thinking, as he will likely still be a Suckeye. But....as a coach once told me long ago, "Don't act like looking at other schools when you're committed is harmless. Do you think if you were married your wife would care if you said you were committed to her but still wanted to go and look at a few other girls? You don't look unless you're thinking about DOING SOMETHING." DO US CHRIS, DO US!!!!!!
  20. Just talked to one of the guys coming home from practice this morning. Apparently Akron Garfield's Chris Wells, the #1 player in Ohio, took an official visit with Akron this weekend and was at the Zips practice this morning. He's already committed to the Suckeyes, but apparently he's rethinking. What a steal this would be for the Zips!! Wow. This guy is the prize recruit of just about every program in the country, including USC. If we could somehow get a guy like this it would launch this program to heights we've never imagined. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE STAY HOME CHRIS!!!
  21. If we want to grow this site, we shouldn't be so harsh to new members. Just a thought.
  22. If the bars around the team hotels have any sense at all, they'll be open that night. TigerTwice, I think I'll have my nieces and nephew with me for this one so I don't know if I'll be making my rounds at the bars unfortunately . I'll probably be driving over on gameday, but I'd love to meet a few of you guys. I lost my password for bbs so if you wanna PM me on here that'd be fine.
  23. If for whatever reason JD does leave, Jim Flemming should quickly be promoted to head coach. The thing that man has done with the defense is nothing short of a miracle. #23 defense in the nation after what we've endured the past decade? I think he'd be fine head coach. Let's hope JD is here to stay for a while though, and I think he is. I think he's the kind of guy that might even turn down a better job for the kids he's already with.
  24. What you Tiger fans need to know is that we've got a great coaching staff. We've beaten some teams in the past two years with more talent than us on gameplan and our guys busting their ass. Jim Flemming has our defense much improved and while I can see your running back having a good day if he's as good as you guys say he is, I can also see us holding him under 100. Looking forward to the game!!
  25. DeAngelo Williams is a better running back than Garrett Wolfe. We've got to get the run defense shored up.
