  1. I've read some of this dyke's rantings over on the buchtelite website. She's pathetic, not to mention obsessive and borderline stalkerish. No offense to Zipsrifle, a great poster around here and great university fan, but football and men's basketball are the only sports that really matter to most fans, administrators, and the student body. If the Buchtelite started wasting newspaper space on covering rifle matches they really would start ending up in campfires or for toilet paper over in Bierce after they forget to restock just about every day. So just shut the hell up and get off the site. From what I've read online the Buchtelite, Hixenbaugh, Kadar, and Rasor are all doing an outstanding job and are some of the sharpest student journalists in the country.
  2. From gozips.comGood job UAM.
  3. Just talked to a player who told me JD pulled Cloud's scholarship and removed him from the team. Too bad this immensely talented player didn't take advantage of the opportunity given to him and was a total jack off. He'll probably end up back on the streets of Cleveland. As far as I know Jemal Benjamin, his former Glenville teammate, is doing well and should be ready to go by the fall after recovering from severe head trauma this season.
  4. ArticleWalther won't get UA releaseBy Tom GaffneyBeacon Journal sportswriterUniversity of Akron coach Keith Dambrot said Saturday that he has decided not to release Bubba Walther from his scholarship with the Zips.Walther, who left the team on Dec. 28, has since transferred to Ohio University.By not being released from his scholarship, Walther must follow NCAA rules and pay his own way for one year. He will be eligible to play for the Bobcats in January of 2007 and can receive a scholarship at that time. He has 2 ½ years of eligibility remaining.Dambrot said he has never not released a player's scholarship in eight years as a head coach, but the circumstances surrounding the transfer warranted it this time. Dambrot said he would not go into details about the decision.``I am fine with him transferring,'' Dambrot said. ``If a guy is not happy, he should transfer. That's all I want to say.''Walther could not be reached for comment.Walther, a 6-foot-4 sophomore swingman, started 14 games last season and averaged 8.8 points en route to making the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman team.He started 3-of-8 games and averaged 8.9 points this season.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5. If Travis slept through a practice he shouldn't have seen the floor tonight. Playing him may have helped the Zips win a game, but that kind of lack of discipline can come back to bite a coach in the arse. Just my opinion. Thought it was a great game last night.
  6. You sound pretty bitter. Which is understandable. You were never that good. Don't blame your own lack of talent on the coaching staff. That's just pathetic. Great blast ITZ! That's the stuff that makes boards great. However, the personal blast at Owens aside, the facts are the facts. I would normally refrain from such things and I do realize Owens wasn't the greatest thing to ever hit college football, but this guy is bringing personal bs he had against him onto this board and it had nothing to do with Owen's abilities and everything to do with his own, or lack thereof. Pathetic.

  8. Yeah, thanks for the update .I was talking about in our normal 11 game schedule. Two seasons in a row with 6 wins. Lee Owens did that. We got a seventh win in a post season we were very lucky to be in and in a normal year we would not have been in. Until JD firmly establishes this program as winning 8-9 games year in and year out, no major programs are going to be interested.
  9. Until JD wins more than six games a year here at Akron, no one's going to be coming to take him away from us.
  10. Oh shit Mike, you had to invoke the name on CK. Prepare for the fire of hell to rain down.
  11. Because he visited Akron. Most of us knew he wasn't coming to Akron. But to have the #1 running back in the nation visit your school and show interest is a big step in the right direction.
  12. I can confirm that. He's gone. LO got a big pickup. Talented kid who was never really given a chance here. He should light the D2 world on fire. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ashland win a national title in the next 2 years which could land Lee Owens with another 1A job somewhere.
  13. I found an answer to my question:Hand sizes for this years Rookie QBsAlex Smith 9.875 (Round 1)Charle Frye 9.750 (Round 3)Derek Anderson 9.750 (Round 6)David Green 9.625 (Round 3)Dan Orlovsky 9.500 (Round 5)Aaron Rodgers 9.375 (Round 1)Kyle Orton 9.250 (Round 4)Jason Campbell 9.125 (Round 1)Adrian McPherson 9.000 (Round 5)Stefan Lefors 8.750 (Round 4)Here is my source on this. It's nothing official.Just from another forum, so consider the source.A little interesting to read through this. This pasted info comes from down at the bottom of the page. source Wow I was way off then. Boy is my face red.
  14. We give LO hell about a 45% winning percentage, but for the love of God, look at the facilities he had to recruit with!! The fact that we had as many winning seasons as we did in 9 years was nothing short of a miracle. The fact that LO's staff could recruit the amount of talent that it did was a miracle. You who are so quick to bash have no idea how hard of a job Akron football was until these new facilities came about. And oh, guess what, they didn't come about until JD Brookhart got here. Would JD have won anymore games or recruited any better athletes had he been here from '95-'03? I think the answer to that is no. Would LO have had as much success as JD in the past two sesaons?? It's hard to say, but I honest to God believe we might not have been better off in the long run, but '04 would've been a better year and we may have actually won the MAC last year. You can't say for certain though.Like I've said before, I love JD and staff, but some of you need to open your eyes. LO did alot with very little as head coach of the Zips.
  15. I remember hearing that when Charlie was at the combine. Most quarterbacks hands measure 7.5'' + from wrist to middle finger tip. His was somewhere in the 6's. But hey, it's not like he played in sunshine and 70's while here at Akron, so I don't think it's all that much of a problem for him.
  16. Alright guys, I couldn't be more pleased that we have a coach like JD Brookhart. My only point is that it is absolutely embarrassing to me that some of you guys bash a guy like Owens that poured his heart into our program, whether he was as successful as we would've liked or not. Also, I find it strange that we worship JD over this season and called for Owens head after 2003.Consider- 5-3 in the MAC. 5-3 in the MAC.We bash Owens over blowing games against Can't State and UConn, but JD in his career blew a game against a sorry MTSU team in '04, and this past year we lost to freakin BALL STATE and were SHUT OUT by Army. Let's be honest here. We were an extreme beneficiary of luck and circumstance in getting to the MAC Championship this year. The stars aligned. Some of you who are in here praising JD now were wondering whether or not he should go after Army and Ball State. You were on here giving the throwup Smilies about this team. Just about all of you after Ball State said we were done and way to blow our chances blah blah blah. Hypocrisy is running rampant on this thread. I know that pisses a lot of you off, but so be it. It's the truth. We're lucky to have JD, but why bash Owens?? Doesn't make a lick of sense.
  17. Give credit where credit is due. Owens did a lot for Akron. Heck, he was fired for going 5-3 in the MAC. Wasn't that the same record we had this year?? Don't get me wrong. JD's a great coach and I'm glad we have him. I just don't understand the anymosity on this site towards Lee Owens. He was as much responsible for this season as JD Brookhart.
  18. I haven't seen Brian Howe enough to have an opinion on him. Stokes, Rorh and Grant saw 90+ percent of all the LB time last season. Is Howe any good? If so, why no real PT in 2005 or before? Howe was injured most of 2004, and 2005 he would've seen a lot more action except he left the team for about three weeks for personal reasons. He was playing a lot more at the end of the season and got some quality snaps in the MCB. I think he'll surprise you guys next year and be pretty solid for us alongside Grant and Stokes.
  19. Well from this video this guy honestly didn't even look that good. If those were his "highlights" I'd hate to see his lowlights. He looked like he shyed away from contact when he had running backs coming directly at him, and not once did I see him take on a block from an olineman and shed it. He dances around blocks and he's afraid to stick his nose in there. I'll be honest, I think we signed better backers the past two years where this kid isn't gonna see the field much. And as for looking good at JUCO, it is fairly easy. Now Brett Biggs, he looked GREAT in JUCO, and we were still his only offer.
  20. I think Bryan Howe deserves the start at Penn State. He played outstanding in relief roles for Jay Rohr this year and at times I thought he played better than Rohr. He's a strong kid who can get off blocks and lay licks, exactly what you need in a MLB. If not Howe, then Al-Teric Balaam will start. This kid was lightly recruited, he's undersized, and it's easy to look good on a JUCO field. He won't be our starter next season.
  21. That's not me. That's a picture off gozips.com that I took a liking too because it shows even the half brains over at Can't State have to recognize where this program is heading. GO ZIPS!!!
  22. CK, I understand your hate of the Beacon and Pluto in particular, but since you don't get the paper I've gotta tell you, it's undeniable that they did a GREAT job with the Motor City Bowl and have done a good job with recruiting. Sure, they're just doing it now because we're successful, but their attention level towards the Zips is finally where it should be. One day there were four....FOUR....front page articles on Akron athletics. I don't think it's fair to complain at this point in time.
  23. I hate to burst this bash the beacon bubble, but they have gotten a lot better this year. They used to be atrocious, but whether jumping on the bandwagon or not, with limited resources they have covered the Zips pretty well from about the end of November on. Mike Rasor's doing a great job over there with his blog and DL Morgan had some good Zips articles to close out the season. Gary Estwick has also been pretty good covering recruiting, staying ahead of most of us on here even.
  24. I don't usually put much stock in footballscoop.com. That being said, I wouldn't blame Pry for wanting to look elsewhere to perhaps once again become a "true" offensive coordinator, since we all know JD calls the plays and now Pry doesn't even have the offensive coordinator title to himself. To another topic: Does anyone know how the search for a new LB coach is going. We have a lot of good young backers and bring in a guy who can bring these kids a long is going to be of the utmost importance.
  25. And choke in Cleveland, do we get an at-large bid???Also, if we win out....Is the Top 25 a possibility??
