  1. Looks like he has continued to struggle at the Division II level, as he is now 0-4 as a starter at Lake Erie College. His stats thus far: GANNON- 14-30, 166 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT FERRIS ST.- 12-25, 159 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT WAYNE ST.- 7-16, 77 yds, 1 TD SAGINAW VALLEY ST.- 17-33, 249 yds, 2 TD, 2 INT With a 4-0 and 13th ranked Ashland squad up next for him, things don't look to get any easier for Mr. Nicely anytime soon. Good luck to him as he finishes out his career.
  2. A win over Ohio would be the sweetest victory for Zips football in quite some time. With the arrogance the Bobkitty fans are showing this year and the utter disrespect most of them have shown towards the rest of the conference, I might run naked down Exchange after that one.
  3. At some point you do have to graduate, but you can still play after you graduate if you have eligibility left. Why not play as long as you can and get your grad school paid for? He certainly has nothing to lose by at least applying for a med-shirt.
  4. If I hear one more Volunqueer fan down here call us "A-kron" I'm gonna start slappin bitches. Hopefully they'll know our name a little better at the conclusion of this game. Go Zips!
  5. UCF 41 Zips 20 Be patient and realistic people. Look at our depth chart, there are bigger high school teams in the area. Bowden will do as much as he can with very little this season, and in the opener it will never be close but we will be encouraged by some offensive output, the likes of which we haven't seen in a very long time.
  6. I'm going to go off the last time in my memory we opened on a Thursday night at home, in 2003 against Can't State. There was somewhat of a buzz going into that season, as I believe we had our most talented team in the 1-A era (though I'm a bit biased), but there's a bit more of a buzz for this season with the start of Bowden Ball. That night the attendance was around 28,000 if I remember correctly, with about 8,000 Can't people there. I'm going to predict a crowd of 23,000 with better than usual student attendance due to the fact that its during the week and people are on campus.
  7. Wow, behind UMass, a 5-6 FCS team. Yep, Elton can go suck a big ole Kangaroo d---. GO ZIPS!!!
  8. People on here disagree and have spats all the time, and then you show up to the games and we're all on the same team and the guy telling you what an idiot you are is buying you a beer. I'd love to meet you in person and I'd be happy to buy you the beverage of your choice before or after the first Zips game I make it up to. Have some thicker skin and interact on the board. Trust me, with the wealth of knowledge here, it will help you with background for your columns.
  9. You admitted it after you said you were done posting here for no other reason than Captain corrected you and threw in a sarcastic joke about Ianello's offense. C'mon man!!! Nobody's saying you're not doing a good job but heck, have some thicker skin and keep interacting.
  10. And we appreciate that, trust me, but good grief, people are going to disagree with you and criticize things you say, it's a friggin sports message board, so either admit when you're wrong when that happens and correct it or argue that your right and make your case, but don't throw a hissy fit and leave, that reflects pretty poorly on your fortitude.
  11. I think that's realistic, anywhere from 3-6 wins for this team and they've met their potential. Hope they prove me wrong and exceed expectations, GO ZIPS!
  12. No problem JZ, people make mistakes, I'm glad to see there are some people that can handle it when they're pointed out.
  13. Wow, grow a pair lately? You're more sensitive than my wife at her special time of the month. Your statement was shown NOT to be one of reality, Captain and others simply corrected you, and now you're taking your ball and going home? Can't take a little criticism?? C'mon man, you're being a complete b----.
  14. You were a little condescending to Cap'n with the whole "If you're under the impression that they're going to be able to get by on the Bowden name alone, you're wrong." Gotta have thicker skin than that George, and you also have to understand that most of us have been involved in Zips athletics for a long time and will correct you from time to time. I think we're all in agreement that you're doing a great job covering the Zips, better than we've ever seen, and we appreciate that. It's a message board, so people get snarky and things get misintepreted sometimes. I hope you'll continue to post, I appreciate all you're doing.

  16. http://gozips.com/sports/fball/2006-07/releases/530399_1 There's one from 2006, and though I haven't lived in the Akron area in a few years, I know that they were continued all though the Brookhart years. Maybe it was something Ianello killed, but I thought there was one last year.
  17. No, it's always been done duing camp, definitely not a trial anything, I'll try to find you some documentation of this.
  18. I don't think Cap'n said they're going to be able to get by on the Bowden name alone, that wasn't his point at all. His problem was with you saying Meet the Team and the kids club were "shrewd" new marketing ideas. The fact of the matter is Meet the Team has been going on for a long time, starting out at the Rubber Bowl before we even had the indoor facility when I was playing. Looking at the pictures from yesterday, the attendance was far worse than its been most years, and that's a result of poor, poor marketing. No one even knew about it! If it had been marketed correctly, the attendance would've been up from previous years, because there is more buzz about Zips football in the community than there's been in a while. The Kids Club is also not new, it's a rehashed idea that was left to die years ago. Captain's point isn't that we don't need these programs, his point is that they must have effort put into them or they'll be as worthless as they've been in the past.
  19. I've read this entire thread.... And I have no idea WTF you're talking about.
  20. Well at least he'll give a great look preparing our o-line on scout team every week.
  21. As an illustration: Let's say Prospect A enrolled at Walsh, a Division 2 program, and took a full time schedule in the fall, but didn't play football. Let's then say he had a bad car accident and took 2 years off of school. At the end of the 2 years, he decides he wants to play football. His choices are walking on at Akron, or playing for Walsh. At Akron, he will have 3 years of eligibility remaining, making him technically a RS-Sophomore. At Walsh, he will have 9 semesters of full time enrollment left, and 4 seasons of competition, making him effectively a true Freshman who can still be redshirted and play 4 seasons after that, though he will have to pick a spring and not enroll full time and sit out spring practice to still have a semester of full time enrollment available for him in his final fall.
  22. For FBS and FCS eligibility, there is a 5 year "clock" that starts whenever you enroll in any school that has a football program, no matter what level, and it starts whether you're on that school's football team or not. By enrolling in a JUCO that had a football program, this young man started his clock. If he were to go to a Division 2 program, which at that level there is no "5 year clock" and they count their eligibility by semesters of full time enrollment (you get 10) and seasons of competition (you get 4), he would likely still be able to have 4 seasons of competition. At any D1 school however, large or small, he's going to be a junior. Whether it's Akron or Ohio State makes no difference, and it has nothing to do with paperwork. Brandon Weedon played minor league baseball, never enrolled at a school with a football program, so he didn't start his five year clock until he enrolled at Oklahoma State at the age of 23.
  23. I just hope the students are football-intelligent enough to realize it might take a season to undo all the damage of the last few seasons, and don't immediately turn sour when we, in all likelihood, get our asses kicked in the season opener.
  24. Maybe he's taken a lot of summer classes and graduated early. In that case, he would be able to play this year. That's probably wishful thinking though.
  25. +1 Too often in college sports fans make it personal when a guy fails on the field. Clayton Moore failed not because he didn't give an effort or do all the right things, but because his talents didn't suit what he was asked to do. We need to remember sometimes that these are 18-23 year old kids who are put in the situations they are put in by 30-60 year old coaches who sometimes don't put them in positions to succeed. I hope Clayton has found a spot where they will use his God-given talents in a way that can give him an opportunity for success. I'm glad he can be closer to his mother and I wish nothing but the best for her.
