Thanks for your post Monica. Don't be offended by that guy, he's posted nothing but stupidity since he's been on here. I played for your dad and not only is he the greatest coach I ever had, he's also one of the best men I've ever had the privledge of knowing. I can't wait until he's back in Akron.

Wayne State vs. Winston-Salem live on ESPN3
InTheZone replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Winston-Salem came in averaging 41 points a game. Wayne holds them to 14, and 7 of that really was given up by the offense. Whether or not Coach Winters gets the job here or not, which I believe he has to, I'm extremely happy for him tonight. He deserves this, and the journey he's taken with that program is truely remarkable. -

Winston-Salem ball on their own 5 with 2:04 left. Still 21-14 Wayne. -
Like to shuffle this just a bit. 1. unnamed candidate -- if he is who I think he is. Most of you will be very pleased. 2. Narduzzi -- excellent choice. 3. Johnson -- long shot, a really long shot 4. Winters -- now revealing why I place excellent coach Winters here. Moderated - comment removed What the f&$@ are you talking about? Coach Winters daughters are all either in high school or college, and the one's in high school go to Stow! Just get the hell off the board if you're going to spread around shit like that.

Winston Salem driving, has hit on the draw a couple times. Should slow the Wayne pass rush down a bit. -

Sweet. Winston-Salem is undefeated, and, I belive, ranked #1 in the country. Yes unbeaten, and one of the most prolific offenses in the country getting shut out. I hope Winters brings this D-coordinator with him, because he has some crazy and creative blitz packages. 2 down, 3 down, 4 down, 1 down, backers coming, safeties coming, d-lineman dropping... the Winston-Salem o-line has no clue right now. Winston Salem can't score because their QB doesn't have time to get the ball out of his hand. -

Someone said earlier that you could get a stream of the game on the NCAA site, but it's probably just a stationary camera feed. It's a link to ESPN3. Will you keep us updated? Absolutely. -

I still have an active relationship with Coach Winters, and I can say this with certainty: Coach Winters absolutely positively 100 percent wants this job. After Owens was fired in '03 he campaigned HARD for it, interviewed, but Mike Thomas was set on going outside the program (which set the program back in my opinion, as we would've had MAC titles in '04 and '05 with Winters at the helm, and would've avoided the recruiting diasters of a man who didn't know how to recruit for this level, but that's a topic for another day). He went hard after it again in '09 when Ianello was hired. Some of you may think that maybe after two rejections he became bitter and doesn't want the job anymore, but that's just not the case. He understood that though he had started from scratch with one of the worst programs in America, he was still coming off a 6-5 record at a D2 school and hadn't accomplished what he wanted to accomplish at WSU. He's obviously in a much better position this year to be a much more attractive candidate. Coach Winters loves Akron, wants this program to be elite, and, even with the state of the program now, there is no job in the country he would rather have. There is no other candidate in this process that we could say that about. This guy bleeds Blue and Gold, and it came across every single day in practice when he was my OC. Others have adequately explained his recent denial that he's coming here.. He wants the job, but he also wants a National Championship, and he has to kill any speculation that distracts his team from that goal until it is achieved. TW is waiting on him to finish out his season, and he will then be our next head football coach. Take it to the bank.

I'm a Ron Paul man myself. Regardless, the disaster currently occupying the White House needs to go. Maybe this is a whole nother topic of discussion, but the similarities between the leadership qualities and situations between Rob Ianello and Barack Obama, as well as our nation and our football program, are quite striking when you really stop to think about them.

Owens already rebuilt the program once from the mess that Faust left, why would he want to do it again with JD and RI's?

This is why Proenza had better put together a hell of a Search Committee to find the coach. F the opinion fans on ZNO, make the right hire and lets get this thing turned around. Ummm..... no. This administration knows they have F'd the fans enough, and they are not going to make a hire such as Ianello again that may come out of a "process" but leaves everyone saying WTF and then places the blame squarely on them if and when he fails. If they all want to save their asses, they'll hire someone the fans and alumni are behind, which at this point can really only either be a big name or Paul Winters (Mike Johnson has alumni support too, but doesn't want the gig). If they go with a choice of the fans, everyone shares in the blame as a community when the guy fails. They go out on a limb, its squarely on their ass again, and they know they can't survive that.

We really need to understand that we are rock bottom right now. We didn't just fail to win a game against a FBS team last year, 90% of those games weren't even close. When you are giving up almost 70 points to Western Michigan when they are taking their foot off the pedal in the second quarter, you have a long way to go as a program. I could actually handle another one win season next year, so long as we are at least COMPETITIVE in the games and look like we have any semblance of a strategy and knowing what the hell we are doing. We have to be realistic... that would be significant progress for next season. If the new guy comes in and does a GREAT job, his tenure will look something like this: Year ONE- 1-2 wins, but COMPETITIVE in all MAC games Year TWO- 3-5 wins Year THREE- 5-7 wins, starting to look like a football team Year FOUR- 6-9 wins, challenge for MAC supremacy Year FIVE- 8-11 wins, MAC Title Again, I think we are going to have to measure "progress" next year in terms other than wins, as this team didn't just lose 11 games, they didn't come close to not losing 11 games. This thing will take time to build, but a great head coach can have this thing competitive by Year 2 and challenging for titles by Year 4.

Wow, that was some extensive search, good thing they brought Tressel and everybody else in. How long does it take to type in z-i-p-s-n-a-t-i-o-n-.-o-r-g? End of search. No wonder he has time to answer emails. The right hire is the right hire. Props to TW.

I have never been a TW supporter, but I will give him credit for this.... I and every other alumni football player that I've heard from that has emailed him about this coaching search has recieved a quick and personal response from him addressing all of the points in our emails, answering all of our questions, and stating that he really wants the football alumni to be part of this process. Tons of guys are making themselves part of the process and our choice is unanimous. Getting alumni involved in the program is great and has been a long time coming at Akron. Friends of mine that played at other 1-A schools have great alumni associations that are very involved in their programs and made to feel like they should be. There are strong connections between the past and present, and that creates a sense of pride. That has never happened here at Akron, and that's why you see all of our higher profile alumni completely absent in promoting the program (JT, Vic Green, Charlie, Chase, Hix, Jamie Reader, D Smith, etc etc). Whether he takes our advice on the best man to lead this program is up to him, but we may finally have an AD that understands the importance and benefits of alumni involvement. Now that doesn't excuse him for some of the bs decisions and policies he implemented in his first two years here, but its certainly a step in the right direction.

I'll buy you and JZ84 a beer after the game. Sounds like a plan.
