  2. I hope the reports on Woodson's lack of work ethic and weight aren't true. He's by far the most talented QB on the roster at this point.
  3. Lee Owens runs one of the simplest offenses in college football. I know because I played in it. Chapman may have missed part of camp, but that offense is literally one you can pick up within a week or two. The quarterback is not asked to make complex reads or checks, and a lot of throws are predetermined based on one factor reads at the line. Case in point on the ease of picking it up: A true freshman QB started at Ashland in 2014, the year after Chapman's struggles, and was conference freshman of the year. Chapman, simply, was not good. Ashland plays a high level of D2 ball, but there's still a gap there between their opponents and the MAC. If Chapman stunk in Lee O's offense in the GLIAC, he's going to be that much worse in the MAC.
  4. The only thing Chapman has shown is that he sucks in D2 ball. We're in trouble at QB.
  5. I think it's foolish not to come back and have a good chunk of a graduate degree plus your living expenses paid for, but that's just me. I don't see Zach catching on in the NFL, but I'll be rooting for him.
  6. God help us if Chapman is the starting QB. He sucked at a D2 school. The improvement Ashland made this year with pretty much the exact same team, save a new QB, was marked. This kid shouldn't even be on scholarship.
  7. I think you have no clue what you're talking about. I'm a former UA athlete and still know a lot of people within the athletic department. I think some of the older posters will testify to the fact that I've given good information in the past. I'm hearing what I say from people directly within the athletic department. Not necessarily the decision makers, but people who know what's going on. If you have a better source, then either say so or shut up. Don't come on here with that ambiguous crap.
  8. I have it on good information that, should Tree continue to meet certain conditions, he could and probably will rejoin the team at some point this season. Don't move on yet. He'd be a huge addition, and a fresh body, for a late season push.
  9. I in no way condone domestic violence or hitting women. I think it's despicable. That being said, I do believe that when people make mistakes, if they're contrite, admit that they were wrong, and seek to change, they deserve a second chance. If Tree is doing all the right things and taking the proper steps to display remorse and rehabilitation, should the University allow him back on the team come January?
  10. I hope the empty stadium didn't change their mind. How embarrassing.
  11. If we go 6-6 we have a reasonably good chance at a bowl game. A victory in that game would put us at 7-6, the most wins for the Zips in almost ten years. It would also be our first bowl victory ever. This can still be a year in which a large step forward is taken by the program.
  12. Those of you saying that if we went 44-10 over 4 years that we'd only average 20-22,000, I don't think you understand how hungry most people are in NEO to have a team they claim as their own a winner (yes people ride the Buckeye bandwagon, but they are not a local team, and when you say you're from NEO, people don't automatically think "Buckeyes"). If we had that kind of sustained success, in this region, we would gain all kinds of new fans. Akron games would be a cool place to be. The Info is small enough, we could sell it out for most home games. We just need a winner. .500 seasons, which is what we're heading for, isn't going to cut it. We start seeing some 10 win seasons, the culture around this University's sports program will transform. We've never had anything close to that, so we can't imagine it, but it's happened at plenty of other places. Hell, Florida State was a crap program when TB's dad got there, and look at that atmosphere they had Saturday. Boise State used to be a community college. When I was growing up, nobody gave a rat's ass about Oregon football. When our parents were growing up, nobody gave a rat's ass about the Miami Hurricanes, and then a couple local studs decided to stay at home and "the U" was born. It can happen here. Unlike many MAC schools and most mid-majors, we're in a large metropolitan area, and we're the only game in town. Think bigger.
  13. Toledo is the 3rd favorite school in their own city, and not listed anywhere else. Ouch.
  14. Of course these things are meaningless, but it's nice to be given props. Notice on the list that we are 3rd in the MAC, and ahead of such teams as Michigan, Kentucky, and even everyone's mid-major wet dream, Boise State. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/cbs/128
  15. I'm not that drunk
  16. No offense Lady Zip but I think you're smokin Pohl's pole. KP may be a serviceable (pun intended) option the rest of the season, but I'm really hoping a young guy steps up and takes his job for 2015.
  17. Go Fuckin ZIPS!!!!
  18. Bullshit, your entire argument was that it would "kill the confidence of the team" to give another QB snaps (which shows me right here you never played a damn down in your life). Those couple of series with Woodson today really put the team into the toilet confidence wise, huh? You said nothing about the relative skill levels of Pohl to Woodson. Quite frankly, this game didn't even show that Pohl was better, they both played like shit. It just showed that we don't have a QB. You argument against playing other guys at the position was complete BS and shown to be so.
  19. I guess TB is just as "ignorant" and "high school thinking" as I am. You're a fucking idiot. Non-conference games are the time to figure out your QB situation, and TB was clearly thinking the same as I was: your starter has sucked, so give the other guy meaningful snaps and see what he's got. Unfortunately for the Zips, that wasn't much, and we head into conference play without a viable QB. It was certainly worth finding out though. Hopefully we can continue to employ the same formula as we did today and win with the running game and solid defense.
  20. I would agree with you if I'd ever seen anything from Pohl in the first place. He's had some good games against God awful defenses here and there, but has never been consistent and has never been able to drop back, go through his reads at a speed that a good QB should, and deal the ball with confidence. Honestly, before he was hurt I thought Hirschman looked better running TB's offense. And even as physically limited as Dalton Williams was, you put him on this team and we would've beaten Penn State. Pohl has a decent arm and some athletic ability, but doesn't have it upstairs. Being a great quarterback, especially at the collegiate level, is 80 percent acumen and 20 percent arm strength. Woodson, at least in what I've seen of him (which granted has been limited and in very low pressure situations), makes his reads and gets the ball out much quicker than Pohl. I don't see any harm in working the kid in and seeing what he can do if Pohl continues to flounder.
  21. If Pohl goes into Heinz and lays another egg, it may be time to work Woodson into the mix with meaningful snaps and see if he can bring a spark. This team has too much talent at wideout to suck this bad on offense.
  22. He went to a D2 school knowing D2 schools can cover full tuition, but cannot provide living expenses. He then demands something he knows is unavailable, and abandons a program he made a commitment to. He was banished from the Pitt football team for similar entitled behavior. Perhaps forming an educated opinion of your own before attacking mine would be wise next time.
  23. Tra'von Chapman, a former 4 star recruit to Pitt who played at Ashland last fall, wants to enroll at Akron. I say save the scholarship. He didn't exactly light the world on fire at the D2 level, and from the looks of his reason for transferring, he appears to be an entitled little turd. http://www.wmfd.com/local-sports/single.asp?story=60375
  24. Did we miss this?? "...., a relationship with his father — Pro Football Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas —....." Derrick Thomas was one of the most gifted athletes to ever suit up in the NFL Hopefully the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
