I guess this is why we have no coaches.......Kudos to Coach Lolla and staff. BAH bye to our only nationally ranked program.
-
At the MCB, I heard he was being considered. Not sure if he is interested.....There were no comments on this? Out of sight out of mind? Dont think it is a big deal? Curious......
-
We need to announce a successor now! This looks terrible.....elite 8 team ranked #1 for a good portion of the year WITH NO COACHES? What are the players thinking? What are recruits thinking? Do we have any recruits?Come on!Shaun Docking

Can't wait to see him with Edwards and Winslow next year.

Who said "Don't feed the troll"? Seems appropriate here..........

I hate to lose, but I sure was proud of the school. Classy move when J.D. and the team applauded the fans before going in to the lockeroom. Hopefully the start of a great relationship between the school and community.

You guys are missing the point. All I am saying is that we have a game to play on Monday and everyone (including coaches) needs to be focused on the task at hand. Leaving the next day for a new job does not lend itself to focus.

Thanks Quickzip, that was my point exactly. Not once in the article does he mention WINNING the bowl game. That is the player's dream come true. I want a staff and players with one thing on their mind "WINNING THE MCB". It does not appear as though his head is 100% in to this game, that is not good. I would have atleast like to have seen "I am excited about going back to my alma mater, but we have unfinished business to take care of in Detroit, winning the MCB. These guys have given me their all and we are about to do something that has never been done before in the school's history". In this case, he does OWE us his commitment. Whatever he does after that is his choice and we wish him well.

I love this part. Gee, thanks.

Are you kidding me! Why would players listen to a guy that wants to finish the game and go home. Hit the road, NOW! I don't want this in the lockeroom! Here is the link Wallerstedt Going Home!! Yipee

And what do you expect to get from this other than a well crafted, politically correct report? Huh? Do you really think the other candidates would like that published? Not sure why you would make this post.......There are many factors that are obvious for Macks hire. Are you questioning Dr. Proenza? For this job, EVERYONE interviewed is qualified. Hiring and interviewing is an art not a science. Cmon Man, be happy. We have a great new A.D. and Associate A.D.

Love it! Go Kiki! You should be PROUD!

I was impressed with his press conference (webcast finally worked). He spoke without notes, delivered a solid message, addressed everyone by name, and seems to have a lot of passion. His experience at UTEP should be a great benefit to us and I would imagine that had a lot to do with his hiring. If he can replicate what was done at UTEP, cheers. For what it is worth, we now have Mack Rhoades and UAM..........pretty strong guys!

Ken Lolla accepts job at Louisville
a-zip replied to Johnny Utah's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We have beaten this in to the ground, but I have 1 more question for Zipper and Zipalong since you seem somewhat defensive of Coach Lolla. What is your take on Coach Lolla accepting a 5 year contract, and backing out 1 month later. The simple answer is family, goals, bla bla bla. But, why accept it? -
Based on this post, I would say it was user error.

Someone is stepping in to a nice situation, keep the ball rolling.

Don't know him, but I like him already.

There are NO negative comments about Ken Lolla as a person. We gave him our support and I wish he and his family well. He made a decision he feels is best. I don't believe anyone questions his integrity, leadership or ability. It is futile for us to compare our own situations or speculate on his decisions. It's done. NOW now he is a competitor. Thats all. Akron played 4 MAC teams in soccer during the regular season, the rest was filled with ranked teams(SMU, Maryland, Penn St, St Johns, Indiana),historically good teams(Princeton, Evansville) and big schools(Kentucky, Ohio St, Michigan, etc). The MAC affiliation means nothing, unlike football and bball. This program is solid enough and if we post the same results next year - the appropriate seeding will follow. Keep in mind we were unranked before the season started. We won't be next year. -

Nice talking with you Zipper. Keep one thing in mind...Coach Lolla will be using his success and experience at Akron to recruit against us and beat us. So for me to wish him well would be hypocritical. LETS GET SHAUN DOCKING NOW, finish and lock up our recruits so we don't miss a beat! Shaun Docking Bio -
Agreed, 30-35k would be a nice size. Let me tell ya, Uconn's Rentschler Field is beautiful and seats about 40k. Rentschler Field Replicate that with 30-35k seats and less suites......WOW. My vote is for a smaller enclosed stadium like this. Intimate and Loud!

I do not have a "Dissociative Identity Disorder" I don't claim to be right. I give my opinions and don't feel compelled to support them under an alias....that would be redundant. I thanked Ken with my support over the years. I also praised UofA for giving him an extension and in a post I made months ago. My quote is below.... I hope prospective coaches look at the posts and say "this is a passionate fan base and institution that is hungry for a champion" I have one overlying message in most posts I have made. WE NEED TO KEEP GOOD PEOPLE AROUND. I said it about Brookhart, Dambrot, Lolla and Thomas. If it is money, PAY EM', build smaller stadiums with room for expansion, when they are consistently filled, expand them. If a 40,000 seat stadium costs $60 mill and a 30,000 seat stadium costs $45 mill, take the $15 mill saved and lock up these great coaches. It appears as though that is what the school tried to do with Coach Lolla. Call me foolish, but I sincerely believe Akron can consistently compete in post season in all sports. -

So now I am a pussy and a hypocrite. FYI- I graduated from UA 20 years ago and have made many career decisions that included relocating my family. I accepted some, rejected others. Within each decision, family, career goals, money, challenge were all factors taken in to consideration. The fact is that neither you or I know what went in to his decision and everyone makes decisions for different reasons. I am not arguing that point and it is none of my business. What I do know is this. HE IS NO LONGER A ZIP and my loyalty is not to Lolla, it is to the UofA. If I extended a 5 year committment to one of my employees and they subsequently made a decision to go to a competitor, I would wish them well but kick their ass whenever we were in a competitive situation. I guess you sided with Terrell Owens too, he held out so he could provide a living for his family. He helped bring the Eagles to the superbowl and played injured in the Superbowl. What do you think the Philly fans will do if T.O. comes to play in Philly. If Lolla is so goal oriented.......was his goal to reach the elite 8? (that is not as good as the previous soccer coach at Akron). If he is looking for a challenge, how is taking a "mid major" and winning the championship not a challenge. If his goal was to win a national championship, he is closer to it at Akron than Louisville -

Hey Zipper, it is as simple as this.......... AKRON ZIPS SOCCER = me LOUISVILLE SOCCER KEN LOLLA 1- He was offered and excepted an extension earlier this year 2- The school matched the Louisville offer 3 - He has tremendous support from the fans 4- He would return a talented and young team 5- The Zips would no doubt enter next year as a Top 5 team 6- He signed recruits that will likely reconsider decisions on a coachless team With regards to your argument about the conference and quality of play, lets compare Teams played in NCAA Final top 25 Zips-5, SMU, Maryland, Penn St, St Johns, Indiana. Louisville - 4, UConn, Notre Dame, St Johns, Indiana Teams played in Preseason Top 25 Zips- 6, SMU, Maryland, Ohio St, Penn St, St Johns, Indiana Louisville -5, UConn, Notre Dame, St Johns, Indiana, Ohio St. How about tradition......who has more NCAA appearances, more Elite 8 appearances, been ranked the longest? Mr. Lolla did inherit a great program. So, is'nt Mr Lolla doing the same thing the NCAA did.....Disregarding success on the field and choosing a more well known school? He is turning his back on us, giving us no respect just like everyone else! So........ -
