I reserve the right to comment on this post at a later date. There are a lot of misperceptions about Dennison and Huggins I would like to add. Keeping them was not as easy as you might think. I cant wait to hear about this.......

AND we would have a better chance getting TV time. It sounds like too much of a chore to get proper lighting. I sure hope they build a new stadium. I live in the Washington DC area and would love to come a game but I have to say it is not worth the right now to drive to a rundown, isolated stadium.
-
We are thinking the same things.............. 1- A new stadium, along with the facilities already built, would influence JDs decision to essentially BUILD and sustain a winning program from scratch. (I always look at Boise St. and wonder how they keep their coach). It can be done. 2- The hiring of Solich INTO the MAC lends credibility and hopefully another team committed to excellence. The fact is, all the schools in the MAC need eachother to do well if we are going to start getting bids in BBall and FBall. 3- If Dambrot continues his success and stays, it will add to the overall awareness of the school........SOCCER TOO! It is nice to continuously see your school in the media and playing for championships. The whole thing could snowball into something great.

Things are good, hate to bring in anything bad but................... We have a hot young coach who has shown a great talent for recruiting, motivating and strategy. What are the chances we are able to keep him long term and what would it take? OR will he be another contribution from the "Cradle of Coaches, MAC". I am not sure what his contract looks like but with all the momentum we have going in ALL sports it would be a major setback to lose him. Sure would be nice to have stability with JD and Dambrot, we could really have something! Oh yea, Mike Thomas has got to be a hot candidate too.

Wish I was there. Looks great going into the 2nd half.

Unbelievable that the girl working out in the picture is wearing a TOLEDO BASKETBALL shirt!

Oh the poor little Zips are going to get killed...... Oh my I hope nobody gets hurt...... Halftime Score 28 -14 Purdue...... For say the Zips will get killed!!!!!! Oh I think the score will be 65 - 7 Purdue!!!!!! If they were losing 28-14 at the half......How could it be 65-7 for a final!

THE MARSHALL GAME WAS ONE OF THE SINGLE MOST EXCITING GAMES OF THE YEAR,,,,,,TOO BAD NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE GOT TO SEE IT (INCLUDING THE ZIPS FANS). it was a win!

I have not had an opportunity to see the team first hand but reading between the lines of posts and releases on the UA website it appears as though Ferguson is scoring more and is statistically better. JD has to play the better player and there has got to be loyalty to Hixon having a QB that can get him the ball. We can't afford to lose the momentum that has been built in the last 2 years. This is the highest point sports has been in since 85-86 when the football team went to the 1aa playoffs, soccer played for the national championship vs Duke, and BBall lost the the Fab4 in March Madness. Many players are gamers, lets hope that is the case with Getsy. If not, the staff is going to play the player that will provide the best opportunity to win. Let me stir the pot a little more...........I believe Carlton Jackson came to Akron to play QB. He is one of the more heralded recruits we have ever had. I heard Jacquemain looks better. How will this situation unfold?

Dont know, but dont we already have a good bunch of TEs?

Frye to ditch 5 and where number 9 for Cleveland

Josh Harris already has 5. I doubt Charlie cares too much.... -
No. Va and the D.C. area has some players. I believe Cant St and BG have been hitting Maryland pretty hard. Have we ever had a player from No. Va in the past?

"Newbies geeked up!" That is funny. I was simply stating an opinion. Is'nt what this forum is for? And OFCOURSE we would not be having this conversation if we had made it to postseason. I'll tell you what- I will just let the 3-4 of you "old Timers" talk amongst yourselves.
-
You are correct, the teams were not championship caliber in the begining of the season but they sure had a chance at the end. Answer three questions........... Were the teams eligible for postseason play? Did less deserving teams make it to postseason play? Why did the Zips not make it to postseason play?

"I was in Can't 7 years ago when we beat them in hoops for the first time in 31 years (in Can't). Us Akron fans sat in the Can't student section behind a hoop. There were plenty of empty seats. That game drew about 3,000 fans. 2,000 were Akron fans...it was like a home game." BTW- you supported my point...
-
My point has to do with my belief that the football team and basketball team should have seen postseason play and the reason it did not happen is because of the lousy Akron fans. The teams played good enough. Football, we beat Marshall but they got the bowl bid - we were the only bowl eligible team not to get a game. In basketball, we had the highest RPI rating of any team to not to get postseason invite. I am not pointing out the individuals on this board as i am sure you are all loyal fans. Let me say this.........The Rubber Bowl and JAR can be loud places offering a tremendous homefield advantage. The teams would do better with these venues filled. And the committees that make invites to post season would take more notice if they thought people cared about the teams. In football, we have to travel to Penn State, Iowa, Maryland, Virginia etc early in the season. We get thumped and come home to an empty home field. VERY INSPIRING.... This past season was the best, gutsiest team in a while with a legit Heisman candidate who did a lot for the community. The community does nothing for the teams! What is the answer? I don't know. It is kinda like the chicken and the egg. The administration seems to be doing everything they can. I hope all these new facilities don't go to waste.

There is one reason why football AND basketball got snubbed. THE FANS! PERIOD! Both team overachieved, played well and won big games. Remember Akron vs. Marshall this year. That was one of the best games of the year. Unfortunately only 30% of the fans that went to the game were there for the end (that leaves about 5K people). It is embarrassing and reflects poorly on our ability to draw fans. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ABOUT! Basketball, we went on a tear at the end of the season, won a big game against Miami. The University, athletic dept, coaches and players are doing their part. Heck, they are practically giving tickets away and nobody will go. Until people stop whatever they are doing, go to the Bowl or JAR we will not see any big schools come to Akron or postseason play.
