I know this a rather trifling comment but............Since we are going to be on National TV on Thanksgiving, I wish we were wearing our new/current uniforms. No disrespect to the teams of the past but since we are going to be on display nationally, shouldnt we look up to date. I am skeptical about the timing and turnout for this game, but definately dont agree with the timing of the throwback uniforms. It's not like the nation is going to go run out buy throwback Akron jerseys. BTW, I still have mine and will be wearing it.

Great leaders know that great people are the key, W-Ls are not everything in the first years. If I was AD, I would want a recruiter, charisma, and an Xs-Os guy......... if you say KD needs a couple years, I says he will be bought. I was hoping he was a homer and will stay to be a legend.

I will keep my faith in LP like the majority does. I am of the mind that "if it ain't broke, don't break it." I would sacrifice a few bones to keep quality people if it costs a couple less stands or suites in the "new stadium"...... It won't get filled anyways...and BTW you CAN plan for expansion! What if, the Zips lost to St Johns or tied......... :blink: Would they still be number 1? They have quality wins and would have lost/tied to the #3 team. All other teams ranked have losses and or ties. Akron - wins against Maryland, Buffalo, SMU, and Penn St. New Mexico - tie against unranked St Johns - 1 loss, 3 ties UNC - 2 loss, 1 tie Uconn - 2 lost, 1 tie UVA - 1 loss, 2 tie Indiana - 1 loss, 3 tie Hopefully it does not happen, but St Johns does not give up many goals. Projection...........1 - nil Zips.

Capt, I would not say we are a-holes because we don't agree with you that fan support doesnt affect a team. I also think it is sad when a team plays their hearts out and nobody stays to watch. Those are 2 comments you made that I don't agree with. Some of us are ex-players giving you insight to the impact the crowd has and each of us would also like to see the program become successful. I don't bash the true Zip fans, the few there are, I wonder where the rest of the community is. Also praise to the mothers and fathers of the players. I am skeptical a new stadium will get filled, because it would take the community to fill it.............they would still have to drive somewhere, it will still be cold, and we might lose a game or two (we might even get outscored in a half). I think when recruits and bowl representatives see an Akron game, they look for other options. I think a new stadium stadium would be nice, but think the people running the programs and teams are more important. I would like to see the school, former students and the community reap the benefits of a nationally known university. And I would like people to stop asking me..."why did you go to Akron?"

The standing room only crowd of 2,319 fans that filled Lee Jackson field Friday for the game against Ohio State gave the players and coaches a big home field advantage. Any former player will tell you it matters A LOT. Look at quotes from players and coaches in college and pros that credit fans for helping them win games. There are two immediate affects it has....... 1- The home team gets inspired and pumped up to run through walls. 2- The visiting team gets rattled and it is much harder to run a no huddle offense and make a comeback if the team can't hear signals and audibles. Your second comment was..... Huh? (See #2 above)The so called Zip fans leave no matter what! If the Zips blow somebody out - they leave. If they are getting blown out - they leave. If they are making a comeback - they leave. One thing they should have learned in the last 2 years is that the outcome is not determined until the final whistle has blown. The Marshall game last year was one of the single best games I have seen in a while. (I paid more to see it on PPV than most of the people at the game). I was embarrassed when my buddies, as well as the announcers, commented on the people leaving as the Zips were making a miraculous comeback. They made the comeback despite the lame fans because they were fighting to make a bowl game and make an impression on TV. The team that got the final bowl bid was getting blown out 21-0 in the first half and came back to win. I will give you the benefit since there is a lot more to do in Akron than Hawaii. As bowl season begins, Akron left out by slimmest of margins Associated Press Starting Tuesday night with the New Orleans Bowl, 28 bowl games were to be played over the next three weeks, involving nearly half the teams in Division I-A. More than enough, right? Don't try telling that to the Akron Zips. They were the only team in Division I-A eligible and willing to play in this postseason that got left out. Sounds like the bandwagon is being put in the garage, very sad. I, for one, am optimistic about the team, the coach and the future of Zip athletics. "In the Zone" - nice work, you had some of the best observations yet............ Since I was the one that started the comment about keeping JD(aka Urban Myer), I stand by my comments and WOULD like to see the talented people we HAVE, stay in tact. ALL OF THEM! Regarding the team and the loss......They are young and trying to make something happen, give em' a break. Regarding the so called fans of Zips athletics, they don't exist.......The majority of them are made up of mothers/fathers of the players and some folks on this board. Thats it! Sad again. Where are the rest of the 250,000+ in Akron. What is there that is so much fun to do in Akron? Is it because they need a winnner? If that is the case, we better build up the soccer stadium huh. I heard there was a good crowd at the last soccer game...........oh yea, it was Ohio State. Seriously, where are the hot spots in Akron, i missed them. Blame it on the coaches, Blame it on the players, Blame it on the stadium, Blame it on the newspaper, etc. etc. etc.

All I am trying to bring to light is that for Akron and the MAC as a whole to be competitive........we need stability. If you have good people, make them happy and keep them. In the business world it cost 3 times as much to hire replacements, train them and ramp them up vs. replacing a successful tenured person. I agree that this conversation MAY be premature but JD aint Lee Owens or Faust, Dambrot aint Hipsher or Crawford and the Mike Thomas aint (whatever his name was). How long has it taken FB and BBall to be competitive since we lost Coach Dennison and Huggins and that AD? Regardless of the win/loss records at the end of the year, they have both shown an amazing ability to recruit. That is HALF the battle.
