Are you ready for some football
Ryno aka Menace replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Being from the Massillon area I figured I might post something...I also hear because of job cuts etc. in Stark County that Massillon may become a D-II school. It is not because of job cuts it is because it is simply rule change in an attempt to make the playing field fair.Tom Stacey (ex- Akron QB coach) is doing a wonderful job at MassillonBeginning with the 2007 school year, the top 10 percent of the largest schools will make up Division I.According to the OHSAA, there are 716 football-playing schools, and Division I will be made up of 72 teams, 44 fewer than this season. The rule applies only to football, because it is the only sport with six divisions. The change means Massillon Washington High School, which played for a Division I football title last season, could compete for a Division II title if the school district so chooses. As part of the change, the OHSAA will allow any school in a smaller division to compete in Division I if it chooses, for a two-year commitment.Massillon may not be the only area high school affected. Hoover and Perry could get bumped to Division II as well, depending on enrollment figures taken next year and how many schools play football.here is the linkhttp://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?Category=17&ID=301896&r=0 -

Which MAC Teams will beat a BCS team this year
Ryno aka Menace replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I would take Akron, Toledo, Miami, BGSU, NIU, Pitt, Cinci, Louie, West Virginia, Maryland, Memphis, Syracuse...that makes a 12 member conference with it divided as east and west.Conference USA should take USF in replace of Memphis that keeps that conference as a 12 team conference. And Marshall, UConn, Rutgers, should go to the mac to replace the teams that left!Peace out. -
I think there might be, I wonder if any other ohio MAC schools share our frustration? Come to think of it I don't hear much about Cinci either I guess the entire state only cares about Columbus State.

Men's Soccer Predictions
Ryno aka Menace replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Hmm I don't know much about soccer but if we finished in the top 5 last year and are expected to be ranked then there is no reason why the can't win it all. -
Which MAC Teams will beat a BCS team this year
Ryno aka Menace replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
An even better chance with Cinci, they are in a BCS conference as well, the Big Deceased or Least or what ever they are calling it now.Our conference could look really good this year if we knock some so called big boys off, some publications ranked our conference second to last, only better than the Sunbelt. We need to change that! -

sorry if this has been done already, but after the first week which teams do you think will beat a BCS team?Boston College at Central MichiganNorthwestern at Miami (OH)Minnesota at Can't State Toledo at Iowa StateNorthern Illinois at #1 Ohio StateAkron at #19 Penn StateWestern Michigan at IndianaWisconsin at Bowling GreenI think Miami, Toledo, and Western Michigan have great chances.....Akron and NIU have a chance...and Central, Can't, and BGSU have no chance! -
Man this is pure bull sheet! I think Luke is definately a top 200 player as well as Kiki G, man to many people still don't recognize....but they will....oh they will!!!http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2006/Pr...layers_1_50.htm

I believe Massillon has the hardest schedule in the state of Ohio....H North Park, Ont. (CA) 8/25 - 7:30PH Woodson, Wash. DC 9/2 - 7:30PA Cin. Moeller 9/9 - 4:00PH Hamilton, Chandler AZ 9/16 - 8:00PA Mentor 9/22 - 7:30PH St. Ignatius 9/29 - 7:30PH Akron Buchtel 10/6 - 7:30PA Warren Harding 10/14 - 7:30PH Cin. Western Hills 10/21 - 7:30PH Canton McKinley 10/28 - 2:00PThey play 3 out of state teams and have only 3 away games!!

I like Thursday night football...Hell Football is on every night of the week except Wednsday. And I watch highlights all day on Wed. just to do it all over again the following week!!
-
Hey and if that doesn't work I'm send a hard pipe hitt'n brotha like this to everyones house in the greater Akron area and have Marcellus ask them why the ain't at the game.......
-
I see you point now that you elaborated, but I think the critics feel we will get up for the big game because we have something to prove and then have a let down the following week because of being on a high and not taking the following week as serious. I easily see that happening. Kinda like when we should have beat Army and lost. Northern Ill was better than Army and we beat them twice. Everyone knows we have a tendacy to lose games we should win and win games we shouldn't. Driving Akron fans crazy....just like the Browns.

90. Akron Akron PreviewPredicted Finish: 7-5 2005 Predicted Finish: 5-6 2005 Record: 7-6After winning the MAC title, J.D. Brookhart's crew wants to do even more, and it has the talent to do it with 16 returning starters led by what should be one of the MAC's best defenses. To get back to the championship game and earn another bowl bid, the Zips have to be far more consistent and get steadier play out of both sides of the ball. Considering where the defense was a few seasons ago, to even be considered among the best in the MAC shows how quickly Brookhart and his staff have turned things around. The offense could be another story, at least early on, needing to replace the top receivers along with 1,000-yard back Brett Biggs. However, quarterback Luke Getsy should be able to build on a great end to 2005 and be one of the MAC's best passers, while all five starters return to what should be a top offensive line.Relative Strengths: quarterbacks, offensive line Relative Weaknesses: special teams, running backsHere is the link!!I do agree with this analysis but I don't agree with the ranking, I think we are definatly better nationally than that!! A great O-line and a great QB...that's the foundation of a good offense.

Well bobby I hope the team doesn't have your attitude about the game cause if they do they will never achieve greatness. The game is 80% mental, I am sure you have heard the phrase if you believe you can achieve. Well the team needs to believe in their abilities and we need to believe in them as well. I remember as a player students would ask me why does Akron play some of these big schools knowing they will never win? It used to burn my ass that someone would say something like that about their own school. It was an adjustment that i had to get used to cause in Massillon fan support was a given in college we had to try an earn fan support. Trust me an athlete may say what the fans say doesn't matter but when yor own fans don't believe in you it makes it that much more of an uphill battle. LOL I have a new attitude this year about the zips!! If you can't say the zips are gonna win don't say nothing at all.

USA Today re: Akron attendance
Ryno aka Menace replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Football
I agree this is a cheaters way of making it! Hopefully after another successful season we won't have to resort to such tactics to get people to come to Akron games. With that being said, our 1A stats is on the line, whether some of you want to admit it or not, and we need to come up with some creative ways to maintain our standing especially since we are becoming more competitive. -

If we had a new stadium we wouldn't have this problem, this is just another example of why we need another successful season. We got that ball rolling now let's just keep it going. -

I think he has a good chance this year alone there are 5 starting QB's that are coming off serious surgery and not all of them are gonna bounce back. So I think some teams are gonna be looking for a QB and he is already preseason ranked 10th best. I think he will be a 3rd round pick.

Man i remember that day I was like what the hell are you doing? I think some people get so programmed they don't think. Ultimately it cost him his job. -
You're joking right? Hopefully after this season that won't be so funny

Interesting article...makes me wonder why we don't here more about this kid. Did he get any preseason honors? Just Curious
