  1. :thumb:This is what I expect as well, anything less I will be disappointed!!!
  2. Yeah I know I use the zips alot actually cause the game doesn't make them really bad, They made Kennedy kinda slow though but Jabari and Brandon Williams are very good receivers in the game.

  4. Any updates on this kid?Peyton's Place: AkronPosted May 04, 2006 at 10:39 PMTampa Tribune staff writer Eddie Daniels recently wrote about former USF WR Johnny Peyton in the Tribune’s Pasco section and Peyton’s future destination. Here are some excerpts from Daniels’ story:Peyton said the only place USF coach Jim Leavitt will release him to is Akron and Peyton doesn’t seem to mind playing for Zips coach J.D. Brookhart, a former collegiate wide receiver who likes the passing game. Brookhart has established a passing offense since coming in 2004 from Pittsburgh, where he was wide receivers coach and recruited Peyton out of Pasco. “Of course, you know, it’s J.D.,” Peyton said when asked about Akron’s appeal. “I just want to be in a passing offense. I just want to catch the ball. I just want to play football. I just want to play.”Nothing is set in stone with Akron and Peyton may not have a school until this summer, but he said he has talked to Zips director of football operations Reno Ferri in hopes of establishing a future. Peyton played in 11 games last season. He wasn’t allowed to travel to the Meineke Car Care Bowl because he was tardy or missed various team functions throughout the year. The dismissal has given Peyton plenty to think about.“I can’t sit here and tell you I was a perfect angel,” Peyton said. “I ain’t going to sit here and tell you that everything that was done was justified. We had a misunderstanding, but hey, we’re OK now. We’re both going on. I’m gone. I’m going on about my life now. And whatever happened is in the past. I learned a lot from that situation. I learned a lot. It made me hungrier.”The only options he has now point out of state. Peyton said Leavitt told him he would not be released from his scholarship to play in Florida. Instead, his alternative may be to play in northeast Ohio.“I need to get away. I just need to get far away from home,” Peyton said. “I think it will help. I think I’ll be a little more focused, less distractions.”
  5. Anybody know when camp starts? And does anyone plan to go watch practice?
  6. I just glanced through the Big Ten magazine and they have write-ups about the MAC schools, the only knock they have on the Zips is that we are relying on unproven RB's and a mostly green receiving corps. "Can Luke Getsy play at a high level while surrounded by inexperienced skill players? The Zips also break in two new specialists to handle the kicking game."The positive is also what you would expect, "The conferences best QB". and an experienced OL that has depth. My thoughts are we have nothing to worry about, some have already express concerns on this board and I think we all talked about it beforebut after the spring game I feel very confident.I think the fact that we have depth at the OL position is going to be critical, alot of people don't realize how important a good OL is. A poor OL means you can't run or pass. With our OL giving Luke time to pass I think the fact that the WR are inexperienced is irrelevant. Do they know who our coach is? JDB - this man has coached Antonio Bryant, Larry Fitz, and Greg Lee to probably. Man he knows who can catch and who can't that is why he move Hixson. Man we are gonna be fine. If you think i am being to optimistic...so what!
  7. I would rather have a nice fan presence at the MCB, on national television, it equates to better exposure for the university, which equals better recruits which equals a win against Columbus State in 2008!!!
  8. I think this is a good thing. College football fans are almost forced to watch if your the only game on, plus it is bowl season, you start watching teams you might not have gotten to see just cause 1. they don't televise that team because of region or 2. your just curious as to what other teams look like or how they would compare to your favorite team. I think having a later bowl game will garner more exosure for the conference.
  9. Hmmm...that is a pretty good point, I just recall seeing alot or Wr's this year and last on the commit list.
  10. So what exactly does that mean? Will we have more coverage, or just properly written stories...ya know like who and when we play will be correct. Or does it mean what it should Zips on the front page of the sports instead of columbus state.
  11. I have a dumb question so please don't flame me for it. Anyway, to me it seems we are getting alot more early verbal commits. This seems like a great thing if they are the "top" recruits in the country, but they aren't, truthfully they are mid-level players. It is obvious that our success will continue, and it is no doubt that we will have another successfull season. Couldn't we be shooting ourselfs in the foot if there is a higher ranked player that wants to come to akron and we miss out because there are no avalible scholarships (position wise). You can't take back an offer can you? You have to weigh in so many factors like transfers coming in and out, grades, injuries, etc. and a general greater need at certain positions? What are your feeling on this? I understand that every kid you offer is not going to accept but there has got to be some sort of system. Also we seem to be getting alot of WR's do you think JD will switch to a run and gun type offense or what? Not necessarily a run and gun but a pass primarily offense?
  12. Man I remember seeing a deranged black guy holding a sign outside the games holding a sign that reads "Akron Exploits Black Athletes".....He never even changed his sign it was the exact same one for like a 5 year period, I was just curious if anyone seen this clown around. Being a former UA black athlete I used to wonder what the hell was his problem?
  13. You know what pisses me off when I tell people at work the exact same thing and they laugh! Hell some people out there still don't even know Akron is D1. I can't wait to have the last laugh!!Or anther question that burns me is "Why do Akron play these teams if they aren't going to win them?" I just chalk it under "you don't know college football, so I am not going to bother explaining it. Sorry I just hate it when people down here in columbus shit on anything that ain't a buckeye!

  15. I think I am gonna call and order a browns and a zips jersey,....do you think one phone call a day from some crazy guy in Columbus consititues as an "in demand item?" I really would like to purchase different numbers of the current jerseys.
  16. Awsome...THe Jefferson's would be jealous of how fast we move'n on up!
  17. I don't even consider this an upset, we should win this game. If we play soild football, to me that means ball control without giving up big plays, we should win.
  18. any football player that transfers his senior year is not getting any signifcate playing time. 1. If the player is really good he has left early to go pro, 2. If the player is good or decent he is getting playing time, 3. IF he sucks who cares he doesn't play. But I do agree how the hell can he complain.
  19. Here is a pretty good fact sheet on the subject Eminent domain is not magic. The University can not just wave a magic wand and say "eminent domain"and they receive the property they choose. It may wind up in court taking more than a year. Great info. and a great point but the point is they "could get the property" and what's the difference according to articles and blogs we are years away anyway. Why not get it started incase it is a long legal battle? I don't know much about real estate, but if you know you absolutely wanna put the stadium in a certain location, i would make sure I was definately getting the property, wouldn't you?! I wouldn't let 2, 3, or even 10 $20-$80 thousand dollar houses keep me from a million dollar project. And if it is more then lets say 10 houses or properties that are willing to sell, maybe "we" need to find an alternate location. So the stadium is only 3 years away instead of 5 to 10 years away. I don't know just my opinion, if I am missing something please fill me in I admit I don't know the first thing about real estate.
  20. I don't care what anyone says, if we continue to win games it will speed up the process of getting a new stadium. I kind of get the feeling that right now they are trying to get a new stadium just because it is time to get one, the feeling that the current one is falling apart. But if we keep winning it will be absolutely necessary for a new stadium. The fans feel it is absolutely necessary but I don't think the powers that be feel as strongly about it as the rest of us. I don't have a concern about people holding out for more money for their properties surrounding the stadium site, I have a friend in real estate and he says "if the university really wanted to they could ask the state for assistence in getting an Eminent domain. Eminent domain is a legal systems lawful power of the state to expropriate private property without the owner's consent, either for its own use or on behalf of a third party.Governments most commonly use the power of eminent domain when the acquisition of real property is necessary for the completion of a public project such as a road, and the owner of the required property is unwilling to negotiate a price for its sale. In many jurisdictions the power of eminent domain is tempered with a right that just compensation be made for the appropriation.
