  1. How does everyone know that Steward is going to be "all that"... remember he is a freshman also. It sounds like once he is heathly everything will be great, which I really don't believe.... you can't just rely himNot only did losing game #2 suck, but it seemed like the more things change, the more they stayed the same.We can't hit key free throws, our defensive rebounding is awful- we lead the country in not getting defensive rebounds off of MISSED FREE THROWS and we still need to find a go-to guy. Milum hoisting threes is not the answer.
  2. While we do not know how good Rogers is, CJ11 is not the answer. Getting a good frickin quarterback is the difference between 8-4 and 4-8 in the MAC. I'm watching the Oregon-Arizona game and Oregon's qb left with an injury. With the back-up in, Oregon looks like a second tier MAC school. They look, fat, slow, with poor special teams, an awful defense and I swear I'm watching CJ11 play on consecutive nights. A major BCS school looks this bad? It just goes to show how much a good quarterback hides other weaknesses.Good points.I've been saying on this board for years not that the first thing a team needs is a QB that can win games. In this day and age, that means a QB that is smart, mobile, above average arm and can run with the ball in the read option. You guys look at the highly ranked teams as your examples. My example would be Wake Forest. Wake has little to offer as a major college program and should never make a bowl game; however, Skinner is a smart and mobile QB with an above average arm that manages the spread offense very well and is a winner. They have six wins and will make a bowl game with very average to below average talent. The spread offense masks an average to below average offensive line. It can also move the ball enough and score enough points to mask a bad defense.Akron's problems have never been about defense or offensive line. It has almost always been about the lack of a QB that can win games when it really matters.Getting to another point on the board about Illinois not being better than OSU. That's just not true. Illinois came into Columbus and kicked OSU's ass up and down the field. At the end of the day, that means you are a better team. In the fourth quarter, they absolutely dominated that overrated defense OSU puts on the field. OSU's defense looks great against YSU, Akron and the host of bad teams they play in the Big Ten. It will look great today against that antiquated offense Michigan runs. Zook learned in the SEC what it takes to win in big time college football. With the exception of Northwestern and Indiana, nobody else runs the read option. Illinois wil be good for a lot of years because Zook knows it is about a mobile QB. Illinois is actually just getting started. In the near future, OSU's offense will be antiquated as well and they will try to run the read option with the talent they recruited and they will look like Akron this year trying to do it.I'm glad you made this last point...How much more can one team dominate the opponent, on the road, with everyone healthy and still be called inferior. But that's what happens when living in Ohno! And one more thing, how can the offsides on the fumble vs. MU be ignored. If that happened in c-bus, the entire city would be on fire.

  4. Finally a post I agree with BZ on. Our QB's are awful. And the coaches didn't help by bringing in Jackson on our own 20... and then having him throw on 3rd down was the worst coaching decision of the year. The OL was exposed and no one stepped up. Poindexter had the one pass CJ11 threw OK and he dropped it. Nate Davis was brought up on the board. I've said all year if we had him we are an 8-4 team. How the hell do the coaches not recruit him? An eastern ohio kid for the taking and he ends up in Indiana. Here was a guy that we needed to get to be successful. Relying on these qb will get JD to GP1's coaching graveyard. Finally, another MU-UA tilt with officiating controversy. ESPN just didn't re-show the play or even bring it up.MU was offsides on the fumble/TD and of course the penalty was not called.
  5. Let's not give The Vest any ideas here! He's probably been up all night trying to figure out a way to get Findlay on his football schedule. Did I see c-bus up in flames on Saturday night?
  6. Me, too. Then we wouldn't have to worry about the NFL broadcast blackouts....
  7. sgm405,There isn't a single poster on this board who took more crap since Frye's senior season than the great GP1. You should try to be as gracious and magnanimous as the great GP1. Believe me, I knew then I was right and I know now I'm right. No need to rub it in.You deserved the crap when discussing Frye's senior year or any other year for that matter. Just look how atrocius the The University of Akron's QB situation has become in three short years. On any scale, CF was infinitly better than what we have now.
  8. This isn't anything new. I reported from the basement months ago that sgm was an a-hole! He continues to try to convince us that he's an Akron fan first, yet knows the 3 deep roster of tosu's team from 6 years ago and would be hard pressed to name 6 Zips from 6 years ago. Just go away!
  9. I understand everyone's frustration...I made the road trip to both Buffalo and BG. Last night's performance was awful. Yes, JD need to be held accountable, but no way the University fires him this year. He gets at least one more year, if not two.OF course we need better players and to find a way to keep them eligible. But who will pay for this? The Z fund needs to raise over 6 mil just to cover scholarships.....and we are about 6 million short as of now...Above all else, JD needs to find a quarterback. With even a mediocre qb this year, we are above .500...
  10. As far as the coach is concerned, find somebody with a HEAD coaching resume...whether that is at I-AA or D-II,they ARE out there, especially with a new stadium coming...the AD? try to find somebody old enough to know who the hell Gordon Larson and Jim Dennison are...we have guys who are half MY age, well almost, running multi million dollar prgrams with a multi million dollar stadium coming who haven't found the MEN'S room at the D-I level. Don't tell me that UCONN,Central Florida, South Florida, Buffalo can get solid coaches and win in a reasonable amount of time. Hell OU got the head coach at Nebraska. I'd take my chances with that. Cincinnati got a solid OSU assitant and developed into a winner...I completely disagree. And what the hell does age have to do with it? One of the most irritating things in sports is when teams just recycle retread coaches...I would take a good, young coordinator and give him a shot before I would rehire a guy like Solich. Ditto for the AD position. I want someone in with energy and new ideas.....not an old apathetic goob buying his time unil retirement......which means Dennison is not a candidate.....
  11. Well you don't have to be a math major to know that....Lee Owens 21 wins and 25 losses his last 4 years at Akron.vs.JD Brookharts 21 wins and 23 losses right now (and he has 3 games to go that very well might be losses!!!) That is no improvement......from what you were left to what is going on right now!!!.if he wins out that is minimal improvement if he losses out that is worse!!, what don't you understand?!!! Did he improve on what was left him? I don't give a shit about facilities, or better athletes. It all boils down to wins and losses and right now we have made little to know progress.Everyone points out a BCS win and a bowl game. OK who's to say L.O. couldn't have accomplished the same things maybe maybe not. I am not defending L.O. I am simply stating that from What Lee Owens left JD Brookhart till right now I see minimal improvement! Great he delivered on a BCS win and what does that amount to exactly?? how has that one win benefited this program, are people scared to play us now? Did we land any big recruits because of that win? Lastly I think JD has potential he shows glimpse of promise in my opinion but right now I feel he is more mr. wrong than mr. right.Sorry I made my reply before refreshing my screen!! But at least a few people see my point.Agree with GP1 on this one..LO had the 1AA wins to pad his horrible record and that was in years 6, 7, 8 and 9....Try comparing years 1-4. There is no comparison. While it's hard to argue and pinpoint the teams' success playing in Ohio, there clearly is plenty. The O-line looked above average on Saturday, BW24 was really good except for the 2 drops....and one of those was a bad pass. The much aligned defense was not that bad. Giving up 20 to Temple and 26 to Buffalo isn't that bad. Again, if the offense could score, we win both games. Furthermore, LO NEVER played a Bullafo team that is this good....Again, hard to see the progress. BTW, LO's teams would give up 35 to even the bad teams.......The only knock on JD this year is the QB. He was awful. Looks like he's trying.....but his throws are late and high over the middle. And his decisions on when to run are bad....When my 10 year old can notice that he didn't look like he was going full speed on a run and that he should have dove for the first down, I do wonder what the coaches are looking at....What the heck did CJ7 do that was so bad??????We will win many more? If the QB play improves we will!!! Otherwise, the "long" season will continue....
  12. As Frenchy would say, "you gotta be kidding me"! A processing fee of $5 has you pissed? You, like many others , fall into the Akron Excuses group.....always find an innocuous reason not to give and attend games. Good grief!
  13. ....Glacially slow was better!!!
  14. I agree. I don't see JD leaving UA after the season either to become an assistant coach at the BCS or NFL level. I hear he enjoys being the CEO of a small company where he gets to call the shots. He wouldn't be able to do that as an assistant. It seems by all accounts that he gets along well with the AD, which also works in favor of a coach staying.....unless really big dollars are offered. For you guys who think he should get fired, get real. Even at .500, he's way ahead of the .0025 winning percentage LO had.As for progress, yes the team did show small steps of improvement each week but after Saturday the offense seems to be back at the Army game starting block. And while there definitely is some young talent that is being developed, will we ever really get to see it materialize unless JD solidifies the quarterback position? Being afraid to throw and counting on 2nd and 10 draw plays seems to indicate a lack of confidence in the position. Seven games into the season I grade the position an INCOMPLETE. Here's hoping it gets fixed, now!
  15. Be thankful you missed it. After getting to witness one of the best comebacks a week ago, I cannot believe I had to actually sit through that….finding a way to come from 17 points ahead and lose to Temple is just unacceptable. Sure, this game does get filed in the LO file, but I thought the program was beyond having to go there. It looks like we’ll get to see the 14K that attended the game next September, if we are fortunate enough to have a September game. Just when there was a hint of progress a week ago from the play of the quarterback position, we take two steps back. JD better figure out real soon who his signal caller is or his fate will end up right next to Lee. Speaking of progress, does anyone see any? CJ7 seemed to show a little from the Can't game to the IU game….then he’s on the bench. CJ11 was pretty darn good last week, only to regress this week. If JD continues with the ultra conservation play calling based on his lack of confidence in CJ11 being able to complete a pass do we really have a chance the rest of the way. Make one more play and we win the game…..So please enough with the bowl talk and 7 win seasons (after the WMU victory). Let’s find a way to get the fourth victory before we get to seven…..…..No one said it was easy being a Zips fan….
  16. Nice summary ZR. After having the pleasure to attend this one, I’ll post my thoughts here as well. The atmosphere at WMU was great. There were many tailgate lots throughout the stadium area and campus. Tons of students were out in force in the tailgate lots. (It seemed like there were about 4,000 in attendance at the game.) I could see no other Zips fans in the mix tailgating and it seemed that there were less than 50 in attendance for the game. What a finish? Ranks up there in the top 5, no doubt! The punt return to win the game was surreal to say the least. Still trying to figure out how we pulled it off! Once the ball gets past Owen and rolls to the 11 close to the far sideline, all I could see was the first wave of defenders that he somehow slipped through. Heading up field several yards he is met by a second wave of defenders. At that point, I lost sight of the ball. A second later, Jones comes busting out of the pack heading up field and then to the outside , running past defenders and teammates. From his own 40 to near the goal line, all you could see was green grass in front of him. I looked back to see if any flags were dropped and I didn’t see any. All I could think of was Brandon Payne running back a punt a few years ago and as he was crossing the goal line, the official dropped the flag back at the 10.Back to the return! Heading up the sideline deep into WMU territory with one blocker in front of him, a WMU defender comes racing across the field with a great angle. At the 7, Jones stops on a dime, partially loses his balance, allows the defender to fly by, and then walks into the endzone. Zips Win!. At that point, the entire team rushes the field and all I can do is continue to look for a flag and wait even longer to see if the play is going to be reviewed. Neither happened! After the celebration, I ran down to the tunnel area and reached down and was able to high-five most of the team as they ran off the field. What a feeling? Two days later, I’m still having visions that Jones slips and falls down. Still not sure how he kept his balance. I need to see a replay of this..As for the other 59:45, where to begin?-CJ11 was very good throwing the ball. He was very bad holding onto the ball when running. While he did complete several up-and out patterns to keep drives alive, I must admit, many of the other patterns/routes seemed new to the playbook. He had great protection all night and we actually threw the ball DOWN the field. The none-yard passes were limited on Saturday. Many of the patterns were long and I thought he had great zip on his 30 + yard throws and he didn’t seem to hold onto the ball too long. On the flip side, from my vantage point, it looked like we had guys open all over the field. WMU does not have the best D, either. Crossing routes and post patterns worked all night. -JA12 was a man among boys as posted. He did a great job catching the ball and he has to lead the MAC in YAC. He just wouldn’t go down.-The running game was very good. The O line had holes opened up all over in the first half and in the fourth quarter. -WTF was the play calling down inside the 10, TWICE? It was Ball State all over. AA26 was gaining several yards a clip…we should have run the ball 4 times…..not throw it 4 times. Please tell Morehead to get those fade/throw it up for grabs- passes out of the playbook. I hate those. -RC20 got burnt all night long. On one TD catch, he went up with the MWU receiver, and allowed the ball to be taken out of his hands. -The pass D stunk all night, the run D was great in the first half, awful for the first 22 minutes of the second half. That said, the D made two critical stops for 3 and out late in the fourth to set up the game winner. -Kudos to the Kalamazoo Gazette for very good post game coverage on Sunday. What a treat for WMU fans. At least they get to open a paper after the game and see their team displayed in the top corner of the front page, their team headlining the sports page with game coverage and a player feature. Somehow they figured that there was ample space on pages 4 and 5 for coverage of the other Michigan schools. Nice job. Finally, thanks to the moderators for the new board. Great job!
  17. Thanks Big Zip.Can't still sucks and BZ is still an a-hole. Please go away.
  18. Sounds like you are softening your stance on your man Charlie. LOL. If Frye does indeed make a mil per year, he better catch on quick or he will be gone at the end of the year.
  19. Again, spoken like a shill for the Buckeye program. These people NEVER go to the Akron games, NEVER buy a ticket and NEVER buy/wear any Zips gear. They are worthless.Nice to see you traveled to Austin, TX. It's people like you who need to go away-Luckeye losers on our board. If you were a real Zips fan, you would have been AT the NC State game like I was. Go Away.
  20. Finally, the voice of reason speaks. I just want to know why all those Steeler fans in NE Ohio don't also follow the Buccos.
  21. The Seahawks confirmed via e-mail that he is indeed #5.ESPN was incorrect.....
  22. The Seattle roster I looked at had him listed as #9.
  23. Folks, no one wants Charlie to succeed more than me....But he was awful on Sunday and I didn' even get to see it. Hearing it on the radio was bad enough.......
  24. Who are the Seahawks trading to The Erotic Network?
  25. I'll second that. Very funny! Make the move now. Shottenpooper is available! Agreed. Now I can go back to rooting against all other in-state (Ohio) college and pro teams, except our Zips.
