  1. Are we sure about this? Some of our best scorers are not necessarily our best defenders, so if KD continues to play the guys who play the best D, the offense and scoring may suffer.Sometimes you just have to outscore your opponent..
  2. On the 4th down play that Andrew Johnson got hurt on, he clearly fumbled the ball before he went down. Yet as the Zips (CJ11) were going to pick it up, the refs blew the whistle. In this instance, if the play was not blown dead, are the Zips able to advance a fumble for the TD?
  3. Kudos to the AK-Rowdies. You guys and gals were awesome last night. Keep it up...
  4. With the injury to Alex Allen, be prepared for more of the same. We will struggle inside the red zone with the lack of a real threat.
  5. Try walmart, Kohls, steve & barry's, the University Book Stores. It's not as hard to find now-a-days. So sorry they have no excuse.Call me crazy, but shouldn't a University employee walk across the street the OBC and say "How many shirts do you need, and what size?" Then, about 25 minutes later, walk in and say "Here are "X" shirts, free of charge. All we ask is that you wear them on game day. Thanks for your support."Then walk out the door, into the sunset. In theory it should work, but this is Akron. When I ordered my first beer, I said to her "Nice, we have a UA party and you're wearing that garbage (OSU shirt). Her reply, "I was told by my boss that I had to wear this".
  6. Please, a local homeboy who wears Yankee hats to Indians games, hangs out on the Cowboys sidelines with T.O. in dallas colors during the Browns Game and then sits on the sidelines with USC at the Ohio State/USC game, not so much a homeboy to me!What does this have to do with UA? But since you brought it up, I continue to ask why is there an issue with LBJ rooting for popular, winning teams(Cowboys, Yankees) as an adult -that he followed as a kid. He's no different than the 99% of Ohioans who go around acting like they have a four-year degree from tosu and continue to support a school (winning team) they have no real affiliation with all the while ignoring their alma maters. Way to go LBJ.
  7. UA fan speaks....needs discounted tickets.I believe UA discounts them enough.....Who knows you may be able to find freebies at the gate!!
  8. *phew* I got mine for $4 from stubhub. Whole trip is gonna cost about $300 for two ($120 for hotel, 100 for gass, 10 for tix, 70 for miscellaneous). Not bad for a Zips mini vacation. Besides Lee and johnnyzip, anyone else goin? How much was postage and what section did you buy?
  9. Madison was an absolute blast! I hope Mack attempts to get them back on the schedule in a few years as I would like to go back.We arrived in Madsion early in the afternoon on Friday and by my account, 48 hours later we frequented eleven different bars, several of them multiple times. What a great college town! Zips Win!’s Roommate even commented that with all the shops, bars, long walks all over campus, Madison was a combination of Las Vegas and Put in Bay (without the gambling). The Wisconsin fans, young and old -were very nice and complimentary of UA’s effort. They were even buying us cold one’s for making the trip. If I have to answer one more time What’s a Zip?, I think I’m going to print up cards to hand out with the explanation. As for the game, I saw a lot of the same things as Zipboy. Jacq was pretty good all things considered. He missed Bowser on the bomb that would have been 7 and he did miss a few other tosses, but Jones dropped an easy one and he did make several good throws, including the first TD pass. Last year that ball was thrown at the receivers’ feet. Now if he can build upon this game and gain some consistency, he may be OK.All three wideouts-Bowser, Bruce and Miller- all seem to have great upside. The play calling seemed much better. It looks like the Jacq looking over to the sidelines multiple times before he snaps the ball is gone from a year ago. And we made an effort to throw the ball down the field. Hopefully, the sideline throws are a thing of the past.Very disappointing that all five linemen were called for a false start. We could never overcome the extra five yards and this killed us offensively…..not to mention Kennedy’s fumble. I hope Alex Allen get more touches next week.Defensively, what can you say? Playing a bunch of first-year players along the line was problematic. We were getting pushed around pretty good. Tyler Campbell had a ton of tackles. Unfortunately, they were 10+ yards downfield. Looks like the move of B. Will to the secondary is paying off. I’m not surprised A. Jones is back on D after the drop and how the receivers look. Losing is never fun, however being down only 17-10 at half (being a 26 point dog) was somewhat of a moral victory. Camp Randall was not the loud, hostile environment I anticipated. While there was a large student turnout, many arrived late and left early. It’s too bad we started the second half with a penalty and starting field position of our own 8. (Was this a good call?) It would have been nice to go down the field and tie it up and then see how UW responded. Oh well, maybe next week. Speaking of next week, off to the Carrier Dome in 5 days...
  10. I like the 40 second clock rule change. Now officials have to get the ball placed and ready to go.I disagree with the elimination of the 5-yard incidental face mask penalty. To many drives are influenced by penalties as it is. 15 yards for this infraction is too generous...
  11. BFH--Get the hell off this board...Screw Beanie....Go spend your time on tosu's board.
  12. Like I said before. Redshirt McClanahan, Parrish and Sullivan. You would still havePG-Steward, HitchensSG-McNees, RobertsSF-Linhart, B.McKnight, ConyersPF-C.McKnight, CvetinovicC-Swiech, BardoThat's still a very deep rotation. Plus you have the walkons there for garbage time if you need it and some guys can play multiple positions (McNees at PG, Conyers at SG, Linhart at PF, etc.). Then down the road you can stagger out recruiting a bit more. In '08-'09 we have one scholarship to give (Linhart). In '09-'10 we have two (Conyers (assuming he gets an extra year) and C.McKnight). In '10-'11 we have four (McNees, Bardo, B.McKnight and Roberts (assuming he gets an extra year back)). In '11-'12 you would have four (Steward, Hitchens, Swiech and Cvetinovic). In '12-'13 you have three (McClanahan, Parrish and Sullivan). 1, 2, 4, 4, 3 is a lot better staggered IMO than 1, 2, 4, 5, 2.I'll be disappointed if by mid-season the starting rotation isn't:Hitchens, McNees, McKnight, NcKnight and Linhart.....Will need both Roberts and Steward to come off the bench at the guard spots.....Have no clue who will step up on the front line...Counting on Bardo and Conyers to help would be huge....still think Bardo is a year away....Conyers had no clue who to even pass the ball to last year, so I'm not sure what has changed that will make him a contributer....BTW, if we can find that 20 point a game scorer, bring him on...there are many a "team" players out there that can score....would love to have one....Brett....
  13. I'll believe this when I see it..
  14. I disagree. Please explain what he's given UA or it's athletic programs. Has he donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the hoops program that I am unaware of? If he did, then I tip my cap and will say thanks. But I am not aware of this.Do I like that his camps are on UA's campus? Of course I do. But has this enticed even one recruit to sign with us? Not that I am aware of....Let's hope that changes..Is the Nike deal a blockbuster? We will see. Once the deal is signed, if I see LBJ on tv with a Zips hat on, then maybe I will concur. But until then, we can all wishfully think that he's a Zips supporter. That is, until mid-November when I see his ugly mug on the tv intoducing the idiots in c-bus. War Carson Palmer and go Zips.
  15. Screw this idea. You can also screw OSU and all their fans...Unless they are paying me $4 mil to play the game and in my house, I would never play them.Play one 1-AA school like GP1 suggests and the remainder are D-1 schools..Let's also mix in 6 home games per season beginning in 2009.
  16. Are we sure it's UA's new home page?I didn't see any students wearing red or gray tee shirts in the picture.
  17. My hunch is the kids club will not be a part of Zips football come 2009. As mentioned, with the very affordable family plan, I do not see a need to include football in the kids club. I also agree that it will be interesting to see how UA prices football tickets without angering the fans who have gotten in for free for years. Thus far, I like how the tickets are priced –combining 2008 and 2009. In the end, I don’t think it will matter. We have some of the worst alumni/association in the country. We are lucky if one out of 50 alumni support UA in any way- this goes for academics or athletics. Most are too busy supporting someone else’…So, if we cannot even get our own alumni to buy tickets, how are we going to get Akron residents to do so? I’ve been to hundreds of Zips games. Gotten in to many of them for free, bought tickets at the gate for many and now buy season tickets……I agree with GP1 that there has to be a real increase in the value of the product to increase prices. The new stadium should do that in ’09. After that, the team needs to win to increase prices after that. Basketball, on the other hand, is a different story. Very competitive team, good guys, fun to watch, and they win a lot of games. Under no circumstances would I hand out free or even reduced priced tickets. While I used to be in the corner that getting people in the door is better than having an empty arena, now I am not. The entertainment value alone of a hoops game is well worth the price, so if you choose not to pay, then stay home. If we wait around until there is no room to charge a “full” price, we may be waiting a long, long time.
  18. That's the cost of doing business and watching football. We all wanted a new stadium.....now it's time to pay for it. So, please let's hold the complaining about paying for a state of the art facility to a minimum. We've all got off dirt cheap the last 25 plus years....
  19. This is really bad news....O'Shea was horrible and OU was a perfect fit......Find Boals now and don't let him out of Summit County until a replacement is found....
  20. Screw Jimmy McSweatervest! Whomever made the decision to have him come back is an idiot!! I ripped up my invite the minute I saw his picture. But I'm sure all you luckeye idiots will pony up the $60 to hear/see him. Finally, calling him one of 'us' is debatable. If you mean he's one of the tens of thousands of alumni who doesn't give a damn about his alma mater and who never give back, then I agree, he can be considered one of 'us'.If you think he really gives a damn about UA, you are a fool. ........Now, if the vest was available to hang around and give me the intimate details on how his lucks got run off the field the last two bowl games, I might reconsider if I got a free ticket. Like most UA alums, they really like free tickets.
  21. Please get over the "considering that we were picked 4th bs" and the "team easily overchieved" nonsense.....Sure, we were picked 4th, but the top 4 teams were more like 1, 1A, 1B and 1C. We ended right where we should have during the regular season and so I have no idea how we overachieved. Everyone just wants to make excues....we really do need to change our nickname to the Akron Excuses... As for overachieving? This roster had three 1000 point career scorers on it.... and they all had tons of experience. Yes, we had some injuries to overcome, but so did several other teams. Huggins' team in 85-86 overachieved....picked last in the OVC and a roster full of unknowns....This was not the case in 2007-08....
  22. I don't see why you have to be an ass about it. These guys aren't "easily replaceable" and you'll see that next year when we struggle to get 20 wins. JWood, Ced and Dials are one of the best senior classes in a long time for the Zips. These three are a major part of 50 wins in the last two years. Maybe you should stick to commenting on football.Actually, GP1 is right on the money. J. Wood is irreplaceable. The othes "shit down their leg" in every big time situation, including losing a 12 point lead today.
  23. This may be the dumbest move JD has made to date!!!!
  24. We find a way to ch_ _ _ a week earlier!
  25. FSU's top 4 scores-- all with double digits-- are guards bewteen 6-1 and 6-3 tall. Their 5th leading scorer at 9.7 per game is 6-9.
