Nice article on the Zips from the ABJ!!

But tosu will not schedule teams like Oregon when they are good bec. they may lose. They will cherry pick easy wins. A below avg. Va. tech team will be as hard as it gets....

I find it amazing that this thread is on page 28. Anyone who thought the hoops arena proposal would pass in the first place must be hanging out with Abreu. The fact that it was removed from the ballot at least saves the embarrassment of reading in the paper that it was defeated by a 90-10 margin. Find a dozen donors with deep pockets to get this thing approved and built.

Do you really think the big 5 will come to an agreement and only schedule themselves? I find this hard to believe within the next five years. And if they do, I predict it will last for about 5 years.... At some point 25 of the 65 teams will get tired of having a losing record every year and then will be begging to join a conference similar to the MAC. The money will be nice for a while, but then when Purdue consistently draws 22,000 fans a game going 2-10 every year, things will change.

Hopefully it was moved to the open Saturday in September......

Baloney. Why waste your time with a D2 player?

Anyone know what the mesh black zipper bag that we received in our gift bag is used for? Golf shoes?

Where LeBron would have played college ball

Thanks for this earth shattering news. -
Sure voters care about tax increases, but when they hear the Zips are a lock for the ACC with a new arena, this passing is as guaranteed as a Zeke Marshall blocked shot at the rim.

I'll take him.....

I give him two. Senderoff gets one more year. Then Can't can send him off.

Best Zips Team in Program History? (DI Only)
Zips Win! replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I'll take 85-86. Marcel Boyce loses to none of the other listed teams. Take it to the bank!!!! -
Thanks JZ84 for stating it perfectly.

I find this topic both fascinating and ridiculous. Of course we all want the Zips to make progress. But by whose definition? Administration may want to "make progress" by moving to a better conference, but if they were held personally accountable financially for all the loses we would incur, they would think otherwise. The minute they take credit for moving up, they are gone to another school and we are stuck dealing with the losses. (on the field) Fans want progress as well. But that progress can be made in the MAC. Copy what NI did in football with a BCS game and what OU did with a sweet 16 run, and there is your progress. Heck, a sweet 16 run for UA would be more impressive than a NC at tosu with our budget. Accept that and enjoy it. A more suitable venue? Well, when you find one, let me know. None of the power 5 would take us, we would never get a bowl bid or make the NCAA hoops tournament in the AAC conference. We would be hard pressed to get a bowl bid or make the tournament in Conference USA. If you think the Big Dialer is empty now, wait until North Texas visits. I appreciate the jump to 1A status, but anyone who wailed when we made the move in 1986 was correct. Going Independent was a huge mistake. Thankfully the MAC allowed us in.... My vision is simple- Let's copy NIU and a BCS bowl bid and OU's sweet 16 run on a consistent basis- in the MAC, thereby putting my move to vegas on hold, permanently.

Why stop there, I hear the SEC will be calling!!

Or, we can keep both football and basketball in the MAC where we belong.

Somewhere, Akron great Joe Jakubick is disappointed today.

CiT First Round: Akron @ IPFW Mastadons

Listening to post game since 1350 went out more often than not during the game.. I cannot wait for pud Dunn to remind everyone how much depth we have!!! Yikes!!! -
I heard them. It was because no other MAC school came to mind so they all picked the Zips.
-
I prefer the Tilted Kilt.

This schedule is like the MAC commish. They both blow! I would rather play 12 Saturday afternoon/early evening games not televised than any amount televised by ESPN played on a weeknight. All they do is talk about the upcoming BCS games during the telecast so who really cares there is a game going on in the background. Good luck to the guys in the ticket office!!! I cannot wait for those evening games in November on a Tuesday. Heck, we can probably move the game to the field house...

If you look closely at the minutes played yesterday….Just kidding! I love going to BG for hoops. Haven’t seen a loss on their campus in a decade! The only place that the ZipsWin! jinx does not apply.... Their gymnasium still blows. It has to be the worst designed “new” arena ever built. Glad to see 300 BG students showed up and 250 left at halftime. Spacing- I couldn’t agree more. When my daughter was learning to drive, I reminded her daily that spacing on the road is the only place where it is more important than on a basketball court, so pay attention. Yesterday, I thought the first half was a pretty good display of spacing. Reggie hitting threes, Q driving and making short jumpers, everyone else hustling. As mentioned here, the second half was too much half court into Tree facing a triple team, hence the five turnovers... If we can get the right mix of Q on the perimeter driving and Tree down low, I like our chances, three-point bank shots and all....
