  1. Zips to face a Tunnel of Pride. OSU is going to have 1,500 to 2,000 former football and basketball players and other sports out there as a show of support to the current players and coaches.
  2. LBJ, Dru Joyce, and Romeo Travis made an appearance at the Chris Chambers City League Classic in Warrensville Heights...some highlights of LeBron’s performance and interviews with Joyce and Rome.
  3. Ryan Andrick Update:RYAN ANDRICK, Varsity AssistantCoach Andrick enters his first season as a member of the Perry coaching staff. He served as Head Coach at Springfield High School for four years 2003-07. It had been 26 seasons since their last winning record or conference title. During his final two seasons, Coach Andrick compiled a 31-10 record, 14-0 record in league road games and back-to-back conference championships. He was recognized as Coach of the Year by his conference and the Greater Akron Basketball Coaches Association. His coaching career began as an assistant at St. Vincent-St. Mary in 2001, a season that culminated in a State Championship. As a senior at Manchester High, he led all Summit County players in scoring and rebounding, while pacing Manchester to its first league title in 21 seasons. He became only the second player in school history to accept a D-1 basketball scholarship. As a four year starter at the University of Akron, Ryan helped the Zips win their first league title in over a decade. He graduated as one of only 13 players in university history to be a member of both the 1,000 point and 500 rebound clubs. He and his wife April reside in Hartville.
  4. The New York Jets likely will not look to re-sign free-agent Jason Taylor once free agency begins. The Jets released Taylor after the season because he was due a $10 million roster bonus. Domenik Hixon could become the team's top punt returner and kick returner this season if he is able to stay healthy during training camp. Hixon said the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last offseason has completely healed and he expects to be cleared to practice once training camp begins. The Oakland Raiders may be interested in re-signing impending free-agent Charlie Frye to be their No. 3 quarterback.
  5. Lowder will not seek reappointment to the board.
  6. The Cincinnati Bengals may look at Charlie Frye as a realistic possibility if they decide to sign a veteran quarterback during free agency.
  7. Gloria riding south instead of west. Officers arrested Gloria James on a misdemeanor assault charge
  8. Ryan Brinson is playing DB for the Canton Legends. Ha! That's hilarious! Well, actually, how sad for him. Brinson with the Canton Cougars.
  9. Hopefully the amount of units now available will start to make the prices level off for off-campus housing. Some places have started to raise rent to levels that are a little ridiculous for how nice they are/what neighborhood's they are in. The new units will be more expensive. The new apartments would rent for about $700 a month per bed, compared to $600 a month at 22 Exchange. Maybe it will help lower prices at other locations, just not in the new housing.
  10. All hail Gino Ford -- the new King of Peoria. "Oh no!?!" Jim "My wife is my rock" Thome is real genious. Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot, gun safety. That would include yourself, Thome. You might not want the barrel of your gun pointing directly at your face.
  11. Although most universities are public institutions or colleges are supposedly not for profits. The athletic departments are supposed to be run as part of academia. It is also unusual how payments for luxury seating and naming rights are charitable gifts. Maybe universities should operate athletic departments (or atleast football and basketball) as unrelated businesses. Look at Texas getting $300 million for a television network. I find it ironic how much the coaches can get paid, some as much or better than NFL coaches, and student-athletes can only earn their education which has a ceiling (which I guess parallels a salary cap).
  12. See link to Nader's Core Principles of League of Fans. League of Fans is a sports reform project founded by Ralph Nader to encourage social & civic responsibility in sports industry & culture. It has been around at least 10 years. He also ripped the city of Cleveland in 1996 for the stadium deal.
  13. Now you don't have to just watch him. Come and see Huckabee, potential GOP presidential candidate in 2012, as the featured speaker during the Summit County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day Dinner.
  14. Frye is scheduled for unrestricted free agency.
  15. No news or did I miss an update somewhere else?
  16. Sure looks like Nik to me. Yep
  17. Iona in in the MAAC and the announcers didn't know which MAC/MAAC the Zips were from.
  18. Based on the picture in that article, CJ Oldham might not be enjoying the season as much as Josh.
  19. Great game. Dec 1996 17 point underdogs. If I remember right Ali had a great look to win the game in regulation. J Ball 44 points!?!? TODAY is the day Zips!!! “James Posey scored five of his 17 points in the third overtime yesterday and No. 17 Xavier escaped with a 113-111 victory over Akron. The Musketeers (8-0) survived 44 points by Akron freshman point guard Jimmal Ball, whose baskets forced each of the overtimes for the Zips (1-6).” NY Daily News
  20. I was asked to discontinue writing the blog at the end of May 2010. Bring it back, it was good.
  21. Congrats to Shaka!
  22. One thing the writer of this piece failed to mention: with Zeke Akron has reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. Now that's an impact player. Miss Cleo's pen name is John Santa. John just glossed over the fact that UofA wins tomorrow. Zeke was just being a gentleman and didn't question John's prognosticating.
