  1. Same place as where I tailgate for football....computer center. They have a match the day of the Can't game, hope to see you there!Well I hope TBA turns into an announced time so I can plan my day. I heard that a few of the UOTSIP/RHIT shooters were being investigated for steroid use. Any updates on this?Well, who can blame the RHIT folks for needing to bulk up. I mean, they are RIDICULOUSLY smart Engineering students which means they might have a hard time even picking up a rifle. Outside of picking up the rifle, there really is no need to "Bulk up" as if you have proper form you utilize your frame to carry the load of your rifle. Actually, back in my day, the RHIT coach was always just missing the cut for the Olympic team. I think he got the program started and was a very modivated individual. I have always thought that competitive shooting would be a great sport for some of these smaller technical schools as the sport is 98% mental. I considered bringing this up to the folks at Kettering when I lived near Flint and was taking Graduate courses there. As for USP, I have no experience with their program but again, it sounds like a technical school.
  2. I always support the team. I'm right there with you.

  4. Rogers was better, IMO than he was in the past games. He was not better in ALL areas, but he was better. Still, he had quite a few things to work on. For one, Rogers seemed to be up to speed with his receivers. He was underthowing them in the previous games, but he was better last night. Also, he did stay in the pocket a little longer. It was apparent that the offense was geared towards his running ability and, unfortunately, late in the 1st half they seemed to rely solely on this and of course he got hurt. He also was not afraid to take a hit...it was almost as if he was looking for it. When he ran, there was none of this feet first sliding that CJ used to do 1 yard before a first down....Rogers was diving head first for every yard! On the downside, he still would lock onto his receiver and not go through his progressions. I attribute at least one of his INT's to this. Also he would bail out from the pass to quickly. As soon as he had success running, it just made it worse. He could REALLY have been dangerous if he learned how to stay in the pocket a little longer and pick out a receiver before pulling it down. The OU D would have probably adjusted after the half to his running abilities and he would be back to relying on the pass. Rogers was also a little bit to brazen with his running and he had what, 4 turnovers? Can't be doing that! Again, I think the kid was working very, very hard and I felt really, really bad for him and his injury. I hope that he gets well soon and we can utilize him next season as he is a great athlete! Now onto Nicely. Right from the start, this kid impressed me... He was the General out there from the get go! The first play he was in, we were backed up against our goal, and he noticed we only had 10 players on the field. Had he not picked that up, he probably would have been clobbered for a safety. Very heads up play for your first time on the field! Also, I am amazed at the pocket presence of this kid. He stays in there, steps up at just the right time as he is going through his progressions and makes a solid pass. The kid has an arm and puts some pep on that ball.....I LOVE IT! That is probably why Bowser was dropping them....it was hurting his hands He stays in the pocket so long, that I almost wish he would have pulled it down and run a few times. The kid has speed! I remember the first time someone flushed him out of the pocket.....I was thinking "Bad move...you aren't going to run him down!". I'm pretty sure Nicely ran for a first down on that play. The kid is the future of the program, no doubt about it. I think he will need a week or two working with the starting unit as he was consistently throwing behind the receivers but I attribute that to the High School to college adjustment! I need some time to contemplate why JD was holding out on him after CJ went out....I haven't generated an opinion on that yet. With all this said, I think this season is pretty much done in terms of a Bowl game. We will need a few weeks for Nicely to hit his stride and I highly, Highly doubt we will win out. We could be a solid team at the end of the season and we may end up playing spoiler. I'm hoping to see some good games, expect a few wins yet this season and just live for the good plays.....that is my coping mechanism I've developed as a Zips fan. Live for the good, forget the bad. Oh well, shiny new stadium, same old outcome. I will continue to wait for the day when we can't pack another person into the stadium and they are standing outside the fence. Go Zips!
  5. So what are the chances we could get one of the soccer players to kick the ball? We would probably be nailing 65 yd field goals all the time.
  6. You know who was really impressive tonight, Wagner! I think that kid had 50 tackles tonight! He'll be playing on Sundays.
  7. So the wife and I were a bit stretched for time today, so we decided to partake in some of the fine food and drink in downtown. We swing by the Barley house and it was JAMMED with both OU and Akron fans. Kudos to those guys for backing the Zips and cashing in! It was so packed, that we were worried we would miss kickoff, which was 2 hours away. We mosied down to Brubakers and it was full, but we found a seat. All the wait staff (which never came to our table until there was a paid bill with tip) were wearing OSU stuff. As we left, the place was clearing out fast! That waitress we talked to once, yea she asked what was going on and why it was so busy? First, my wife told her to give the tip to the bar tender who took our orders, and then she told her that the Zips had a game starting in 1/2 hour. Walking out the place was about 1/3 full. Bottom line, Brubakers prepared for their typical OSU crowd and was burried with Zips fans. Many, many customers were pissed with the service and I will never go back! Know your customer!
  8. I have to agree with most of the sentment here on Nicely, I think he is the future of the zips. With that said, I don't think I have ever felt worse for a player than I did for rogers tonight. I get the feeling the kid has been working his tail off and it was just starting to pay off and he goes down. I feel that this is Nicely's team now, but man was Rogers killing those guys with his feet. I hope Matt gets well soon and can come back and make a big impact for us in other ways.
  9. When can I get a new rifle range?
  10. I think 5000 seats would be adequate for the new soccer facility. I think we could eventually get to 5000 fans at one or two games a year!
  11. Thanks for the heads up...I'll be careful tomorrow when I visit the range!
  12. The Zips have not won a Team National Championship, but Jenna Compton did win the individual Air Rifle National Championship last year. The team has been very close to getting into the National Championship match over the past 10 years, but has never been able to make the jump.
  13. First rifle match is in the books and the team was paced by underclassmen. Zips took 2nd, while Navy took first. 570 by Szabo in smallbore is a pretty solid score, especially for a Soph. I like to see a tightly bunched group of scores, and it would be nice if 570 was the lowest score. That should be expected for a shot at the National Championship match. Tight scores indicate a lot of competition within the team which only helps to drive up scores. The Air Rifle scores are more along the lines of what I would like to see. 584 is good score for air and I would probably set an acceptable lower limit at about 576. Again, a nice tight group there at the 576-575 level. Interesting note, compare the score of our other shooters to our defending National Champion. Early in the season, decent scores. Stay focused. One Shot Match.BELIEVE and truely EXPECT to shoot higher scores than you currently shoot. We're close folks to having another team consistently competing for a National Championship every year. Lets bring home another National Championship this year!!!! http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...CLID=204807466#
  14. I'll make my prediction with about 5 sec. left in the 4th quarter.
  15. Thanks for all the details. Not only did I get an answer to my question, I learned a lot too!
  16. UIC would appear to be a very tough opponent, tougher than OSU. I was worried there when you reported there was a tie at half. Glad our guys pulled it out!
  17. I think this year has shown that we can have MORE than 2450 fans attending. I think we could have hit 3000+ for the OSU game if our facility could accomodate it and that is for THIS SEASON! If they continue winning, they could consistently draw more. People in NE Ohio are so starved for a winner that they will back the team. The facilities are IMO, the biggest problem we have right now for this team. I think that the scheduling has been excellent and will not hurt us. We should continue to schedule a very hard OOC schedule. Hell, we seem to play in 2 conferences, the Big 10 and the MAC. I will be one of the first people to stand up against issuing more bonds or increasing student payments for new facilities but, with that said, something needs to be done for this team. If they win a National Championship, then Dr. P and TW need to get creative in getting the ball rolling on some new facilites. Maybe we build it in steps, but we need to have a facility that will keep top talent in Akron. We are a "Mid Major" and DI National Championships are few and far between for this class of school. We can't neglect a winner!
  18. Yep, I can see where they aren't well to do....your data says it all. A median income almost 50% higher than the rest of the state. Pretty "Average" if you ask me....
  19. I hope TW occasionally looks at this site and sees what you are coming up with, it is really good stuff compared to what the Athletic Dept. is coming up with. Nice job, keep up the good work!!
  20. So here is a question for you Soccer people. Why don't they substitute more in Soccer? Those guys run all over the place, they have to get tired.
  21. NIU pummeled WMU! What a suprise they are! I think they are one of maybe 2 teams that may be able to knock off CMU. Who is the other? Well Buffalo was hanging pretty well with CMU, and I think Temple might be that other team. Miami continues to struggle and OU was up last I checked. It's going to be a rough year.
  22. I was reading some posts on big soccer.com and one OSU poster suggested that porter would leave UA for OSU if The buckeyes just ponied up enough cash to lure him away. He mentioned that they have better facilities (probably true) and the OSU name and Nike sponsorship would sweeten the deal. It frustrated me that the mentality of their fans, when they lose to a "mid-major" school, is to simply buy their way to success. I hope Caleb and UA can build something special here.
  23. I don't have cable, but I was lucky enough to find the BSU vs. Toledo game on Channel 5. I have to tell you, we've got to get our act together because these two teams don't look too bad. Both teams are relying on their passing game, but have some good receivers and can air it out. BSU's RF QB Paige looks to be pretty darn good! He's got a good pass and he can run the ball. Toledo seems to have some pretty good guys on D that are bringing it. Toledo has made quite a few crutial mistakes, however. Temple is pounding EMU right now. They seem to have turned it around, beating Buffalo last week and taking it to EMU right now. I hope JD brings the change he promised, I think we'll need it.
  24. Dominating win! You know, watching that makes me want to do something I don't think I've ever wanted to do.......try playing soccer!
