Z.I.P. Inspired, Favorite Big-11 Team Poll (Minus NU)
Zipsrifle replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
Michigan. They were my team before I went to Akron. Go Blue! -
After what I read today about Toledo giving people tickets for parking in their driveways, you can have it. I'll stick with Mt. Pleasant.http://blogs.thecarconnection.com/marty-bl...driveway-pay-up

I heard it will be a lounge for the Rifle team....

It was around 10:00 tonight and they were moving around with a light working on the stadium. With that said, put me in the camp that says the stadium will be ready to go for Sept. 12th. That's 3 months away, a lot of time to get things done.

So, to pass the time, I was wondering if you had to pick a second favorite MAC school, which one would it be? For me I would have to say CMU. They were kind of my "Hometown" MAC school when I lived in Michigan. In the East, I would say Buffalo as I think we are similar schools. We aren't some school way out in the country where we can provide a controlled environment to protect our students from the real world.

Working three shifts per day is a sure sign they are behind schedule. Second and third shifts are especially costly. That logic is fairly sound, but you gotta remember that a lot of subcontractors are on the hook for a deadline. So, it's up to them to decide how much they are going to work, and whether it's within their budget to work people over. They put in bid for their work and if they go over it's their own problem. Some subcontractors could be behind, and others may not. What is worse, the general can be breathing down some of their necks because, of course, other subs can't even get in to do their work until others have finished certain things.Working three shifts is very common in this type of project when you have a short timeline in this case from Feb 2008 through August 2009. The costs is built into the bid and Welty will have to pay UofA penalities if the stadium part is not done by 08/22 the promised delivery date. Welty also gets a bonus for delivering on 08/22 and that's another reasons he increased the manpower. The entire project is on schedule and the only delay is the installation of the glass which the project manager has said has taken longer then expected. He fully expects everthing to be ready 08/22 less floors two through four of the press tower which are classrooms and that timetable was always longer then the rest of the stadium project. The project is currently under budget due to the economy and that's why they're adding some things like the scrolling scoreboard on the upper deck. Welty workers are non-Union so their OT costs is not near as bad a Union construction company. We've got a field, and we've got goalposts. Just let me know what size socket I need to bring and point me to the bolts and the bleachers and I'll install my seats for free. As far as I'm concerned, we're ready to play football!

Missing a boatload of Rifle Championships. We'll see if we can get you squared away on this...

Seating Chart - What is already taken?
Zipsrifle replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yep, I was right! I added one ticket to my package at the spring game and guess what, THAT was the ticket they based my seating selection off of so instead of 8 years as a ticket holder I was picking with the first year people. I was supposed to go early on the first day but had to wait until Friday evening! In the end, it was just confusion, which is understandable. I've had 3 different addresses in the past 2 years and things didn't get linked up correctly. We've got it all squared away and no hard feelings, we got good seats anyway. -
What do you want to see in the next AD candidates?
Zipsrifle replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
1) Someone who, when standing infront of 10,000 people, remembers the name of the school signing their paycheck!2) Someone who, when standing infront of 10,000 people at the closing of your old stadium, doesn't sound drunk!3) Someone who, when they prove they can do a great job, stays in Akron! -
Similar experience here, SeeTee. I can't tell you how often people ask me why I would ever leave SoCal to return to Akron. When I tell them that the quality of life here is actually far better at about 1/2 the cost, they look at me like I'm crazy. (The only times I wonder... for a second or two... about it are in mid-winter when it's 2 degrees!)I don't know. I guess I just have an idea that Akron... for all of its warts... has incredible potential. And a significant part of that potential is the continuing development of the university in all of its aspects, but particularly in football's and basketball's ability to involve the community in a common source of excitement and pride. Crazy me.I'm with you. People wonder why I left Detroit! I mean look at it, our unemployment rate is lower, we have fewer homes in foreclosure and hell, we don't have any huge corporations to go bankrupt! Seriously though, we were always planning on moving back to Ohio, I'm just glad I got out of Michigan when I did! I'm hoping to make a difference here and not stand on the sidelines and complain like everyone else.

Put me in the "Not really sure what he accomplished" camp. Hard to tell when the relationship was so short. Thank Mack, good luck....Next---> -

Given my extensive experience with analyzing DI Athletic directors, I will be reviewing potenital Candidates resumes over the next few weeks and I will let everyone know who my choice is when I have had time to compare the candidates. -

Well, looks like I'm going to get totally screwed. Season ticket holder for 8 years and I'm going to be in the nose bleed section. WTF! -
FB is only one of the three teams that use the Schrank practice field daily. Where do you propose that the women's and men's soccer teams practice?Ah, yes, the soccer teams. I guess they can't practice on their field if we can't even keep it in good enough shape for games. Well, looks like it stays until the new soccer stadium is built with turf.

I've always felt that Toledo/Detroit are the epicenter of the MAC. Directional Michigan, Toledo, BG, Ball State, Akron, Can't are all an easy drive to Toledo. I think the MAC tourney works well in Cleveland as it is a reasonable distance from Akron, Buffalo, Toledo, BG and EMU. Hell, there were a TON of Buffalo fans at the Q for the championship. The only other major venue, the Palace in Auburn Hills just seems to far of a drive and you lose the excitement of the City.

Beer is good....... Beer before a college football game is good....... Beer in a college football stadium with potential underage drinking being reported is bad..... Beer could cause an ugly scene..... No beer in the stadium. Let the girls sneak it in their bras like they do at every other school. One mini-bottle at a time. Beer after a college football game is good..........How many on-campus stadiums around the country sell beer? There's only a handful that I know of and one them Wake Forest is actually a mile off campus. Whole conferences like the SEC alcohol is banned at all SEC sporting events. That's means even at off campus venues and bowl games involving SEC teams. Alcohol is not sold. UofA is dry campus and they'll have to admend that just so the skyboxes can serve it.I could be wrong. But, I seriously doubt there will be beer sales in the Info.Well, maybe we need an off campus stadium then!

Seriously though, here are a few ideas:"The house that Heisman Built"or as we are in summit county"The Akropolis"

So today I was wondering. We essentially have 4 football fields with astroturf...sorry....TURF....for the football team at a very landlocked university. Where will the team practice? I'm assuming the RB is out, so we're down to three, the fieldhouse, the Lee Jackson pracitice field, and the stadium. In my mind we should look at eliminating that Lee Jackson practice field and give the students some more green space. Have the FB team practice at ICS and maybe have a few of the intramural games there too. Am I missing something here??

Took my tour of the stadium today and oddly enough, not much had changed from when I was there at the spring game. Obviously I didn't go in the press tower which is where I'm assuming the vast majority of work has been focused. Anyway, it was coming along nicely. I like the alternating green grass, but I don't like the color green they chose. It wil still look amazing when it's done! I was very much against anything but brick for holding up the scoreboard as the scoreboard on the model looked terrible but, I have to say I like what they've done. The four posts are very substantial and it looks nothing like a Highschool scoreboard as I feared. The view of the stadium, city and the University from the SE stands is going to be flat out amazing! I was over in that corner (not in the stands) today and could just see the top of Bulger, The Poly-Sci building, Cascade Plaza, and the First National Bank tower downtown. They need to put a camera stand up there for the televised games! The stadium looks bigtime from the outdoor track, very, very nice! Overall, very, very impressed. A lot of happy faces there today, except for my daughter (2 years old)...she was upset when she found out that she couldn't get hot dogs from the concession stands yet and started crying... Ha!

Downtown Arena might not be such a good idea
Zipsrifle replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I've only been to WMU once for a football game, but that distance to downtown from Campus seems like it would be quite a hike for them. I don't see that in our case. We used to walk downtown quite often so I think our case is a little bit different. -
Akron #93 on the NY Times football countdown
Zipsrifle replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Such is the life of a MAC Coach. He wins, he leaves. He loses, we boot him out. Now, what I'm excited about is the coaching staff behind him. Those guys are lining up to be HC IMO. They wouldn't be doing that if they didn't think Akron had what it took to win with the new stadium bringing in recruits. -
"Pick Your Seats Day" - May 2009
Zipsrifle replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Are you implying a stadium expansion or that no one will care when we keep putting up 5-7 records every year?oh,oh here we go....The latter. If it wasn't for the stadium, I would be even less excited about this year than I was last year.....and that's not saying much. Then why even bother being on here? Sorry but I'm tired of this being the typical Akron fan...Lets get our fact straight! If I were a typical Akron fan I would wear OSU stuff to the games. I don't own any OSU stuff...... -
How about : "The Call Center"? or"Mumbai" ?Or we could go with the Roo theme and call it"The Outback"or"The Opera House" personally I like"Indecision Stadium"Or, for short we could just call it : "ICS"

I saw somewhere that 87% of people in Akron polled about the new stadium responded "OSU built a new stadium?....Wow!, I didn't know that. Yea, I'll pay $143 per ticket to watch them beat Lorain County Community College!". 9% of people responded that they thought the new stadium was actually a giant solar collector and was funded by the new Obama administration. 2% responded that they heard that Akron had a University but didn't know there was a football team. The remaining 2% are Zips season ticket holders and will be at all the games anyway.
